Former Andi Mack star Peyton Elizabeth Lee has landed the title role in Doogie Kameāloha, M.D., a re-imagining of the popular ABC series Doogie Howser, M.D. The reboot of the Neil Patrick Harris-starring half-hour medical dramedy with a female lead comes from How I Met Your Mother and Fresh Off the Boat alumna Kourtney Kang and 20th Television, a part of Disney Television Studios.
Peyton, in a reimagining of the title role which made a star of Harris three decades ago, will play a 16-year-old wunderkind who is working as a doctor while her peers are still in high school.
Written by Kang and set in present-day Hawaii, Doogie Kameāloha, M.D. follows Lahela “Doogie” Kameāloha (Lee), a 16-year-old mixed-race girl who juggles a budding medical career and life as a teenager. The “Doogie Howser” reboot at Disney Plus, “Doogie Kameāloha, M.D.,” has cast Peyton Elizabeth Lee in the title role, Variety has learned.
The rebooted series will focus on Lahela “Doogie” Kameāloha (Lee), a mixed race 16-year-old girl who works as a doctor in Hawaii. The 10-episode half-hour comedy follows Kameāloha as she juggles a budding medical career and life as a teenager. Guiding Lahela (and also complicating things) is her family, including her spit-fire Irish mother who’s also her supervisor at the hospital, and her Hawaiian “Local Boy” father struggling to accept that his daughter is no longer his little girl.
The role keeps Lee in the Disney fold. She is best known for starring in the hit Disney Channel series “Andi Mack,” also in the title role. That show wrapped up in 2019 after three seasons. She also recently starred in the Disney Plus original movie “Secret Society of Second-Born Royals.

Many of the movies that have premiered on Disney in the last few months are would-be blockbusters that were made with theaters in mind and only went digital because of the pandemic. “Secret Society of Second-Born Royals” is obviously, glaringly, and insistently not one of those movies. Produced by the Disney Channel and seemingly budgeted at the same cost as an episode of “The Suite Life of Zack & Cody,” , but cheaper and at the same time.
Of course, it should be noted that Anna Mastro’s “Secret Society of Second-Born Royals” might skew a bit younger than any of those films — if your child can say its tongue-twister of a title without struggling, they’re already too old for it — but it’s hard to tell if it’s deliberately targeting a certain demographic or just too sloppy and unsophisticated to work on anyone who’s learned to tell...

Disney UK has unveiled its September content schedule, and the big centrepiece – as you may have guessed – is the premiere of Mulan, which will skip its UK cinema release after a controversial decision by Disney bosses, who previously hadn’t been very keen to put their upcoming big budget projects on the streaming service during 2020’s ongoing madness.
The unveiling of the highly anticipated live-action Mulan movie on Disney seems to be a first step towards bypassing cinemas for the foreseeable future, and it will be interesting to see how successful the gambit is with a price tag of £19.99 attached to the experience. The film certainly has a strong cast, with Liu Yifei as Mulan, Donnie Yen, Jason Scott Lee, Yoson An, Gong Li, and Jet Li in a supporting role.

After successfully bringing movie theater fare like Artemis Fowl and Hamilton to the smaller screen, Disney is going to attempt its most ambitious movie streaming experiment yet in September.

The full line-up of everything that’s coming to Disney Plus next month has been revealed. September will prove to be a hugely important one for the streaming service, too, thanks to the release of Mulan. Dropping on the first Friday of the month, the live-action remake of the classic animated movie is breaking the mold by going up on D alongside a limited theatrical release. As you probably know, though, you’ll have to fork out an additional $30 to watch it, as part of a new Premier Access level to the site.
Mulan is the most headline-grabbing addition to the service next month, then, but there’s plenty more besides that coming to D in September. Including a few classic Disney movies, a bunch of others inherited from Fox, various National Geographic documentaries and much more.

Despite only launching in November, Disney Plus has already brought in nearly 55 million subscribers, who’ve been enjoying all of their content hailing from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Star Wars franchise, Pixar, almost their entire back catalogue of animated films and much, much more.
However, it’s fair to say that when it comes to original material, Disney Plus hasn’t been bringing us very much. Sure, The Mandalorian was a major hit, but apart from that, none of their in-house projects have really stirred up any buzz. Unless, of course, you want to count Artemis Fowl, which has been making waves for all the wrong reasons.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like things will be improving on that front anytime soon, either. The Mouse House has just announced what’s headed our way in July and as you can see below, the list is lacking when it comes to buzzy original titles.
