Thanks to Sci-fi and the Henson Company for this wonderful contribution to the TV science fiction canon.
Farscape is one of the most visually compelling shows ever to grace the medium, and its gorgeous sets , effects and cast are all matched by the show's completely original blend of humor, camp, perspective, action and drama. The Henson Company's creative genius really shines through and makes this the truly great series it is. And the Gross/Subvision soundtrack is also worth owning.
Ben Browder plays John Crichton, an American astronaut and genius who has - quite by accident - created a wormhole by conducting an experiment involving the slingshot effect. Sucked into the wormhole, John is whisked away to ... where? His craft collides with a small war ship which then spins off and crashes into a meteor, killing its pilot. John, head spinning, is then rescued (seemingly) by a large ship which is under attack from ships like the one which crashed into his. Aboard the large ship, he almost immediately meets the lovely humanoid Aeryn Sun (Claudia Black), who introduces herself by beating him up and demanding his name, rank and serial number. Aeryn, who will become both the love of his life, and the most difficult relationship of his life, is just the beginning... Soon, John will learn that he is aboard a Peacekeeper Leviathan (Moya) - a living ship - which has been taken over by the prisoners it was being used to transport. Aeryn is the prisoners' only surviving peacekeeper prisoner, and, since John looks exactly like a Peacekeeper, Moya's new crew is not inclined to trust him.
The relationships between John and his new-found friends that develop over the succeeding four years of Farscape provide a great context for the many adventures they share. Through death, betrayal, birth and rather massive cultural dissonance, Moya and her crew see and do it all as they flee the pursuing Peacekeepers in more ways than one. Each character has his or her own arc and backstory, and even in the most plot-heavy and action packed episodes of the series, it is the characters that give the show its structural integrity.
The acting is - across the board - spot-on. Browder and Black are superb and have great chemistry. Anthony Simcoe, Gigi Edgley, Virginia Hey, Lani Tupu, Rae Lee Hill and Paul Goddard were all excellent. I am going to single out Wayne Pygram, however, for his amazing interpretation of one of the most ambiguous and memorable villains (?) in the history of sci fi entertainment - Scorpius - a tortured hybrid between two warring species (Scarrans and Peacekeepers) who, apparently, hates everybody and has an insatiable lust for power. Scorpius is a complex, contradictory, brilliant, and utterly unpredictable character, and along with many of the other obstacles the crew encounters will keep you guessing to the very end.
Farscape also features some of the best TV scripting and directing I have seen in recent years. Be forewarned, however, that the dialog and plots generally move along very very quickly and require undistracted attention. This is especially so from the latter half of season two to the end of the show's regular run. The first season is excellent episode-based sci fi, but in the second season, the writers began exploring complex, layered, multiple-episode story arcs. The story arcs were generally very good, but their complexity requires a serious commitment, and in general, the show is not recommended for non-consecutive viewing.
So hooked was I that I have saved searches for Claudia Black, Wayne Pygram, Ben Browder, Lani Tupu and Gigi Edgley on TVTome.
If you want to dive right in, get the boxed sets. They are loaded with special features, deleted scenes and interview which are all worth watching if you like the show. In fact, there are almost as many special features as there is show time in the boxed sets.

I am a die hard science fiction fan. I mean really, i read it i watch it i even listen to the theme songs. The Farscape series and the finishing mini series is the absolutely best science fiction show i have ever seen. The show only aired very shortly on cable TV here in Denmark, so i bought all of the episodes on DVD.
Pay homage to this show, it does almost everything to a degree of perfection. Ben Browder and Claudia Black are a great set of actors with very impressing chemistry. Farscape beats everything, Star Trek, Star Wars... The only other show that is keeping me occupied right now is Battlestar Galactica, which is also good, but not nearly as much.
If you have not wathced this show yet, do it. For me... it never gets old.

I've loved this show since it first aired and it made me sad to see it dismissed and laughed at because there were 'muppets' involved. They weren't muppets - they were wonderful characters created by Jim Henson workshops who we came to care about, appreciate and live as much as the human or humanoid characters. It's galling that it's time was cut short because people didn't give it the chance it deserved - it was ahead of it's time! Now we accept digital/creature characters and celebrate them. It also led to the inevitable type casting of its main actors whose other major work found them reunited in another stellar SciFi Drama show. This is a show that deserves to be given a chance - it will surprise most with the emotions it evokes!

It took me a short while to get into this show. I find that most people who don't like it, just don't GET it. Farscape is a deep and intense show with a lot of small twists and turns in a very complicated plot. It is NOT a show you could watch one or two episodes of and know what was going on. They do a great job with the meager budget they work with and create a very livable "viable" view of the far and distance universe taking the level up above Star Trek or Star Wars. Probably my favorite show of all time, and well worth the time it takes to understand what's happening.
A little something for everyone. Action, adventure, drama, romance, etc.
Bring Farscape Back!!

I had heard from other people that Farscape was good, so when I had the opportunity to watch the two final episodes in the whole series, I took it, and I haven't regret it since. I only regret, that I took me so long to discover the BEST SCI-FI Series on EARTH. (It will be difficult to beat this one). By watching these episodes, it made me want to know what had happen prior to the final, how it all had started, I just wanted more of the same.
So I bought all the episodes on DVD, and what a blast, it does not just take you to the edge, but way behind your imagination. It makes you wonder........what if? It plays with your imagination, it's like an adventure, into the unknown for the 45 minutes an episode last.
It is well written, and the characters are really well played by the actors. Yes Farscape covers it all; friendship between species's, love at first sight, hate, sorrow, happiness, loyalty, betrayal e.c.t., you name it.
The red line in this, is that as long you have an open mind, you will accept anything that happens, anything is allowed, because it is Sci-Fi. It only took one episode, to get me hooked forever in the Farscape universe, and I can strongly recommend watching it!.

I was looking for a sci-fi series to watch when I was depressed then a friend suggested this weird show.
I am working for a cinema club and watched many kind of things but this lunatic soup-opera was not like anything I saw. It don't have the graphics compared to the new technology, it don't even have the graphics of series from 90's. Instead of graphics, there are some creepy aliens; a creepy blue alien plant-woman, a space bear- guy who has a accent of an English theatre actor, a fake Yoda who is controlling by a puppet team(a very fake one and very ugly), a gray space woman who would be better in a heavy metal group, and of course the two human-looking person who are the subject of the best space-love story.
The show is totally like 90 hours and it means many time needed. I finished all the show in a week and 90 hour means all the time which I was awake. Maybe I was depressed but I am not crazy so it was not my usual thing. This thing never happened to me even in the series like Game of Thrones. It took me in it's universe and I lived on there, I flied with them, died with them, and on the final; I born again with them.
This show maybe looks a bit much unique, maybe the first episode didn't took you, but please have a bit patience you people if u want the ability to forget the real world for a time. The best thing about it is, my depression should have grown after an addiction like that but contrarily I was happy after that because I thing it feeded my mood enough.

So sad the shows producers were told they would definitely have both a season 4 AND a season 5. Yet, in typical SyFy fashion, they either lied or changed their minds. They put in this shows time slot was a second hour of a BS supposed psychic. All the awards nominated and won in the four years it was in TV, and obviously it meant nothing to SyFy as all other shows they had over the years. Yet, every show starring Amanda Tapping had many, many seasons. Why? Then, because of all the fan uproar sending in box tops of cracker boxes. Added to numerous phone calls all demanding the show to be returned. The best that could happen since all sets and most props were dismantled or destroyed. We got an entire season stuffed into a 2-part series called The Peacekeeper Wars. It picked up resolving the cliff hanger ending of season 4. Then went almost as if it was running in fast forward to give the show an ending. All of us true fans were easily able to see what a full season could have been with the same ending. We just had to find as much solace that at least the cliffhanger was resolved and an ending. I see many people want this show back. I would love that as well, but it's been nearly 20 years since the cast minus Virginia Hey who left after season 3. Hollywood treated her horribly and she had to move one or more times with her only sources of income was from conventions and her all natural herbal soaps, bath products, etc. Hard to believe she is in her late 60s and still so beautiful and elegant. Ben Browder is still working, Anthony Simcoe seems to have given up show biz, Gigi Edgley is still working but it seems it's exclusively in Australia and New Zealand, Claudia Black is and has for a very long time nearly exclusively in voiceover work for games or animations. Henson Dreamworks has seemed to have fallen by the wayside, perhaps because of the rise of CGI. They did such an amazing job creating the characters such as Pilot, Rigel, and numerous creatures. With all this written, I would hate to see this show brought back. It couldn't return with the original main characters and I don't think some animated version would be nearly as good. This is one of those rare Sci-Fi shows that is truly character driven. In the company of some other shows of the same genre have been. Other great shows such as Babylon 5 almost didn't have a season 5 as well, but was saved by another network. Star Trek: TNG, DS9, And to a lesser extent Voyager. And my personal #1 series BSG came out with the right people in front of the camera as well as behind it. Mostly wonderful scripts, and terrific acting by all the regular and guest actors. However, the last season was almost as poor and disappointing as the final two seasons of A Game Of Thrones. Lastly, I would definitely watch any show or movie with both Claudia Black and Ben Browder as the lead characters. They had such an amazing chemistry on Farscape and when they were both on the last few seasons of Stargate: SG1.

Thanks to the BBC I was introduced to this extremely wonderful and epic show! This show had everything, humor, action, thrills, great characters and the best drama! Now you may think I am not being objective, but when it comes to movies and TV shows I can be very critical! For me an excellent series is a show I can watch over and over again without getting bored! Let me tell you, there are not many shows who are able to do that! Farscape manages to do so with ease. I think there are many reasons why this show is great! 1). The combination of CGI and Jim Henson's Creature shop muppetry give the show a look never seen before.
2). Character development. Events and relationships do have an effect on many of the characters. Example "John Chrichton" (the main character)is a changed man at the conclusion (Peacekeeper Wars)!
3). Great characters. You will love them, hate them, love them again, hate them again, love them again! The alien characters portray more human feelings than you expect. The characters have their good sides but also their bad sides. There is more to them than meets the eye! Because of this you really will care for these characters!
3). Great storytelling. Maybe a lot of plot lines have been done before in other shows, but in Farscape they manage to give it a twist so that it stays original and fun! Very important to the plot in general is the chaos portrayed in the series. Most of the time many things are happening all at once. From the first episode it is clear that the main characters are on the run, being hunted and will be shot at most of the times, that's why the inside of Moya (living starship where the main characters live)is a mess! You really get the feeling the crew is in danger! And don't have a lot of time to clean up the ship, except to do the necessary repairs! As a consequence you will get drawn into the story! A lot of episodes kept me on my seat, waiting for what will happen next,I laughed, I cried,I cursed! I experienced!
4). Although it is Science fiction and it seems a lot can happen! The show is still realistic! So not every action made by a character can be forgotten or ignored. Like in real life actions have consequences! There are no forced happy endings, like in Star Trek.
I can go on and on! But simply put Farscape is (besides Babylon5)the best Sf series ever made!

Either you love Farscape or you hate it. I don't think there is anything between. I love it and even after more than 15 years it's still one of my favorite shows for many reasons and I re-watch like every two years. Farscape is absolutely crazy, smart, sexy, funny and heartbreaking. There are no resets with the shows. Characters grow, they change and evolve. Actions have consequences and when you think you have seen everything in the genre Farscape does something new.
It has an epic story and even more epic love story to tell. Yes, it needs some time to get into, but don't dismiss it because of it, or worse because it has puppets.

When I first saw a trailer announcing that a new science fiction series created by Jim Henson and featuring some of his puppets I thought it would be some sort of light hearted 'Muppets in Space' aimed at younger viewers... how wrong I was! There may be plenty of light hearted moments, especially early on, but there are some very dark ones too.
The premise of the story is simple; astronaut John Crichton is test piloting the experimental Farscape Module when it is sucked into a worm hole. When it emerges he is somewhere on the other side of the galaxy in the middle of a space battle. He lands on board a huge vessel called Moya; its passengers are a handful of escaped convicts all of whom look quite alien and none of whom seem friendly... they will however become his friends. He makes enemies too; most notably the Peacekeepers... a military force made up of people that look human.
Over the course of four seasons John, along with Moya and her crew will have many adventures; some will last just an episode; others will span a season or more. Not everybody will survive but new people will join Moya as she travels through space and as John tries to figure out a way to get home without exposing Earth to danger.
This really is one of the great sci-fi shows; it has a cast of characters one can really care about and lets the viewer know that the dangers they are in are real... there are no expendable red shirts here to show the dangers; instead people we care about must suffer or occasionally die. It isn't just the 'human' characters that elicit sympathy; the puppets are so well done that they feel just as real as characters played by a person. The cast do a superb job making distinctly alien characters likable... or unlikeable in the case of the villains... although even the worst of the villains isn't totally evil.
It is sad that it was just four seasons long but at least when viewers finish the final episode they can watch the 'Farscape: Peacekeeper Wars' miniseries.

In love with this to the fullest just wish there was more seasons this was a allstar cast and plot i cant get enough of it truly a master piece. Its hard to impress me bc i thought sopranos and breaking bad were among the best but this show blew them out of the water i must say. Was so happy the day i found this show on TUBI im a younger person with a old soul and always loved old films and shows this is #1.

I am not sure if Rygel is indeed based on Nigel Farage, but it is certainly increasing my enjoyment of the show to believe that he is. The voice and name are both very similar.
I'm a few episodes into season one and finding the show quirky and entertaining.

It just doesn't get better than this. Farscape is easily one of the best series to ever grace the TV screen. Even if you're not a regular sci-fi fan, it's nearly impossible to not enjoy the intelligence, wit, superb acting, and sheer beauty of each episode. I used to think that Joss Whedon had the market on pop-culture fantasy pretty much cornered, but Farscape raises the bar even higher in terms of its characterization and integral humanity.
Farscape has it all: adventure, drama, suspense, and a romance unlike any other. It's an unforgettable roller coaster ride, and the DVD box sets are of exceptionally high quality with numerous special features.

This is my favorite show ever. I think its the best Sci-Fi show ever made. Its serious one moment, dramatic the next, then its weird then its funny then there is action and it goes round and round. And its not just all thrown in randomly, stories themselves are great unique spin on typical Sci-Fi tropes. Acting is great and chemistry between characters is real. Its completely unique and original, no other show is like it. Guardians of the Galaxy tried to ripoff this show essence but its a corporate fake soulless take on Farscape. 4 seasons mini series rounds it up perfectly, even if I as most would love it to last longer. If it overstated its welcome it may got bad or dragged too long. I hope they don't try to touch this in a remake or continuation because as it is its a perfect piece of Sci-Fi history that shows what can be created with creative people given tools to do what they want.
I have always slept-in until forced to wake up in the morning, but for a couple of weeks now, I have been waking up early every day, just to watch part of an episode over coffee . I 'got through' the first episode, because it's an older show . I liked the premise and was interested in things to come. Then it just kept getting better and better. I am so glad that I watched this from the beginning since episodes are sequenced , the show builds and there are references. Only two episodes out of 22 weren't great , two! The reviewer who said this show is more than it appears to be was right. It is!
I am up early again this morning looking foreword to season two!

Just cheesy enough to keep it fun and entertaining and make you laugh n chuckle. Just serious enough to keep you into care-mode, and take it seriously when it asks for it.
The characters are fun and intriguing. You laugh with them frown with them cry with them and just enjoy when they all get their spotlights.
My favorite eco-fin'villan' of all time SCORPIUS.
My favorite episode into the lions den part 2 for drama, fav. For comedy Constellation of Doubt.
And THANK GOD they did a 2 part movie to wrap the show up after the massive cliff hanger on the last series.
I cannot recommend this show higher for a sci-fi fan who loves a lil good cheese. Will probably always be my favorite show
FarScape is PERFECT!!! Go and watch it on TV, buy a DVD, I don't care, just watch this magnificent show! This show has it all- humor, romance, drama, excellent cast. It is funny, crazy, smart, just like life itself. after you watch it go to our at Watchfarscape.com and help save Farscape. Farscape has been closed, but we want it back, we need every scaper out there! this show is better than any other, and I don't mean only any other sci-fi show but EVERY show there is out there, just watch the first episode of FARSCAPE and you will know what I'm talking about! This show is truly amazing, watch, and watch it right now, don't waste time...turn of the computer and Watch it. Scape on!

Every show I like starts off with what could be termed "MOTW"- Monster of the week episodes, and Farscape is no different than The X Files in that regard. In fact, my favorite seasons of both X Files and Farscape are its 1st seasons.
They also both have very similar Mythos arcs: so that by Season 2 of both shows, there were several Mythos stores peppered into the storyline. By the final seasons of the shows, it was all one story being told in every episode.
Farscape had revealed a direction for it's Mythos when John Criton meets "Ersatz Jack", who plants secret wormhole formulas into John's brain.
John Criton: any other human would have been carted away to the alien funny farm shouting "They Jiggle! They Jiggle!", but Criton takes the alien translator microbes and rolls with the punches.
With great sadness I just binged this show, there was more story here than what we were given. And John Crichton was the only person other than Elwood P Dowd to have his own, personal "Pooka" named "Harvey"- even though John's Pooka was not 6' 3 1/2" tall and resembled Scorpius, rather than a large rabbit. Consider Farscape to be a sequel of sorts to that 1950 James Stewart film...
When I first watched the series finale and it said "To be continued" and I understood that Syfi had just cancelled the show, it was a blow too much for me to bear.
But then we got "The Peacekeeper Wars", which joined the temple of Arnessk to the Alien whose face came apart in Bad Timing, the "Eidelons", and explained a few more things while not explaining others.
In fact, as well as TPW had been done, the story did not translate well from episodic TV to movie/Mini Series. Just like the X-Files, and just like Star Trek: TNG. All 3 shows did not work well in the longer timeframe format.
Why? Because all 3 shows had ensemble casts of some sort, story was always dependent on many people being highlighted, not just John and Aeryn, Picard and Data, Mulder and Skully.
By the time season 3 came out, introducing Jool, and then splitting up the cast for most of the season with some really horrific events happening, it was all one story, not much room for many MOTW episodes. And not that I did not really like the Farscape Mythos, it was crazy! I always thought the MOTW's were the meat of these shows.
So with TPW, we had no more MOTWs left, it was all Mythos, and the solution to the series, which should have been much more, was only what we got in TPW and no more.
Oh, what a 5th season could have given us!
But season 1 starts building the story, from one madman chasing Criton to someone even worse: and so it goes until John and Aeryn's only valid escape was to jump down a wormhole and end up in... Stargate SG-1!?
Long Live Ka D'Argo, Za'an and Jonathon Hardy. And Grunchilk/Toecutter...
If you need more Farscape, there are a lot of Farscape influences in Guardians of the Galaxy, and John Crichton even shows up in Vol 2 as a "sovereignty admiral", equipped with a peacekeeper accent and everything!

A fine ride into a universe filled with lots of unique characters, creatures and worlds. Fantastic adventures await our hero John Crichton on the other side of the universe. Farscape is a fine trip refined by the contributions of Jim Henson Production - I like those muppets and masks more than all that modern computer animated stuff of our modern days. But where is a small issue that drags the show a little down for me - the characterization of Crichton: he got a whole new galaxy to discover but is always whining about wanting back to Earth etc. Well, I am not an astronaut nor a pro explorer, but I would enjoy my ride for sure!

I recently got turned on the Josh Whedons epic TV show "firefly" and was extremely depressed when i realised that it was cancelled after only one season. Even with the awesome follow-up movie "serenity", i could not help feel cheated, and so i started searching the net for a viable alternative to quench my sci-fi thirst...
I was directed to the show Farscape and the premise seemed cool. That was unfortunately the only cool experience i had with Farscape. Basically everything sucks.
The main Character "John Chricton" sucks, and he CANNOT act. The supporting cast is an annoyingly zen blue woman, a Klingon look-alike, a muppet and an angry commando woman. The evil guys "the Peacekeepers" are so derivative that it is almost embarrassing (they're basically a slightly nazi-looking version of the empire). The ship they fly about in is alive and has a mind of its own, which is extremely stupid since it is always about to die from some laughable threat. Also the science is just dumb, this is actually much more fantasy than scifi.
The sound and music is terrible and the writing and plot mind-numbingly dumb. I was amazed that basically every review on the net praises this piece of crap. And as a last note for you Farscape fans; I got nothing against muppets, i like them. This just isn't a good show in any way at all. PERIOD.
