NBCUniversal is set to undergo major changes in its C-suite and in its TV business, with the company reorganizing its executive ranks in connection with its plan to spin off most of its cable networks.
One big winner will be NBCUniversal Studio Group chairman and chief content officer Donna Langley, who will take on added responsibility as chairman of NBCUniversal Entertainment and Studios, according to a memo from Comcast president Mike Cavanagh to staff Wednesday morning.
The company also changed roles for other top leaders at the company. Matt Strauss, the head of Comcast’s direct-to-consumer (Dtc) business, was named chairman of NBCUniversal Media Group, overseeing such areas as sports, ad sales and distribution while continuing to run direct-to-consumer. And veteran communications chief Adam Miller will become COO of NBCUniversal.

Matt Strauss and Donna Langley have been named to top roles at the new NBCUniversal, a move that pairs a business executive well-versed in the world of streaming with a creative chief who has helped build and develop critical cinema franchises to help chart a new course for the venerable entertainment brand.
The two take the reins of the company as its corporate parent splits itself in two, keeping the NBC and Telemundo broadcast networks, the Bravo cable network, theme parks and movie operations in one entity and a passel of cable networks and digital properties in the other.
Strauss, who will become chairman of NBCUniversal Media Group, has been with Comcast for 20 years, and will oversee the company’s Peacock streaming business, as well NBC Sports, ad sales, distribution, research and affiliate relations. Many of these were functions supervised by Mark Lazarus, who has been named CEO of a...

Now that Donald Trump has been re-elected to a second (and perhaps final) term, some Americans are getting ready to Resist once again. They will lobby their representatives to push back on Trump’s excesses. They will attend protests and wave signs. They will volunteer for Democratic causes. They will passionately call out the president’s latest norm-breaking when talking with friends and family — as well as argue with strangers on social media.

Was Dwayne Johnson a failed football player? ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Dwayne Johnson didn’t just become Hollywood’s highest-paid actor. No, he had a rocky start—literally. Before Fast & Furious and Jumanji, he tried out for the NFL, later suiting for the Miami Hurricanes. Then, the unthinkable happened. Johnson went undrafted.
That crushing defeat? Total game-changer. “If it weren’t for this dream that I was so focused on… not playing in the NFL wound up being the best thing that ever happened to me,” Johnson told the Pivot Podcast. Instead of sulking, he channeled his “what now?” energy into something bigger—enter WWE.
With wrestling in his blood—his dad, Rocky “Soul Man” Johnson, and his granddad, Peter Maivia, were legends—The Rock didn’t just step into the ring. He owned it. Charismatic, confident, and a tad cheeky, he turned wrestling into an art form. Who knew...

Sunday Am Writethru: Refresh for more updates, chart and analysis…. “Treat them the same way you treat us! How dare you?!” are some of the screams I’ve been getting from traditional major studios when it comes to the chilly box office performance of the Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans $200M Christmas action movie Red One. (“No! It’s $250M!” exclaims an Amazon vet with knowledge). And at an opening of $34M, after a $10.9M Friday, and even a Saturday family lift of $13.2M, we can’t ignore the fact that we’ve seen better from The Rock, as far as his solo non-Fast & Furious projects go. EntTelligence says that only 2.4M people watched Red One this weekend — which ain’t much.

The following post contains heavy spoilers for season 6 of "Cobra Kai."
"Cobra Kai" has come a long way. The legacy sequel to "The Karate Kid" (one of the best family movies of all time) started out as a relatively inconspicuous show created by the duo behind the "Harold & Kumar" movies and the writer of "Hut Tub Time Machine" -- one that dared to ask what would happen if the joke from "How I Met Your Mother" about Johnny Lawrence being the true protagonist of "The Karate Kid" was actually true. The fact that "Cobra Kai" premiered on the now-defunct YouTube Red streaming platform only further illustrated just how little anyone expected from the show (much less that they thought it would become as popular and long-running as it has).
The series started out rather grounded, reversing roles and plots of the original "Karate Kid" movie while introducing clever twists and...

There was a time when Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson could do no wrong. Having conquered the world of pro wrestling, he quickly established himself as a Hollywood A-Lister and was widely credited with saving the struggling Fast & Furious franchise.
Few of Johnson's movies have been critical darlings, but the vast majority have been crowd-pleasing box office hits. In 2022, Black Adam was meant to launch a new Dceu revolving around the actor; instead, it flopped, and things haven't gone particularly well for him since.
His missteps range from the XFL's struggles to Young Rock's cancellation and the way he was rejected by many WWE fans this year.
The Rock is still incredibly successful, of course, and plans to take on his first true serious role with A24's The Smashing Machine. However, his latest big budget effort, Red One, has proven to be another critical and commercial let-down.

Movies made by committee, where confused tones and tangents compete for dominance, at least offer some compelling friction in their chaos. If Dominic Toretto is the first person who comes to your mind after hearing the word “family”, then either you’ve spent too much time on the internet or you’re simply a fan of the Fast & Furious series. Either way, you’ll forget Vin Diesel’s obsession with family with this one scene in Yuki Tabata’s Black Clover.

Tabata’s storytelling style might be a bit simplistic, but he makes great use of his characters. They shine both individually and as members of their respective squads. While other squads can get overly competitive at times, the members of Black Bull treat each other like family. It’s great to see them standing up for each other.

Dwayne Johnson was headlining one family movie after another following the launch of his acting career with 2002’s “The Scorpion King.” He was successful, but he yearned for more. A lot more. Johnson told his agents that he wanted to be bigger than Will Smith. When they expressed skepticism, he got rid of them.
As reported in Johnson’s new GQ cover story: “He surveyed the landscape, noted who was at the top of it. And he went to his agents and said, despite whatever recent setbacks he’d experienced, he had an idea, or simply an ambition: He wanted to have the career of George Clooney or Will Smith. But bigger, perhaps, or better. When his agents seemed skeptical of this plan, he found new agents.”
“That was the idea back then,” Johnson now told GQ looking back at his plan, admitting that he did think “I could be bigger” than Clooney and Smith.

Dwayne Johnson’s First Dream Before Becoming a WWE Icon Would’ve Drastically Changed His Entire Life
Dwayne Johnson is most popularly known as the professional wrestler who became a movie star, but he could have had a different career had he become successful in achieving his first dream. It’s difficult to imagine seeing him in a different type of sport other than wrestling, but the Fast & Furious star actually ventured once into a football career.

His stint in the said sport was short-lived, but it was a significant part of his younger self that served as an inspiration in pursuing his own minor league. So, why did Johnson give up playing football?

The face of fast cars, thrilling chases, and best family speeches that hit home, Vin Diesel has it all. Largely in thanks to Fast & Furious, Diesel became synonymous to action-packed cinema, “ride or die” philosophy, and heart-racing stunts. With over two decades in the Hollywood industry, Diesel has built a reputation of a bankable star who has drawn massive audiences worldwide. Although his debut in the industry was marked by struggles, the A-list star has made a household name for himself.
When you think of Diesel, it’s hard not to picture him without a sleek muscle car, cruising down the streets in his usual don’t-mess-with-me stare. But here’s the real question, Is Vin Diesel’s magic limited to the Fast & Furious lanes? No doubt he has earned massive box office success after playing the iconic role of Dominic Toretto in Fast & Furious franchise, but...

Dwayne Johnson explains why he declined Vin Diesel’s pleas to return to the ‘Fast & Furious franchise (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Dwayne Johnson isn’t budging—he’s not returning to Fast & Furious, no matter how hard Vin Diesel pleads. Despite Diesel’s November Instagram post begging him to return for the Fast 10 finale, Johnson made it clear: no chance. In private, he told Diesel that he was done with the franchise months earlier. So, when Diesel went public with his appeal, Johnson was caught off guard.
In that post, Diesel called Johnson “my little brother” and begged him to show up. “The world awaits the finale of Fast 10,” Diesel wrote, adding, “You must show up.” But Johnson wasn’t having any of it. He slammed the plea as manipulation, especially for bringing up his kids and Paul Walker’s death. “Leave them out of it,” he said, making...

Before he made us believe a man could fly and before he made arguably the quintessential '80s buddy cop movie, Richard Donner directed a terrific supernatural horror film that feels like a predecessor of the "Final Destination" franchise: "The Omen." One of the best '70s horror movies, "The Omen" is a movie about an adopted child, Damien, who may be the prophesied antichrist, whose very existence means the coming of the end of the world and utter ruin for humanity.
Starring Gregory Peck, the original 1976 film was a huge hit despite mixed reviews and even got nominated for two Oscars: Best Original Score and Best Original Song (it won Best Original Score for composer Jerry Goldsmith).
Interestingly enough, Richard Donner initially didn't want to treat this as a horror movie. Instead, he wanted to leave the supernatural aspects of the story open to interpretation, with the audience unsure...

It wasn't all that long ago that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson was one of the few A-list stars in the world that seemingly everyone liked. Right alongside a small list that includes people such as Tom Hanks, Johnson had gone from pro wrestler to biggest movie star in the world and developed a wild amount of good will with the pop culture consuming public along the way (so much so that he was even teasing a possible run for President of the United States at one point).
Things have changed a bit over the past couple of years, however. Johnson hasn't had an outright hit movie in theaters since the pandemic began, with "Jungle Cruise" and "DC League of Super-Pets" disappointing theatrically. More notably, his DC superhero movie "Black Adam" failed to start a new franchise, even though Johnson seemed to be gunning to make himself the center of the DC Universe.

When it comes to Christmas movies, "sexy" isn't typically the first, or probably even second, descriptor to come to mind. Maybe "charming" or "adventurous" or "festive" would be the words to describe your average holiday flick. Perhaps even "funny." But this year, Netflix is turning the heat all the way up with two of its new original Christmas romantic comedies.
Chad Michael Murray and Dustin Milligan are spreading holiday cheer in their movies The Merry Gentlemen and Hot Frosty. The titles of both suggest a certain level of hotness akin to a steaming cup of cocoa. Beyond the Christmas treats, Netflix also offers an extra helping of an action-packed film franchise and a period drama series that are both plenty alluring.
Want to fill your watch list with some of the hottest movies and shows this month? There's plenty of eye candy to go around in November, from Christmas and beyond!

We recently got confirmation that a Scary Movie reboot (though it might end up being more of a "requel") is moving forward with the original creative team of Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans and Keenen Ivory Wayans back on board.
Fans were hopeful that stars Anna Faris and Regina Hall - who played Cindy Campbell and her best pal Brenda Meeks in the first four movies - would reprise their roles, and both actresses have now discussed their potential returns.
It sounds like Faris and Hall would be interested in returning to the horror parody franchise if given the opportunity.

In 1982, Prince urged everyone to “Party like it’s 1999.” Aiming to party somewhere roughly in the middle of that timespan is “Weekend in Taipei,” a throwback in the sense that it recalls the unpretentious — if also unmemorable — pleasures of many boilerplate action movies released in the peak Vcr era. Luc Besson is both a co-writer and producer on this French-Taiwanese enterprise, which provides George Huang his first directorial feature in some time, 30 years after his very different debut, “Swimming With Sharks.”
With “Fast & Furious” alumni Luke Evans and Sung Kang as the male leads, this tale of a DEA agent venturing East to battle a crime syndicate raises expectations of flashy chase and fight scenes. Those are duly met, even if the script Huang and Besson have devised is flimsy stuff. These 100 minutes offer the kind of energetic, no-brainer fun you may remember little of the morning after — but...

Was The Rock not initially cast in Fast & Furious? (Photo Credit – Facebook)
Did you ever wonder what Fast & Furious might’ve looked like without The Rock? Neither did we… until Vin Diesel dropped this wild nugget during a 2017 Facebook Q&a. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson wasn’t always meant to be the bulldozer of justice, Luke Hobbs. Nope, the role was written for Tommy Lee Jones! Diesel spilled the tea: “There was a girl named Jen (maybe Jan?) Kelly who said, ‘I would love to see you guys work together on-screen.’ So, we initially gave a role written for Tommy Lee Jones, but we gave it to Dwayne, and he shined in it.”
So, let’s rewind. Tommy Lee Jones, the action movie vet known for The Fugitive and Under Siege, was supposed to be the big bad in the Fast & Furious universe. Instead, they handed that part over to Johnson,...

Here’s the truth about why Dwayne Johnson isn’t in the MCU (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Marvel? It’s a match so obvious, but it’s almost surprising that it hasn’t happened. With Marvel taking Hollywood by storm and Johnson towering over the industry literally and figuratively, you’d think they’d cross paths. But here we are, wondering why the two most significant entertainment forces never joined. And yes, there are some solid reasons why.
First, let’s talk allegiance. While Marvel has the Avengers, Johnson has long aligned with their comic rival, DC. In 2014, he was cast as Black Adam, a major (and criminal) antihero in DC’s Shazam! Series. Fans expected him to show up alongside Shazam in 2019, but Johnson’s charisma needed a solo spotlight. By 2017, DC had confirmed Black Adam was getting his film. This Dceu role made it...

The closer one looks at "Bones," the more one begins to wonder if everything really does come back to Hart Hanson's long-lived rom-com/gnarly crime procedural. From multiple "Breaking Bad" actors showing up as guest stars to Kevin Yagher, the legendary creature designer who co-wrote Tim Burton's "Sleepy Hollow," playing a key creative role behind-the-scenes on the series with his brother Chris Yagher, it seems as though our plane of existence is merely a tangled web with "Bones" at the center. Were the show to somehow be lost to the ravages of time like so much older media has been, it's possible our reality as we know it would collapse. Clearly, we should stop playing Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon and start playing Six Degrees of Bones instead.

Vin Diesel stands outside his Hollywood Hills home before selling it after 16 years (Photo Credit – YouTube)
Vin Diesel is officially shifting gears in his real estate game. After 16 years of calling his Hollywood Hills home his own, the Fast & Furious star has decided to sell the two-bedroom, three-bathroom pad for $1.4 million. Trulia broke the news, and this wasn’t his first attempt. In 2013, he listed the property for $1.3 million; before that, he rented it out for a solid $5,800 a month. But now, with three kids and a growing family, Diesel is ready to rev up to the next chapter—away from this bachelor pad.
Bought in 2000 for just $562,500, this 1957-built midcentury gem wasn’t precisely a mansion but had all the charm of an old-school LA hideaway. Tucked behind a gated brick courtyard, the house boasted a cozy yet contemporary vibe with lush landscaping and a pavilion area perfect...

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson at one point earned the unofficial designation of "franchise Viagra." This is because every franchise he joined seemed to benefit greatly from his presence. "Fast Five" being a big turning point for the "Fast & Furious" franchise is the classic example. But for the past couple of years, the wrestler-turned-actor has struggled a bit to deliver the goods like he used to at the box office. So, can his new, original holiday movie "Red One" get things back on track? Or is this another disaster in the making? Is it possible that the answer is both?
Currently, the big-budget action/holiday flick is on track to take in between $25 and $30 million domestically on opening weekend, per early tracking (via Deadline). That's on the optimistic side of things. The folks at Box Office Theory currently have the film taking in as little as $18 million in its debut,...

Nicolas Cage discusses his decision to pass on a key role in ‘The Lord of the Rings.’ (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Did you know Nicolas Cage was this close to being Aragorn in The Lord of the Rings? But he turned it down. Yup. The same guy who took on National Treasure and Ghost Rider could’ve been slinging a sword in Middle-earth. And the kicker? He’s got no regrets. Zero. Zilch. Nada. “I don’t have any regrets,” he asserted. Classic Cage.
So, what happened? Well, it turns out that life got in the way. Cage had “different things” going on—and spending three years in New Zealand wasn’t something he wanted. He didn’t want to leave his family for that long.
Still, Cage didn’t mope about what could’ve been. “I can watch them. I can enjoy them as an audience member,” he said of The Lord of the Rings.

Vanderpump Rules cast celebrating at a bar, capturing the show’s mix of drama and friendship. (Photo Credit – Netflix)
Vanderpump Rules began in 2013 as a spin-off reality series to The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, focusing on Lisa Vanderpump’s Hollywood restaurant, Sur. The show featured the personal and professional lives of servers, bartenders, and aspiring actors, blending their work dynamics with the drama of their relationships, which quickly drew in a dedicated fanbase. The show skyrocketed to global fame last season with the explosive #Scandoval drama. While Ariana Madix turned heartbreak into paydays with endorsements, she, Lisa, and Lala Kent even attended the White House Correspondents Dinner last year, resulting in global attention on the series.
The younger viewers of Vanderpump Rules resonated with the show by watching Jax Taylor, Tom Sandoval, Katie Maloney, Scheana Shay, Stassi Schroeder, and others navigate their messy, less-than-chic lives in LA. Although the...

Tom Holland as Spider-Man in action with New York City skyline backdrop (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Tom Holland’s Spider-Man has carved a unique path in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, marked by remarkable success and puzzling moments. His journey began with a standalone introduction in Captain America: Civil War, leading to a successful solo film, Spider-Man: Homecoming. While Holland’s Spider-Man popularity soared further with MCU’s top-grossing film, Spider-Man: No Way Home, his storyline did not emerge without inconsistencies and unresolved elements.

“Red One” comes out of nowhere as a high-octane holiday story that breaks the mold of typical Christmas movies. Action, comedy, and magic all come together in this genre-bending show reimagining Santa’s world as a high-tech military operation. The movie is about a complicated rescue attempt to find and free Santa Claus, who is being held captive. The normally peaceful North Pole is turned into a Christmas-themed blockbuster battleground.
The movie has many big names, like Dwayne Johnson as Santa’s loyal bodyguard Callum and Chris Evans as Jack, a cynical independent tracker. J.K. Simmons plays Santa Claus in a strong, non-traditional way, choosing a fitness-focused look over the traditional fat belly.
Jake Kasdan, who directed the reboot of the Jumanji series, brings his skill at making action comedies that people will enjoy. The script was written by Fast & Furious veteran Chris Morgan, who promises a story with much action.

It’s never a harbinger of good tidings when the critics’ embargo for your $250-million Christmas franchise launcher is 9 p.m. Pt on Election Day. But here we are.
Amazon MGM Studios’ bid at a Marvel-level action-comedy spectacle, the ho-ho-horrible “Red One” is a blockbuster-sized cinematic lump of coal, driven as if by narcotized reindeer on a sleigh of hideous CGI and charmless stars with only dancing dollar-shaped sugar plums on the mind. Directed by “Jumanji” reboot filmmaker Jake Kasdan and written by longtime “Fast & Furious” scribe Chris Morgan, here is a level-four naughty-lister that will make you wish Christmas were canceled altogether, a cynical, depressing holiday adventure about the abduction of a swoled-up Santa Claus from the North Pole.

Dwayne Johnson’s $250 million Yuletide action-fantasy-comedy, Red One, is not to be confused with his 2021 action-comedy crime caper, Red Notice. The new film is getting a wide theatrical release, for starters, while the earlier one went straight to Netflix, topped the most-streamed chart for a minute and then was never spoken of again — almost as if it never existed.
The pop-cultural footprint of Jake Kasdan’s laborious holiday entry, while it insistently screams “Next-Gen Christmas Classic!” at you, seems unlikely to be much different. Amazon MGM Studios is being cagey about dates, but the movie seems destined to feed the hungry maw of another streaming service, Prime Video, real soon. This is a high-concept, CG-saturated bore that lacks heart and infectious humor, even if it huffs and puffs its way to a little poignancy in the end.

We’ve seen Keanu Reeves dodge bullets as Neo and John Wick, but his smartest “bullet time” came with Speed 2. If you’re thinking, Keanu Reeves wasn’t in the Speed sequel, then you’ve found the point.
Like Keanu Reeves, Speed screenwriter Graham Yost had nothing to do with the 1997 sequel, Cruise Control. While Sandra Bullock returned as Annie Porter, Reeves apparently hated the script, which wasn’t written by Yost, who has maintained that he wasn’t part of the process (despite working on ideas that would ultimately never be written). The movie would open at #1 but still quickly fall below 50 mph, taking in under $50 million domestically on a reported $160 million budget.
Recalling that troubling release for Bullock and the moment of relief for Reeves and himself, Yost (who probably doesn’t get enough credit for helping change the ‘90s action game) said, “That’s hard to shake off for Sandra Bullock.

Here’s what made The Rock a total box office king (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson didn’t just step into Hollywood—he slammed in, blending WWE flair with movie star charisma. From The Mummy Returns to Fast & Furious, he brought his wrestling roots, and fans went wild every time he dropped those iconic moves, reminding everyone that The People’s Champ never forgets his roots.
One of Johnson’s earliest crossovers from the ring to the screen happened in Star Trek: Voyager. In the sixth season’s episode “Tsunkatse,” he appeared as the Pendari Champion, squaring off against Seven of Nine. And what did he do? He casually dropped his signature move, Rock Bottom, slamming his opponent to the mat with a grin, saying, “Yes, I’m that guy.”

One of the highest-paid actors in Hollywood, Dwayne Johnson, aka The Rock, has transformed from a professional wrestler into one of the biggest stars. After gaining fame in the WWE, he made his acting debut in The Mummy Returns, which quickly led to leading roles in major blockbusters. He starred in films like The Scorpion King, the Fast & Furious franchise, and Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, further solidifying his status as a bankable action star. Dwayne Johnson on John Cena’s Fast & Furious replacement: “idiot with too much confidence.” (Photo Credit – Koimoi)
Hollywood wouldn’t be the same without its iconic celebrity feuds, which have long fueled public fascination and media headlines. The list of rivalries is endless, from Taylor Swift and Kanye West to Nicki Minaj and Cardi B. One of the most talked-about feuds was between Dwayne Johnson and John Cena, which began during their time in WWE. The wrestlers-turned-actors rivalry started in 2011 when Cena criticized The Rock for leaving WWE to pursue a Hollywood career. While the two have had high-profile WrestleMania matches, where they exchanged personal jabs, they eventually reconciled and put their differences aside.
Johnson and Cena have both retired from the WWE and debuted their acting careers. Both have worked in the DC Universe and Fast & Furious franchise. Although they have moved past their feuds, it wasn...

Johnson and Cena have both retired from the WWE and debuted their acting careers. Both have worked in the DC Universe and Fast & Furious franchise. Although they have moved past their feuds, it wasn...

A topical historical drama depicting the creation of IVF; a paranoid thriller series starring Colman Domingo; a bracingly original crime musical, and awards contender, from Jacques Audiard; the second part of the final season of Cobra Kai; and a reverential big-screen adaptation of a Pulitzer-winning August Wilson play are some of the highlights among the new films and series hitting Netflix in November.
On Nov. 7, action and mystery drama Outer Banks returns to Netflix. The first half of season four ended with several cliff-hangers for the Pogues, many of which should be resolved, to some degree, in the second half of the season. Over on Kildare Island, Rudy Pankow’s JJ probably gets the biggest bomb dropped on him when he learns that he’s not the son of his alcoholic and abusive father, Luke. The cast have promised “craziness” so expect some more jaw-dropping revelations.

Cillian Murphy and Jason Statham are prominent Hollywood actors, each bringing a distinct presence to the screen. Although both actors command a strong fan following and deliver box-office hits globally, the competition began before their stardom.
Murphy gained his household name after starring in Peaky Blinders; however, he wasn’t the first choice to play the role of Tommy Shelby. Amazon MGM Studios’ big $200M Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans Santa Claus caper movie, Red One, landed on tracking recently and it’s eyeing a $36M opening in U.S./Canada with a chance for upside. The Jake Kasdan directed reteam with Johnson post their Jumanji movies opens on Nov. 15.
Red One was originally green lit for streaming, however, Amazon MGM Studios pivoted to theatrical after the movie tested well. Essentially when it comes to an Amazon MGM Studios deciding to go theatrical on a movie that was originally conceived for streaming, it boils down to whether the studio can cover their domestic P&a costs at the box office. Hence, there’s that confidence with Red One. Warner Bros. has overseas on the Seven Bucks production reteam per their offshore deal with Amazon MGM Studios.
Positive signs are that Red One is not just trending with guys, but Johnson’s female followers as well.
