Detective Sergeant Tom Brant (portrayed in this movie by Jason Statham) is a character in a series of novels by Ken Bruen. This movie is an adaptation of one of them.
The screenplay for this film was featured in the 2007 Blacklist, a list of the "most liked" unmade scripts of the year.
In this film, Statham & Evans play friends who owe each other favors. In the Fast & [the] Furious franchise, they play the Shaw brothers; Deckard & Owen.
In the original novel, each chapter is devoted solely to one character. Obviously, this had to change for the film adaptation.
