Marvel Studios recently took Mahershala Ali’s long-delayed “Blade” movie off its release calendar, but studio president Kevin Feige is telling fans not to worry about whether or not the iconic vampire hunter will find his way into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Blade is coming, he promises.
“We are committed to Blade,” Feige told Omelete (via IGN) during the D23 Brazil 2024 event. “We love the character. We love Mahershala’s take on him. And rest assured: whenever we change direction with a project, or are still figuring out how it fits into our schedule, we let the audience know. You’re all up to date on what’s happening. But I can tell you that the character will indeed make it to the MCU.”
Marvel originally announced its “Blade” movie with Ali in July 2019, but development has been rocky as several writers and directors have come and gone over the years.

If you’ve been keeping up with Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, you know it’s one wild and bumpy ride. For those of us invested in the big screen’s only officially Spidey-adjacent anti-hero, Eddie Brock, the past few years have brought mixed emotions. Sony owns the rights to a massive Spider-Man gallery of characters. Still, they can’t exactly bring Spider-Man himself into their solo adventures, so we’ve been watching them piece together a somewhat awkward “Sony-Verse” since 2018, all while the MCU does its own thing with Peter Parker.

The Mahershala Ali film that Disney recently put on indefinite hold has angered and disappointed a lot of fans. Blade was one of the most awaited films for MCU fans, but it seems that they will have to wait a little longer.

Despite the reports of the indefinite hold, it seems that Disney and Marvel might just be course-correcting the upcoming film. A new rumor suggests that the budget has also been slashed compared to other Marvel films.

So ends another comic book movie trilogy, but what is it about the number three that the genre can’t get right? Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy and Fox’s original X-Men saga both bowed out on bum notes, while Blade: Trinity staked the franchise dead. Even The Dark Knight Rises is the black sheep of Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy. It’s not that there haven’t been some great threequels, but Venom: The Last Dance is not the exception that proves the rule.
While there were once grand plans for Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, it feels like the Ssu is limping toward an inevitable end, like the Dceu releasing The Flash and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom simply because it had to. Although Ruben Fleischer’s Venom got the franchise off to a flying start in 2018, a little bit of our symbiote spirit has broken off with each entry.

Wesley Snipes’ return in Deadpool & Wolverine as Blade had some fans who are privy to the Hollywood drama quite shocked, given that they were aware of the kind of relationship Snipes allegedly had with Reynolds, which stemmed from the tumultuous production on Blade: Trinity.

While there was a lot that Snipes had to say about the production of Balde: Trinity, going so far as to sue the company for issues related to it, there is a case to be made that some of the friction on set could have been avoided if Blade remained the sole focus of the film.

The Blade mystery is continuing to rage as strongly as ever, and now Mahershala Ali’s future as the Vampire Hunter seems bleaker than ever before. While the actor did grace his presence through his voice as the respective character in the post-credits scene of 2021’s Eternals, Eric Brooks was then brought back to life by Wesley Snipes – his initial portrayer – in Deadpool 3.

Nonetheless, this latter live-action appearance of the character didn’t rule out Ali’s version of Brooks to be seen in a planned solo movie, with fans eagerly anticipating the same. However, fans might as well lose all hope of seeing Ali’s Blade and let Snipes’ version in Deadpool & Wolverine age like wine as Ali’s planned solo movie may never be released now as per the latest reports.

In what comes as no surprise, Marvel Studios’ Blade won’t be coming out on Nov. 7, 2025, rather Disney is opening 20th Century Studios’ Predator: Badlands.
The reboot of the famed Wesley Snipes Marvel movie was first announced at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019 with 2x Oscar winner Mahershala Ali starring. Production and development on Blade hit unavoidable delays with a global pandemic and dual industry strikes.
The project saw two directors exit, first Bassam Tariq, who was eyeing a fall 2022 start, then Yann Demange. Mia Goth is set to play supervillian Lilith in the vampire slayer movie. She told Deadline’s Natalie Sitek at the world premiere of her A24 movie MaXXXine, that in regards to the Blade delays, Marvel “really care, they do. They want to make a great movie. That’s the sense that I get from them and that feels good.”

Comic book films, especially those that came out of Marvel, owe a lot to Blade. Blade, the first proper success that Marvel had at the box office, was set to be much bigger than what audiences ended up getting.

However, there was a time when the director of the film, Steven Norrington, was the hottest director on the market, being offered everything from The Avengers to The Hulk. Peter Frankfurt, Wesley Snipes, and David Goyer, the producer, Star, and screenwriter of the film respectively sat down to reveal why exactly did the director of the first film turned all that down. Other members of the crew, such as Stephen Dorff were also present to record the oral history of the film, with EW.

Wesley Snipes’ Blade wasn’t just about vampires and martial arts—it also had Kris Kristofferson stepping into the role of Abraham Whistler—the gritty vampire hunter who mentored Blade himself. Kristofferson was known for his country music and rugged, cowboy-style roles. But producer Peter Frankfurt saw something deeper, something that could bring Whistler’s world-weary, battle-hardened character to life.

It was a move that surprised many but ultimately paid off, as Kristofferson’s performance added a grounded, human element to Blade‘s dark, supernatural world. And let’s be real, who else could’ve pulled off that combination of grizzled toughness and fatherly care like Kristofferson?

Ever since its release back in 1998. Wesley Snipes’ Blade has become a cult classic. The actor’s portrayal of the superhero in the late 90s left quite an impact on the genre. With the film following the story of a half-human, half-vampire warrior on a mission to protect humanity from the bloodthirsty underworld, fans all over the world were hooked to their screens. Although Stephen Norrington, Guillermo del Toro, and David S. Goyer brought the story to life, Fight Club director David Fincher was once wanted to helm the project.

“Deadpool & Wolverine” is hitting digital on Oct. 1 and physical media on Oct. 22. Ahead of the home video release, TheWrap can share an exclusive look at the bonus features. The below special featurette breaks down the three most iconic cameos in the blockbuster Marvel Studios film.
The clip features Jennifer Garner, Wesley Snipes (back as Blade) and Channing Tatum (who finally got the chance to play Gambit), along with Deadpool himself Ryan Reynolds.
“I played Elektra 21 years ago,” Garner says in the clip. “I hadn’t done anything like that in years and years. It was so fun.”
Reynolds, who co-starred in the third “Blade” movie (the regrettable “Blade: Trinity”), says of Snipes’ return: “Wesley ushered in a whole era and took risks back then that hadn’t been done. This is a character in large part that Wesley created.”

The Trailer for Michael B. Jordan’s Vampire Film ‘Sinners’ Is Out Before ‘Blade’ Even Begins Filming
Michael B. Jordan is back in action with his “Black Panther” writer/director Ryan Coogler.
The trailer for “Sinners,” the highly-anticipated vampire movie from the MCU duo, is officially out years before the long-awaited “Blade” remake. “Sinners” has been positioned as the non-mcu-sanctioned take on the “Blade” comics. While Coogler has made two Marvel films (the “Black Panther” features), “Sinners” is entirely separate from the franchise — and probably for the best.
Marvel’s “Blade” starring Mahershala Ali was first announced in 2019. Since then, it’s had a rotating door of writers and directors.
Coogler and Jordan first collaborated on “Fruitvale Station,” and then moved on to “Creed.” Jordan later made his directorial debut with “Creed III.”
“Sinners,” again written and directed by Coogler, centers on twin brothers — both played by Jordan — who return to their New Orleans hometown to start again, only to discover that an even greater evil is waiting to welcome them back.

Many comic book characters have been brought to the big screen over the years, but there are only so many actors willing to fill those roles.
That's why a few Hollywood stars have ended up playing multiple parts across the Marvel and DC Universes, with at least some of them using the second characters they've played to turn their careers around after those disastrous first attempts.
For example, Ryan Reynolds almost killed his career by playing Green Lantern in the 2011 flop; however, he'd more than made up for that with his role in the Deadpool franchise, with this year's Deadpool & Wolverine now the highest-grossing R-Rated movie of all time.
Today, we're looking at 8 actors who have played comic book characters in poorly received superhero movies, only to later redeem themselves with far more successful performances in movies and TV show that didn't flop with fans, critics, and at the box office.

Marvel is the behemoth franchise that has over the years established a giant fanbase worldwide. The banner contains a wide array of characters, several storylines, and projects lined up that have fans excited for the next big thing. Unfortunately with great expectation comes great disappointment, and recent delays in upcoming projects have left fans disheartened.
One notable example is the Blade reboot with Mahershala Ali which was planned in 2019 but has not seen the light of the day since. Ali isn’t the only one waiting on the sideline, as another show got the same treatment. Iman Vellani starred in the Ms. Marvel TV show which has been waiting for a second season since its culmination in 2022.

Marvel Studios announced a reboot of the franchise, with the actor taking over the character from the Og Blade. Unfortunately, the project has been stuck in development since time immemorial and Michael B. Jordan’s next project might just prove to be a generous sprinkle of salt on Mahershala Ali’s wounds.

The world of superheroes and villains will soon be overtaken by the realm of the supernatural. Marvel has its fair share of things that go bump in the night, Blade being among the top 5 of that list. Talking to Total Film, Olsen explained why she didn't find that necessary.
"No, she needs no advice," the WandaVision star admitted. "She can handle her own in the world. She's a very tough broad. She knows she can navigate any situation, I think."

Welcome to a new episode from The Film Stage! It’s not The Film Stage Show. It’s not The B-Side! It’s something else! It’s a Box Office Bonanza from The Film Stage! Here we talk about random box office weekends and where they fit into our lives. The movies, the memories! This episode features Dan Mecca, Conor O’Donnell, Mitchell Beaupre, Jordan Raup, and Ross Bratin.
The box office weekend in question is January 14th, 2005. The number one movie in the country was the Samuel L. Jackson basketball picture Coach Carter. The number five movie was the superhero dud Elektra. There’s also the little-seen indie A Love Song for Bobby Long. The Flight of the Phoenix remake was still on the board. Racing Stripes was about to hold really well for a few weeks. Way down is Blade: Trinity, in its sixth week. We discuss those reports...

The "Blade" franchise is feeling a little cursed these days. The reboot set to star Mahershala Ali keeps gaining and losing directors and feels like it might never actually see the light of day. Meanwhile, it seems like the original Blade, Wesley Snipes, has been relegated to the world of cameos. It's great to see him on "What We Do in the Shadows," of course, hamming it up a bit on the vampire council with some other amazing vampire actors. The response to Snipes' appearance in "Deadpool & Wolverine," though, has been a bit more mixed.
Some fans were thrilled to see Snipes as Blade again in any form, even if it was some void-based multiverse weirdness. Others felt that it was just another part of a film that was pandering and leaned too hard on meta-references. Regardless of whether you loved seeing the Og Blade back onscreen or felt...

Deadpool & Wolverine brought back a few fan-favourite characters from the Marvel Universe's past, though Wesley Snipes' Blade was easily the biggest surprise.
Snipes and Reynolds famously clashed while shooting Blade: Trinity and, with Mahershala Ali still attached to a Blade reboot announced five years ago, it's fair to say we all thought the actor's time as the Daywalker had reached its end.
Despite being 62, Snipes didn't look like he'd lost a step as Blade and was a total badass in the Marvel Studios threequel.
Now, we get to see a few different costume designs for the character; coming our way courtesy of artist Wes Burt, this concept art features Blade rocking a new, modern style along with a battle-worn outfit he's clearly spent a fair bit of time in while fighting his way through The Void.

Remember when Warner Bros. announced Michael Keaton was coming back as Batman for "The Flash?" I do, because I wrote a whole article about why the whole thing was very concerning — mainly due to the fact that Keaton's Batman was so of a piece with Tim Burton's expressionist vision for Gotham that it seemed very odd to think of this character uprooted and tossed into the midst of a modern action comedy blockbuster. Still, I hoped that director Andy Muschietti would do his best to maintain the standard set by Keaton and Burton 30 years prior. Then, "The Flash" debuted and not only became a box office flop of super-heroic proportions, but also confirmed my worst fears about Keaton's return.
Now, Marvel Studios has done the same thing to Blade. Long before Ryan Reynolds rescued the Marvel Cinematic Universe from complete collapse, Wesley Snipes gave Marvel its first modest on-screen hit with 1998's "Blade.

Ryan Reynolds is celebrating Wesley Snipes on Deadpool & Wolverine and called for “more Blade.”
The actor dedicated a social media post to Snipes, who made a cameo in the Marvel film, reprising the Blade role he first portrayed in the 1998 film directed by Stephen Norrington.
“The reaction when @realwesleysnipes enters the movie is the most intense thing l’ve heard in a theater. People screaming with uninhibited joy and love is also the sound of a legacy,” Reynolds shared on Instagram with a carousel of photos from the set of the superhero film.
Reynolds added, “More Blade please. #DayWalker.”
At the end of the post, Reynolds noted, “A Logan-style send off, specifically.”

The whispers and, if you’ll pardon the pun, sniping around Marvel Studios’ long-gestating Blade reboot have reached a level of farce with MCU fans. As someone who was actually in Hall H when two-time Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali walked on stage to don a hat emblazoned with the famous vampire hunter’s name, I can attest excitement for the project was electric in 2019. However, after more than five years of false starts, emerging and exiting director hires, and plenty of rewrites, the movie still seems no closer to fruition. It was in fact only a few months ago that THR reported Ali is “increasingly frustrated” by the movie’s lengthy pre-production issues.
All of which appears to be important context given the latest social media post from Ryan Reynolds, the frontman of Marvel’s most successful movie in years, Deadpool & Wolverine, and an unexpected champion for Wesley Snipes as the Daywalker.

Ryan Reynolds is calling for more Blade on the big screen following Wesley Snipes’ long-awaited return as the Marvel superhero in “Deadpool & Wolverine.” Reynolds shared to Instagram behind-the-scenes photos he took with Snipes on the film’s set. Snipes debuted as Blade in the 1998 movie of the same name and reprised the character in 2002’s “Blade II” and 2004’s “Blade: Trinity,” the latter of which co-starred Reynolds.
“The reaction when Wesley Snipes enters the movie is the most intense thing l’ve heard in a theater,” Reynolds wrote in the caption to the post. “People screaming with uninhibited joy and love is also the sound of a legacy. More Blade, please.”
Snipes’ Blade was one of several heroes from Fox’s era of Marvel movies to return in “Deadpool & Wolverine.” Jennifer Garner’s Elektra and Chris Evans’ Johnny Storm also appeared much to the delight of comic book movie fans.

The highly anticipated Deadpool & Wolverine movie has been making waves with its plethora of superhero cameos. However, one appearance has left fans stunned: Wesley Snipes’ return as Blade.
After almost two decades, the iconic actor was back in form, reliving his most-loved character. The moment was made even more memorable when a 20-year-old reference was made in the movie, reigniting past memories of a feud between Snipes and Ryan Reynolds.
Nostalgia and Easter Eggs: Reunion of the iconic duo
Deadpool & Wolverine is not the first movie to bring the duo of Wesley Snipes and Ryan Reynolds together. Back in 2004, they starred in Blade: Trinity, where Snipes played the titular character while Reynolds was his sidekick, Hannibal King. The movie proved to be a major critical failure, but there were other concerns on set too.

Ryan Reynolds has seemingly turned things around for the Marvel Cinematic Universe now that "Deadpool & Wolverine" has crossed the billion-dollar mark at the global box office. But while Reynolds might be the McU's savior in 2024, he's not the first actor to rescue Marvel from cinematic obsolescence. Back in 2008, Robert Downey Jr. changed Hollywood forever when he played the titular hero in Jon Favreau's "Iron Man," launching what would become the biggest blockbuster franchise in cinema history and proving Marvel could make icons out of the heroes it hadn't yet licensed to other production companies. But even Rdj wasn't the first savior of Marvel. No, the first actor to truly give Marvel a cinematic hit was Wesley Snipes with the unimpeachable "Blade."

Though Deadpool as a character has achieved incredible mainstream popularity over the years and his third live-action film, Deadpool and Wolverine, is set to dominate the summer box office, the Merc With A Mouth has come a long way to get to where he is now. While the over-the-top violence and zany, fourth-wall-breaking sense of humor in the Deadpool comics made him a fan favorite fairly quickly, that particular combination also made him too niche and too weird for a big-screen adaptation in the eyes of Hollywood executives.

Do you know what happens to a movie star when they’re not asked to be in your movie? Same thing that happens to everything else. Or, to put it another way, you gotta ask actors to be in your films.
That’s the lesson that Ryan Reynolds might be learning, at least according to Halle Berry. In conversation with ComicBook.com, Berry explained the absence of her X-Men character Storm in Deadpool & Wolverine.
“Blake [Lively] asked me one time,” Berry recalled in the interview. “I ran into her at a Marc Jacobs fashion show, and she said, ‘Would you ever be in my husband’s movie as Storm?’ I said, ‘Yeah, if he asked me,’ but he never asked me.”

A Marvel Cinematic Universe reboot of the Blade property has been making its way through development hell for the last five years, and if / when the script for that project is ever figured out and the new Blade can go into production, Mahershala Ali will be taking over the title role. While we wait to see how that situation is going to turn out, original Blade actor Wesley Snipes returned to the role – almost twenty years after the release of his last Blade movie, Blade: Trinity – for an appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine, which is currently enjoying massive success at the box office. Deadpool & Wolverine star Ryan Reynolds has called for Marvel to give Snipes’ Blade a “Logan-like send off” movie… and someone who has a pitch for just such a project is Beau DeMayo, who has worked with Marvel as writer / showrunner of the first season of the Disney series X-Men ’97.

Wesley Snipes’ Blade helped kick off the rise of the superhero genre in Hollywood. While most attribute the first X-Men film and Spider-Man to be the two franchises that reinvigorated the genre, Snipes’ vampire superhero proved to be Marvel’s first successful film. Fans are now looking at Blade as the beginning of Marvel’s domination in the superhero genre.

As the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to iron out some of the kinks that its perfect record of dominance experienced in 2023, it has been gifted with the monumental success of Deadpool and Wolverine. The old Hollywood saying that a happy set makes for a bad movie (and vice versa) is obviously bunk. If you're still inclined to believe it, though, you need look no further than the making of "Deadpool & Wolverine" for an example of people having a great time while making what can safely be called, three weeks into its theatrical release, a beloved movie.

Deadpool has been somewhat of an event in and of itself in the past decade. When the Ryan Reynolds-helmed IP took off in 2016, a new leaf was turned over in Hollywood’s book of records, ensuring the dawn of a new era of cinema that was as maddeningly liberating as it was riotous fun.
For the first time in history, a movie star in the recesses of his career was given the power and the money to actively mock and call out multi-billion dollar industries, studio houses, and megacorporations on purpose.
In return, Ryan Reynolds wielded that power responsibly, slowly bringing together the Marvel fandom together from the sidelines, amassing an army of fans and supporters, and in Kevin Feige’s most dire time of need, answering the call to arms by rising to his ultimate destiny as Marvel Jesus.

As previously reported, Wesley Snipes, the original Blade, makes a surprise return in Deadpool & Wolverine, reprising one of his most iconic roles. Fans are buzzing with excitement, flooding social media with enthusiasm over Snipes’ comeback, making Blade one of the hottest topics in entertainment right now.
As previously noted, the excitement over Wesley Snipes’ return isn’t limited to fans alone; Ryan Reynolds has also shared his enthusiasm on social media. The Canadian actor expressed his joy about reuniting with Snipes, whom he last worked with nearly two decades ago on the Blade trilogy. Despite past rumors of a feud, it appears that Deadpool & Wolverine has mended any differences, and the two actors are now enjoying a strong friendship.
Ryan Reynolds, who played Hannibal King in Wesley Snipes’ Blade films, faced rumors of a troubled working relationship with Snipes. Reports suggested that Snipes frequently belittled Reynolds’ acting skills, though these claims were never confirmed.

The latest installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Deadpool & Wolverine, has been dominating the box office over the past couple of weeks. In the finale of the X-Men franchise that began at 20th Century Fox twenty-four years ago, we see two of the most popular characters from the franchise, Ryan Reynold’s Deadpool and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, in a buddy cop-style trip through the Marvel multiverse.
Now, the film has become the highest-grossing R-rated Marvel movie of all time and may soon overtake 2019’s The Joker to become the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time.
In addition to the two heroes, multiple cameos from various past Marvel actors pre-mcu were included, such as Chris Evans’ Human Torch, Jennifer Garner’s Electra, and even Wesley Snipes’ Blade.
Blade was a very interesting inclusion. Not only was it one of Marvel’s first major cinematic successes, but it was also one of their first cinematic franchises.

Wesley Snipes returned in style to his Blade role in the recent MCU movie, Deadpool & Wolverine. It was the most surprising cameo of the film for a couple of reasons.
