NBCUniversal is set to undergo major changes in its C-suite and in its TV business, with the company reorganizing its executive ranks in connection with its plan to spin off most of its cable networks.

One big winner will be NBCUniversal Studio Group chairman and chief content officer Donna Langley, who will take on added responsibility as chairman of NBCUniversal Entertainment and Studios, according to a memo from Comcast president Mike Cavanagh to staff Wednesday morning.

The company also changed roles for other top leaders at the company. Matt Strauss, the head of Comcast’s direct-to-consumer (Dtc) business, was named chairman of NBCUniversal Media Group, overseeing such areas as sports, ad sales and distribution while continuing to run direct-to-consumer. And veteran communications chief Adam Miller will become COO of NBCUniversal.

Matt Strauss and Donna Langley have been named to top roles at the new NBCUniversal, a move that pairs a business executive well-versed in the world of streaming with a creative chief who has helped build and develop critical cinema franchises to help chart a new course for the venerable entertainment brand.

The two take the reins of the company as its corporate parent splits itself in two, keeping the NBC and Telemundo broadcast networks, the Bravo cable network, theme parks and movie operations in one entity and a passel of cable networks and digital properties in the other.

It wasn't all that long ago that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson was one of the few A-list stars in the world that seemingly everyone liked. Chad Michael Murray and Dustin Milligan are spreading holiday cheer in their movies The Merry Gentlemen and Hot Frosty. The titles of both suggest a certain level of hotness akin to a steaming cup of cocoa. Beyond the Christmas treats, Netflix also offers an extra helping of an action-packed film franchise and a period drama series that are both plenty alluring.

“Red One” comes out of nowhere as a high-octane holiday story that breaks the mold of typical Christmas movies. Action, comedy, and magic all come together in this genre-bending show reimagining Santa’s world as a high-tech military operation. The movie is about a complicated rescue attempt to find and free Santa Claus, who is being held captive. The normally peaceful North Pole is turned into a Christmas-themed blockbuster battleground.

The movie has many big names, like Dwayne Johnson as Santa’s loyal bodyguard Callum and Chris Evans as Jack, a cynical independent tracker. J.K. Simmons plays Santa Claus in a strong, non-traditional way, choosing a fitness-focused look over the traditional fat belly.

Jake Kasdan, who directed the reboot of the Jumanji series, brings his skill at making action comedies that people will enjoy. The script was written by Fast & Furious veteran Chris Morgan, who promises a story with much action.

Dwayne Johnson’s $250 million Yuletide action-fantasy-comedy, Red One, is not to be confused with his 2021 action-comedy crime caper, Red Notice. The new film is getting a wide theatrical release, for starters, while the earlier one went straight to Netflix, topped the most-streamed chart for a minute and then was never spoken of again — almost as if it never existed.

The pop-cultural footprint of Jake Kasdan’s laborious holiday entry, while it insistently screams “Next-Gen Christmas Classic!” at you, seems unlikely to be much different. Amazon MGM Studios is being cagey about dates, but the movie seems destined to feed the hungry maw of another streaming service, Prime Video, real soon. This is a high-concept, CG-saturated bore that lacks heart and infectious humor, even if it huffs and puffs its way to a little poignancy in the end.

Netflix’s slate will adjust for post-Halloween viewing as the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays approach. The streamer’s catalog will begin to bulk up on Christmas flicks mid-month as well as round out its rotation of fall favorites.

Those in the mood for a romantic comedy can find Just Go With It, Sixteen Candles and Maid in Manhattan available Nov. 1 on the streamer. More serious films like A24’s The Whale and Whiplash starring Miles Teller will also land on Netflix at the beginning of the month.

The Fast and the Furious film franchise will arrive on Netflix midway through the month on Nov. 12. The Scary Movie franchise has officially been resurrected... for better or worse!

Following April's CinemaCon announcement that a reboot of the horror parody series was in development, Deadline is reporting that a sixth movie is moving forward with the original creative team of Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans and Keenen Ivory Wayans back on board.

Keenen Ivory wrote and directed the first two films, while Marlon and Shawn contributed to the scripts and also starred. It's unknown if the brothers will assume the same roles this time.

Fans are hopeful that Anna Faris and Regina Hall will return to lead this new movie, but there's no word on casting just yet.

Rick Alvarez has also been enlisted as a writer and producer along with Fast & Furious and Sonic the Hedgehog's Neal H. Moritz.

Amazon MGM Studios’ big $200M Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans Santa Claus caper movie, Red One, landed on tracking recently and it’s eyeing a $36M opening in U.S./Canada with a chance for upside. The Jake Kasdan directed reteam with Johnson post their Jumanji movies opens on Nov. 15.

Red One was originally green lit for streaming, however, Amazon MGM Studios pivoted to theatrical after the movie tested well. Essentially when it comes to an Amazon MGM Studios deciding to go theatrical on a movie that was originally conceived for streaming, it boils down to whether the studio can cover their domestic P&a costs at the box office. Hence, there’s that confidence with Red One. Warner Bros. has overseas on the Seven Bucks production reteam per their offshore deal with Amazon MGM Studios.

Positive signs are that Red One is not just trending with guys, but Johnson’s female followers as well.
