I hope you enjoy the sultry animal costumes worn by feminine characters. I also hope you enjoy anime where girls are constantly chasing after guys. Every year, a large amount of rubbish is produced, some of which fit the harem-ecchi category. Hensuki is as low-class as it gets.
The anime, which is an exact adaptation of the light book, is largely self-explanatory. The main character Keiki Kiryuu receives a love letter and underwear as the first episode begins. He quickly starts having affairs with Sayuki Tokihara, who says, "I want to be your pet!" With a premise like this, I can't help but wonder how high the author was when they wrote this. Indeed, this is the kind of wish-granting fairy tale you would expect to see in a trashy light novel.
Imagine Hensuki as a younger telenovela sans the violence and real romantic moments if you've ever watched one. But there are also mature themes like animal fetishes, jokes about undergarments, and characters who follow every harem cliché known to humankind. On the roster are:
Tokihara Sayuki: the quintessential school beauty with a masochistic demeanor and enormous breasts accessorized with a hairband.
Koga Yuika: A sadist who also happens to have gorgeous blonde hair and a cute grin.
Kiryuu Mizuhara: One of the show's more average girls, however she frequently finds it difficult to communicate her emotions. Consider her one of those naive sorts.
Nanjou Mao: The talkative girl who seems to have a fujoshi obsession.
Ootori Koharu: The quiet, reserved girl who has a perverse disposition despite her reserved nature.
Kiryuu Keiki, the main character, is a dull boy full of mischievous and wicked dreams. He gets into escapades with different girls in the first few episodes, but there's no character growth and bland chemistry. All of the female characters refer to Keiki as their "master" and desire to be his servants. A frantic attempt is being made to market the show's erotic appeal through this perverse master-slave relationship. The female actors are completely uninteresting, especially when they are around Keiki.
With its emphasis on sex jokes, animal fetishes, and bizarre relationships, the anime falls short of developing a genuine romance between Keiki and the female ensemble. The crude comedy exacerbates the characters' feelings, as Saiyuki feels a masochistic need to serve Keiki. The narrative is as uninteresting as Keiki himself, with hints of mystery but shoddy execution. The centerpiece of the show, which makes viewers want to turn off the TV, is who sent Keiki a pair of "panties".
Not even the quality of the animation or the style of artwork can rescue the show. The characters resemble cheap plastic toys that were obviously created to pique the interest of the viewer. With the quantity of boobs and ass, there is a lot of ecchi stuff. With the camera loving its time to play about with the artistic camera angles, all of the primary female characters are guilty. The voice acting is also lacking since nearly all of the characters have the same voice. That won't really matter because there are a lot of machoism and sultry groans.
Hensuki appeared to be the kind of anime that nobody was interested in seeing adapted, but for some reason it managed to get past the cracks and become one nevertheless. There is a ton of crude humor combined with a cast of pathetic individuals. I'm surprised that I made it through this entire show without cutting my eyes. This is similar to a hentai, but without the sexual component. For the love of God, avoid watching this with your family present. To make things easier to understand, just watch a hentai instead.
