For today’s Gen-z kids, The Big Bang Theory and Friends might be some of the shows that they feel are iconic. But long back in the 80s, aired a show that changed the definition of sitcoms and grew a massive fan base across the US.
Yes, we are talking about NBC’s Cheers, which ran successfully from 1982 until its series finale in 1993. Critically acclaimed and loved by many during its original run, the series is one of the best sitcoms.
Cheers is hilarious, intelligent, fast-paced, heartfelt, peopled by unforgettable characters, and consistently good. The story revolves around a Boston bar, owned by Sam Malone (Ted Danson), a former relief pitcher, and has several other main characters, who either work in the bar or visit it regularly.
Decades later after its final run, let’s take a look at where some of the Cheers‘ major cast members are now!

Exclusive: Alexander Payne has lambasted a report from earlier this year that the script for his five-time Oscar-nominated film The Holdovers, which he directed from a script by David Hemingson, was plagiarized.
“It was the stupidest thing in the world,” Payne told us at the Sarajevo Film Festival when asked about the Variety report earlier this year, which dropped on the eve of the Oscar ceremony.
In the piece, Luca screenwriter Simon Stephenson accused The Holdovers script of being plagiarized from his 2013 Black List screenplay Frisco.
“It was irresponsible of Variety to report on that without having read the scripts and comparing them themselves,” claimed Payne. “Do you think The New York Times would have done that?”
He added: “I haven’t heard anything more about it and I wish him [Stephenson] well but there was just no merit to it. I mean, I didn’t even pay attention to...

By now, even the most hardcore fans of French cuisine and “Chocolat” star Juliette Binoche can agree that Justine Triet’s “Anatomy of a Fall” — rather than Tran Anh Hung’s “The Taste of Things” — was the one movie that could have given France its first Oscar win for best international feature in over 30 years, since Régis Wargnier’s “Indochine.”
Over the last three decades, a number of French movies have earned Oscar recognition, but none have been the official French Oscar submission. Michael Haneke’s “Amour” earned five Oscar noms in 2013 and even won the best foreign-language Oscar but it represented Austria. A year before, “The Artist,” a French-directed and produced silent movie, won five Oscars out of 10 nominations, including best picture. But the movie had come out in theaters in October, past the former Sept. 30 deadline (which has since then been extended in France) to submit films for...

Just like last year, critics are quibbling with the film awarded the Palme d’Or. Not that there’s active dislike for Justine Triet’s “Anatomy of a Fall,” but the Palme d’Or winner topped a different category in the survey IndieWire sent to critics from all over the world. This time, 60 reviewers and journalists participated, with five continents represented.
Nearly half of all 60 voted for Jonathan Glazer’s loose Martin Amis adaptation, Holocaust drama “The Zone of Interest”: 29 of the critics voted for it for Best Film. That’s a divergence with the Competition jury, which voted “Zone of Interest” the Grand Prix while “Anatomy of a Fall” took the Palme. The second title for Best Film chosen by the critics only received six votes, showing the intensity of enthusiasm for the Glazer film. That second title was Aki Kaurismaki’s “Fallen Leaves,” with “Anatomy of a Fall...

Editor’s note: This review was originally published at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival. IFC Films releases the film in select theaters on Friday, February 9, with expansion to follow.
There is something to be said for a simple dish made with the best ingredients by a trusted hand. Just as a perfect omelet made by a lover is more satisfying than an eight-hour feast laid on by a Prince, so it follows that a film like “The Pot-au-Feu” (later retitled for American audiences as “The Taste of Things”) works, not in spite of, but because it focuses on executing its basic premise with enrapturing attention to detail. This is a story about love and food, which it presents as the same thing.
Sight unseen, it was always a mouth-watering prospect: two delicious French actors – Juliette Binoche and Benoît Magimel – feeding each other in Tran Anh Hung’s adaptation of a 2014 graphic...

There’s food porn, which shows like Chef’s Table and Top Chef, not to mention last year’s horror hit movie The Menu, have turned into widely popular entertainment. And then there’s art house food porn, a subgenre that possibly dates back to Marco Ferreri’s 1973 satire La Grande Bouffe, and whose other examples include Babette’s Feast, The Cook, The Thief, His Wife & Her Lover, Tampopo, Chocolat and Like Water for Chocolate. The latter films tend to be made in a language other than English, and they’re less about chefs competing for Michelin stars, or glowing reviews from Pete Wells, than about food as a way of life.
Where else but France, then, as the setting for the latest, and certainly one of the most appetizing, art house food porn flicks to come along in a while? Tràn Anh Hùng’s The Pot-au-Feu (La Passion du Dodin-Bouffant) is...

If you thought the last “Last of Us” — also known as the HBO drama’s series premiere — reached a large audience, get a load of Sunday’s initial numbers.
Episode 2 of “The Last of Us” landed 5.7 million viewers in the U.S. on Sunday night, according to a combination of Nielsen data and HBO’s internal streaming metrics, up 1 million viewers — or 22 percent — from the previous weekend’s series debut. That growth (on a percentage basis) marks the largest Week 2 audience increase for an HBO original drama in the history of the network. Drama is a key word here, so IndieWire dug a little deeper into the archives for context.
In 2009, “Hung,” a comedy, experienced a greater Week 2 engorgement, rising nearly 41 percent from its own series premiere. “Hung” Episode 101 drew 3.7 million viewers; 102 soared to 5.2 million viewers. Piers Morgan has been blasted by critics for “misogynistic” remarks he expressed about Madonna, ahead of her 40th anniversary world tour.
On Wednesday’s instalment of the broadcaster’s TalkTV chat show Piers Morgan Uncensored (18 January), Morgan, 57, claimed that the “Vogue” singer, 64, should be “put out to pasture” while calling her a “hot mess”.
He went on to criticise the way in which the musician announced Madonna: The Celebration Tour, the recently announced world tour that will visit 35 cities across the globe.
The singer announced the news in a video starring famous friends including Diplo, Jack Black, Lil Wayne, and Amy Schumer with a nod to her 1991 film Truth or Dare.
Morgan criticised the artist for her clothing choices and creative expression, citing her age.
He accused Madonna of “the whole trying to be a sex kitten thing when you’re in your sixties”.

Lionsgate has picked up “One Ranger,” the action-thriller starring Thomas Jane and John Malkovich and will handle sales at AFM.
Written and directed by Jesse V. Johnson, the film stars Jane as a highly skilled Texas Ranger hired by British Intelligence to hunt down a terrorist who plans to mount a major attack in London. Malkovich’s role is being kept under wraps. Dean S. Jagger and Dominique Tipper also star.
Said Lauren Bixby, SVP of Co-productions and Acquisitions for Lionsgate: “One Ranger is non-stop action and it’s so much fun watching Thomas Jane being dropped into the center of London as a Texas Ranger, having to face the likes of John Malkovich and his MI6 team.”

Martin Scorsese has a filmography containing so many projects that took years, if not decades, to get to the screen. One of the longest to gestate and most difficult to make was 2002's "Gangs of New York," based on a book by Herbert Asbury that Scorsese first read back in 1970. That's three decades before the film even became a reality to make, and then there was the knock-down, drag-out battle behind the scenes with producer Harvey Weinstein about the cut of the picture, delaying the release of the film an entire year. The film was highly anticipated and received 10 Oscar nominations, but you would be hard pressed to find a ton of film fans who rank "Gangs of New York" among the director's best. If you're wondering what "The Idol" is selling, that's sex. That's what they're selling. At least, that's according to Jane Adam's character in the latest teaser for the upcoming HBO series from Grammy Award-winning artist Abel "The Weeknd" Tesfaye, "Euphoria" creator Sam Levinson, and Reza Fahim.
The six-episode drama is set to follow Lily-Rose Depp as a pop singer named Jocelyn that enters a romance with an enigmatic self-help guru played by Tesfaye who turns out to be a cult leader. And though we don't know much about the plot beyond that for what's being called "the sleaziest love story in all of Hollywood" or when we can finally expect the series premiere, a brand new teaser has just been released that officially unveils members of the cast for the first time.

Anne Heche's tragic death following a car crash earlier this month left many with questions.
Now, we have some clarity.
The death of the Men in Trees star at 53 has officially been ruled an accident.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner released a report on Wednesday confirming as much.
Heche's cause of death is listed as inhalation and thermal injuries from a fiery car crash earlier this month.
What's more, the report states that it was an accident.
It says that Heche suffered a "sternal fracture due to blunt trauma" from the car crash.
Sternal fractures typically occur after the chest strikes the steering wheel in motor vehicle collisions.
Heche was behind the wheel of her Mini Cooper when she crashed into a home in the Mar Vista area of Los Angeles.
The car and the home caught fire.
It was so severe that it took 59 firefighters over an hour to control.

On Friday, August 5, actress Anne Heche crashed her Mini Cooper into a private residence in Los Angeles’ Mar Vista neighborhood. The vehicle erupted in flames and destroyed the occupant’s rented home and a lifetime’s worth of possessions. Extricated from the wreck, Heche was taken to the Grossman Burn Center at West Hills Hospital, where she was initially stated to have suffered severe burns and was intubated but was thought to be in stable condition.
The days ahead featured rampant speculation about the events leading up to the crash and what its fallout would be: Was Heche drunk or on narcotics? (A blood test taken post-accident indicated the presence of cocaine.) Would she face felony DUI? (The LAPD was indeed investigating this with that charge in mind.) Less frequently discussed was Heche’s current condition: How severe were her injuries? Would she survive? What would the impact be on her two sons,...

Melvins will reinterpret their own catalog and showcase some new covers on the grunge giant’s massive new Five Legged Dog, a 36-track LP that doubles as the group’s first-ever acoustic album.
“I knew I wanted to do something ridiculously big. Thirty-six songs reimagined by us acoustically is certainly ridiculous but it works! The magic of the songs is still there regardless of it being acoustic,” Buzz Osbourne said in a statement of the pandemic-recorded album.
“Since we weren’t touring we had the time to do something of this size.
