Some episodes of SNL are bad because a non-actor non-comedian tries their hand at it (see last week), but some are bad due to not living up to expectations.
Amy Schumer is a comedian, surely she should have a better episode than Jack Harlow double duty right? No, it turns out.
This episode failed Amy's potential due to incredibly lackluster writing. The opening skit had zero imagination, but I think the absolute worst was the jury member one. I'm not sure how it's possible to be so unfunny.
IMO a big problem with this season is that performers like Bowen Yang who started out on SNL very strong 2 years ago are as of late becoming very one-note with their jokes. But he's not alone there, practically every skit was "tell one joke...repeat" this whole episode, and frankly this whole season.
Another problem is that we get repetitive skits, and then also repetitive performances. Cecily Strong's Weekend Update bit was nearly 100% identical to another bit she did on the exact same topic last season. The message is fine but...you already did it a year ago. Replace "trucker" with "clown", same bit.
There are some truly talented comedians out there in the world. Maybe this show should do a reality tv series to find some of them. They couldn't do any worse than they have this season.
