Little Nightmares II (2021) returns with an epic, beautifully twisted tale, one which compares perfectly with the first game, in my opinion, which in itself is a rare feat. Few sequels/prequels can compare with their masterpiece originals. As a huge fan of the first game, I was very easily swept up in the dark lure of this game, curious to find the connections and understand a bit more of the world and lore. These games are somehow both exquisite and grotesque, a perfect mix of stunningly beautiful and monstrously disgusting.
This installment is more of a prequel story to the first game, but it definitely keeps with the unique style previously established and the devs manage to crank up the story a couple of notches with surprising results. Absolutely love where they are going with this. The ending was a incredible trip, so unlike anything most of us could have expected. Brilliant and compelling. I can't wait to see where the next installments will take us.
The story focuses on Mono, a unique masked boy, with mysterious abilities and a mysterious, yet familiar ally. The world, characters, music, and art design are all spell-binding and spot on. These games are amazingly clever at offering a fascinating and terrifying story as well as compelling characters through its art, world, and overall atmospheric experience. It somehow manages to express emotion with a wordless subtlety, as the characters never speak or share dialogue. Somehow the world of Little Nightmares is rich, moving and eerily horrific and highly addictive. I have such high hopes for LN3!
