Grab your magnifying glass, deerstalker hat, and pipe, fellow TV Fanatics, because a new Holmes-inspired show called Watson is coming to television screens everywhere as a midseason treat for the 2024-2025 broadcast schedule.
Interestingly, this will be the second CBS series to adapt the Sherlock stories, the first being Elementary, starring Jonny Lee Miller as Sherlock Holmes and Lucy Liu as Dr. Joan Watson.
The upcoming series, Watson, won't take place in the same universe, but as it shares similar elements, it'll be an amazing new show for audiences who miss the 2012 series that ended after seven seasons in 2019.
Some viewers might find the premise a touch different from the usual murder mystery plot in a good Sherlock Holmes story, but don't worry -- we're here to tell you everything we know so far!

Walker is one of the few shows on The CW from an earlier regime, back when the network catered to younger audiences.
Of course, the series skews older than The CW’s typical series, which probably explains why it survived when the network’s younger-skewing fare like Charmed, Dynasty, Legacies, and Nancy Drew all got the pink slip.
Walker, a reboot of the successful Walker, Texas Ranger, has managed to break through as a reboot because it has brought plenty of contemporary storylines to a format that worked well not so long ago.
As we delve into Walker Season 4, the series is at a tipping point because it will be judged more harshly than some other offerings, such as Wild Cards, which has performed admirably as a co-production.
Plenty of details have emerged about Walker Season 4, but we don’t want you to do all the digging for intel.

There’s a joke thrown around The CW offices: “We have more fans than viewers,” the network’s president of entertainment Brad Schwartz told TheWrap in a recent interview.
It’s a good line, one that alludes to the network’s dedicated fan bases that routinely make small-audience shows like “Nancy Drew” and “Gotham Knights” trend on Twitter. But it’s also a joke that nods to why the network is in the middle of such a massive transition following its 2022 acquisition by Nexstar. For Schwartz, The CW’s future is dependent on both retaining the passionate audience that’s been loyal to the brand over the past 20 years, and diversifying so it can compete with its network peers.
This fall, the network is expanding well past what audiences may think is the typical CW brand. The 2023-2024 season features everything from more mature dramas and a Tuesday night comedy...

As TV academy voters fill out their 2023 Emmy Awards nominations ballots, they will have to consider 163 shows for Best Drama Series. This is only down by eight compared to last year. After six years of not having to limit their choices in any categories, members can now not let their selections exceed the number of eventual nominations for a given award, which will be eight in this case.
2020 and 2022 champ “Succession” is in the hunt for its third win in this category and will potentially only have to fend off two of its seven rivals from last year. “Better Call Saul” and “Yellowjackets” returned in time to meet the eligibility window of June 1, 2022 to May 31, 2023, while “Euphoria,” “Severance,” “Squid Game,” and “Stranger Things” did not. The last remaining 2022 contender, “Ozark,” officially finished its four-season run last April. Also back in the running are former winners “The Handmaid’s Tale” (2017) and “The Crown” (2021).

The upcoming season finale of Gotham Knights will be the last-ever episode of The CW's superhero drama.
After Gotham Knights was canceled after one season, there were questions about whether the series was being shopped to other outlets.
Showrunners James Stoteraux and Chad Fiveash have now confirmed a push to find a new home, but a deal could not be reached.
As a result, fans will be forced to say goodbye to the show on June 27, when the final episode airs.

In a surprising move, CW has opted to bring back fan favourite series Superman & Lois for a slightly abbreviated fourth season. The network has been cancelling shows left and right, with them also pulling the plug on the Batman-universe-themed series Gotham Knights after only one season. This makes Superman & Lois the last remaining DC series on the network, with The Flash having recently aired its series finale.
According to Deadline, the renewal comes with a few caveats. For one, the budget has been slashed, meaning only ten episodes will be produced as opposed to the standard thirteen. The supporting cast is also expected to be reduced, perhaps moving some regulars down to recurring status or eliminating roles completely.

The CW’s answered a few lingering questions regarding their 2023-2024 primetime lineup, officially confirming Superman & Lois has been renewed for season four and All American: Homecoming earned a third season order. Both dramas could have gone either way as The CW trims down its roster following its acquisition by Nexstar.
While Superman & Lois and All American: Homecoming fans have reason to celebrate, the news isn’t so bright for Gotham Knights viewers. Gotham Knights did not escape the network’s chopping block and will not return for season two.

It’s final. There will be no second season for Walker Independence. Efforts to find a new home for the CBS Studios-produced Walker spinoff were unsuccessful following cancellation by the CW, sources have confirmed to Deadline.
Executive producer Jared Padalecki earlier told Deadline’s sister site TVLine, which first reported the show would not be moving elsewhere, that they were “aggressively looking for a place that Walker Independence could land,” but ultimately came up short.
Starring Matt Barr and Katherine McNamara, Walker Independence, whose pilot was written by Seamus Fahey based on a story by him and Anna Fricke, and directed by Larry Teng, was set in the late 1800s. It followed an affluent Bostonian named Abby Walker (McNamara), whose husband is murdered in front of her while on their trek out West. Neither of the new prequels to fan-favorite shows that The CW had in its 2022-2023 lineup will continue elsewhere. Walker Independence, which was axed on May 9, will not be picked up for a second season on a different network or streaming service despite attempts, according to TVLine. The series was a prequel to the Jared Padalecki-led Walker, which is one of only two CW shows to be renewed for the 2023-2024 season thus far. Following news breaking of Walker Independence‘s cancellation, Padalecki (an executive producer on both his show and the prequel) hadn’t ruled out that it was the end. “The book’s not closed Independence just yet,” he said to TV Insider. “It wasn’t canceled 100 percent of the platforms that wanna air it. It’s just not gonna air on CW next year. ...

Walker: Independence will not be getting a reprieve following its cancellation at The CW.
When the Walker spinoff got canceled in May, there were efforts to find a new home for the drama series.
TV Line reported Friday that producers had exhausted all avenues, and the show will not be returning in any capacity.
It's a tough blow for fans of the drama series, but at least we know that there was a push to get more episodes from the cast and creatives.
"We are aggressively looking for a place that Walker Independence can land," Padalecki told TV Line in May after the cancellation.
"I think it's a show that's needed. We absolutely are thrilled about the show, proud of the show, and we all feel like it belongs somewhere people can see it."

In Nexstar's attempt to revamp The CW, many current series will not survive into the 2023-24 season.
One of those canceled shows is Walker: Independence.
As a spinoff of Walker, one of the network's most-watched series, many thought it had a fighting shot at a pickup.
Series star, Katherine McNamara, is speaking out about the decision to end the show.
"I found out, you know, one of the showrunners and one of the producers called me, and you know, obviously it's not, it's not the call we want to get," McNamara on this week's The Wayne Ayers Podcast, which is set to launch Wednesday.

In her first proper interview since Walker Independence was cancelled (nearly a month ago), series lead Katherine McNamara notes, unsurprisingly, “It’s not the news we wanted to hear.”
McNamara had appeared on multiple podcasts that were released after the cancellation news broke, but they had all been taped prior. But as a guest on The Wayne Ayers Podcast (the full episode drops this Wednesday), she was able to actually post mortem it all, saying that “one of the showrunners and one of the producers called me” with the news, “and obviously it’s not the call we wanted to get.

Quite a bit remains up in the air about The CW’s lineup for the 2023-2024 season, and not just because of the writers’ strike. As of May 3, we still hadn’t known the fates of seven of its shows, and so for two weeks, we asked you to vote for which one you wanted to be renewed the most. Now, on May 26, three of its shows still have yet to be renewed or canceled. The CW has renewed All American and Walker, for Seasons 6 and 4, respectively. We knew that The Flash, Nancy Drew, and Riverdale would be airing their final seasons ahead of their premieres. Kung Fu, Walker Independence, and The Winchesters have been canceled. In the sixteen years since The CW launched as a broadcast channel, it has become known for its teen dramas like Riverdale, The Vampire Diaries, and One Tree Hill as well as being the home of the DC Comics Arrow-verse. For years, this channel has created dozens of original shows that not only paved the way for small screen superhero entertainment, but also cultivated diverse talent and voices. However, thanks to the network’s new owners Nexstar Media Group, this is all about to change.
Many of The CW’s original series like The Flash, Riverdale, and Nancy Drew are airing their final seasons this year while others like The Winchesters, Walker: Independence, and Kung Fu have already been canceled as the channel tries to shift its audience age demographic from 18-34 to the more traditional 18-49. With The CW’s fall primetime schedule, which was unveiled on Thursday morning during upfronts, we’re getting a true look at what the Nexstar era of The CW entails. The network’s new schedule only includes two returning scripted originals — Season 6 of “All American” and Season 4 of “Walker.” The network’s typical youth-focused programming has been replaced by seven more adult-oriented series that are new to the network, most of which are either Canadian or British productions. Say goodbye to DC superheroes and cute fashion dramas and hello to half-hour comedies about raising kids.

The CW as it existed for nearly 20 years is truly no longer. Last year, Nexstar purchased a majority stake in the network, which was a co-venture between Warner Bros. and CBS. In the age of streaming, however, co-owning an unprofitable network simply made less and less sense. Enter Nexstar, who has been cutting back heavily on the line-up of scripted programming in an attempt to bolster The CW's profits. To that end, two more shows have hit the chopping block in the form of "Supernatural" spin-off "The Winchesters" and "Kung-Fu." With that, the final nails in the coffin have essentially been put in place.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, "The Winchesters" will end with just one season in the books while "Kung Fu" is calling it quits after three seasons. They are the latest series to get the ax in recent months, along with the majority of the Arrowverse shows,...

The CW‘s original scripted series continues to dwindle as the network cancels its Supernatural offshoot, The Winchesters, and action drama Kung Fu. This is just the latest in a string of cuts, including Walker‘s prequel series Walker: Independence. We thank our partners at Warner Bros. and the casts and creative teams of Kung Fu and The Winchesters for all their hard work, creativity, and dedication.” (Credit: Skip Bolen/The CW) The Winchesters premiered this season and is a prequel to the former long-running favorite Supernatural, telling the story of Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean’s (Jensen Ackles) parents, John (Drake Rodger) and Mary (Meg Donnelly). The CW will not continue with Kung Fu, its reboot of the classic series, which has run for three seasons. It is the latest cancellation of an existing scripted series at the network, which is changing its business model under its new owners to focus on lower-cost scripted originals, primarily from Canada and the UK.
So far, only the CW’s strongest existing scripted series, All American and Walker, have been renewed for next season. The three least likely, The Winchesters, Kung Fu and Walker Independence, have been canceled. Remaining in limbo are Superman & Lois and All American: Homecoming, which are believed to have the best chance (however small it may be), followed by Gotham Knights.

“The Winchesters” has been canceled after one season at The CW, with the network also canceling the reboot of “Kung Fu” after three seasons.

The “Supernatural” prequel series “The Winchesters” followed demon hunters Sam and Dean’s parents, John (Drake Rodger) and Mary (Meg Donnelly), telling the story of how the couple met as teens and how they ultimately came together to save the entire world. The story is told from Dean’s (Jensen Ackles) perspective, marking the first return of Ackles’ character since the series finale in November of 2020.
In addition to Rodger and Donnelly, Bianca Kajlich, Demetria McKinney, and Nida Khurshid also starred.

Kung Fu and Supernatural prequel The Winchesters — both produced by Warner Bros. TV, one of The CW’s former owners — won’t return to the network in 2023-24. Kung Fu ran for three seasons, while The Winchesters ends after a single season. The cancellations follow that of first-year show Walker: Independence, which comes from the network’s other former owner, CBS Studios, on Tuesday.
“As we reimagine the new CW, we had to make some tough programming decisions,” the network said in a statement. “We thank our partners at Warner Bros. and the casts and creative teams of Kung Fu and The Winchesters for all their hard work, creativity and dedication.”

Walker: Independence was cancelled by The CW earlier this week, but there is hope the series could still return for season two. Jared Padalecki, an executive producer of the historical drama, says the series is aggressively being shopped to other outlets.
Starring Katherine McNamara, Matt Barr, Katie Findlay, Greg Hovanessian, Philemon Chambers, Justin Johnson Cortez, Lawrence Kao, and Gabriela Quezada, Walker: Independence follows Abby Walker (McNamara) as she settles in Independence, Texas after the death of her husband during the late 1800s. The first season ended with a cliffhanger that set up a significant new threat for season two.

The CW has been busy north of the border.
The network has picked up The Spencer Sisters, a Canadian drama starring Caroline in the City star Lea Thompson and Superman & Lois’ Stacey Farber, for its fall lineup.
It is the latest Canadian series that it has acquired, this time from eOne, as the Nexstar-owned company’s scripted strategy becomes a little clearer.
The Spencer Sisters, which aired its first 10-part earlier this year on CTV (see trailer below), follows a mother and daughter duo who team up to start a private detective agency. It pairs mystery novelist Victoria Spencer (Thompson) and her daughter Darby Spencer (Farber) who are mistaken as sisters as they tackle puzzling cases.

Could Walker: Independence fans actually manifest a better destiny for the just-canceled western? Despite the Walker prequel’s tremendously entertaining first season, which explored how the ancestors of Texas Ranger Cordell Walker (Jared Padalecki) first staked their claim on the Lone Star State back in the late 1800s, The CW opted to ax the period piece just yesterday. The news came shortly after the network announced that the mothership series would return for a 13-episode fourth season, as if to cushion the blow-to-come. Of course, the #WIndyFam and #WalkerFam took to Twitter following the decision and the locals were very restless. Seems the recent changes at The CW are not sitting well with some viewers. I was never a western fan but I love this show! I was always ready to watch the new episode when it came on! That says a lot with this show! Please, don’t let it end!
