Featured review
This is a fairly well made piece for what it is, a mini series for TV, but it's just not the real thing. The warm colours and smooth lights of the Prague locations, the perfectly cleaned & ironed costumes and spotless modern makeups have nothing to do with post-war Paris and the spirit of the original novels. And most of all, the creators make an odd attempt at adding more sexual aura to the main character, and at the same time, they completely miss the paternal authority of the original. No, Inspector Maigret is just not a thin gigolo.
My favourite Maigret will always be Michael Gambon in the Granada series. It had all the drama, darkness, irony and wicked mind games of the original, all marinated in cigarette smoke and Pernod.
This one's too clean for my taste.
