Great partners in "Submarine" musician Alex Turner and director Richard Ayoade joined forces before the movie with this exquisite music video for Arctic Monkeys,
the dark and moody "Cornerstone" where Turner is left alone to showcase his acting abilities while performing the song and expressing his emotions in an apparently one
take video where he's all by himself carrying a tape recorder device and wearing headphones. Unusual yet interesting to watch, he reminded of those sports commentators
when they used such equipments to interview players on the field.
It's a quite unique performance, sometimes Turner appears close to the camera but he's mostly far away in the background and almost unrecognisable due to the long hair at the time. Without his usual performances carrying a guitar, this time the art and the feelings come through his hands, making gestures that follow things he mentions in the lyrics, or just using the mic from the recorder, or mostly his stone cold expressions that make some small variations. All very subtle, intriguing but always interesting to follow along with the great song as well. 9/10.
