In March 2018, director and producer Fernando Meirelles did a online call encouraging new young actors send their own self tape to his production company for casting process. The chosen actors went through workshops and rehearsals to reach their characters.
The fake weed in the series is work of art director Tulé Peak and the art crew. Made with different types of herbs with different scents, but only resembles real weed.
Lead actors Luís Navarro (Biriba) and Henrique Santana (Salim) were real life friends before the series.
According to general director Quico Meirelles, when the series was being produced, in 2015, he imagined that when the series would be premiered, in 2019, cannabis would already been legalized in Brazil. But what he saw was a twist in the opposite direction with the discussions paralyzed in the National Congress of Brazil.
