I don't scorn at My Little Pony in the way some do, in fact I love Friendship is Magic, thoroughly enjoyed the older episodes and was pleasantly surprised by most of the direct to video releases. But I found this really to be an abomination. The animation is horrid, not in the rushed sense but in that the colours are nauseatingly bright, the character designs look deflated and the eyes of the ponies are ridiculously over-sized. The music isn't much better, I do find the theme tune catchy and find the incidental music mostly in the TV shows and direct to video releases appealingly whimsical, but here the theme tune has lost its catchiness, the tempo is too drawn out for my tastes and some of the instruments are overly prominent. The rest of the music is immediately forgettable. The dialogue is incredibly corny and dull, the story is structurally thin and so sickly sweet you're in danger of getting a cavity, the characters are more annoying than endearing with nothing interesting about them and the voice work is far too cutesy often taking too much time with the dialogue. All in all, didn't like Once Upon a My Little Pony Time: So Many Ways to Play at all. 1/10 Bethany Cox

The rest of generation 3 was bad but this is the worst of generation 3. The animation is horrible, the plot makes no sense, the music is low buget and the whole thing is just awful.

This is probably the worst show in My Little Pony. It is worse than Tell Your Tale and Pony Life, which TYT is mediocre and PL isn't any better. The animation is very cheap and robotic, not to mention this was made in late 2009 and it feels like it was made in 2003-2004 instead. Hell, even other terrible shows that are made in the same year as this one has BETTER animation than this. The characters are still bland and have poor characterisation, the plot is awful, the voice acting is annoying and the whole show is terrible.
The episodes have a lot of filler into them, just like most of the G3 and G3.5 specials, there is little to no story whatsoever and the writing is childish, even for preschool standards. What pains the most is that the second episode, "Over Two Rainbows" has very incomplete animation. There is no sound effects or mouth movement whatsoever, instead they are stated closed for the entire episode. Fortunately, it had a remake at an unknown date with mouth movement and sound effects.
There is nothing redeeming about this show, besides the fix of "Over Two Rainbows", the show is nothing but a huge nightmare fuel for little girls. I wish I could rate this a 0/10.
