Featured review
Taste of Shirin (2008) is a 26-minute Iranian documentary directed by Hamideh Razavi. The movie shows us how Abbas Kiarostami made his unique movie, Shirin (2008).
Unlike many such documentary films, this movie really does show us the director telling his actors what he expected of them. We watch as they perform. We know that some of the footage will be used, and some won't. We understand that when Kiarostami presents us with Shirin, some of what we see in this documentary will be on the screen.
We watched this movie before we saw Shirin. That worked for us, because we knew what we could expect from the feature film. However, this movie is worth seeing whether you watch it before or after you watch Shirin.
Unfortunately, this is the first IMDb review of Taste of Shirin, which is a bonus feature of the Cinema Guild DVD of Shirin. The movie hasn't received five ratings yet. I enjoyed watching the film, and rated it 8.
