Retroware has announced another blast from the past for Saturday morning cartoon aficionados (and horror fans) with Toxic Crusaders. Yes, the same Toxic Crusaders cartoon that’s now streaming on Screambox! The game is aiming for a late 2023 release on Steam, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series and Xbox One.
The story sees Dr. Killemoff once again causing trouble, and it’s up to Toxie and his team of hideously deformed creatures of superhuman size and strength to stop Dr. Killemoff and his plans for global pollution.
Similar to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge last year, Toxic Crusaders will see you as Toxie with up to three other players in an arcade-style beat-’em-up. You’ll be able to choose from seven playable characters, including Toxie, No-Zone, Junkyard, Major Disaster, Headbanger, Toxie’s musically “gifted” girlfriend Yvonne, and the mother of all mothers, Mrs. Junko, Toxie’s mom!

Dead Love is new unorthodox love story from writer and director Chris Gallagher, which has been selected to play at the Horror-on-Sea Film Festival on Friday 19th January. I got chance to ask Chris a few questions about making the film, working with Lloyd Kaufman and the seminal casting of Emily Booth whilst writing the script.
What can we expect from the film Dead Love?
Talking tables, cannibals, exploding hearts, an awesome soundtrack and many scenes of murder-sex (a term the actors coined on set). It’s essentially a love story concerning a man named Allan, a woman called Anne and a sentient piece of furniture! We’ve got all bases covered – if you want gore, we have scenes where some cast & crew had to watch through their hands. There’s a bit of comedy (hopefully) and underpinning that is the tale of two mismatched people finding love in an unlikely situation.

Joe Fleishaker, an actor who weighed in at 500-pounds and became Troma Entertainment’s biggest action star, has died. He was 62. He passed away Monday at the Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, New York. Fleishaker made his name starring in the cult “Toxic Avenger” franchise, along with films including “Poultrygeist,” “Sgt. Kabukiman N.Y.P.D.,” “Terror Firmer” and “Tromeo and Juliet.” Also Read: Alan Young, Star of 'Mister Ed,' Dies at 96 The cause of death has not yet been determined, but the Brooklyn native suffered from morbid obesity and congestive heart failure, and his family suspects it was a heart attack.

This week, genre fans have an eclectic array of home entertainment titles to look forward to that feature both new and classic titles. Scream Factory and IFC Midnight have teamed up for the release of the revenge thriller Bound for Vengeance this Tuesday and for those of you Manimal fans out there (yes, I’m sure there are a few!), the entire series arrives on DVD tomorrow as well.
Several recent titles are also being released on November 10th, including Terminator: Genisys, Self/Less, and Pay the Ghost, and for those of you looking for something a bit older, we have Blu-rays of Play Misty for Me and Sgt. Kabukiman N.Y.P.D. arriving on Tuesday. Additionally, Warner Bros. is dusting off a true cult classic this week, The Strangler—a film I highly recommend checking out if you’ve never seen it before.

Lloyd Kaufman’s Troma Entertainment is a staple of the indie horror world – I can already hear that catchy jingle and picture the now-iconic title card swooping in just by mentioning the name Troma. Whether you’ve only seen The Toxic Avenger, or if you’ve seen Sgt. Kabukiman N.Y.P.D. more times than you’d like to admit, Troma’s influence is wide-spread. Hell, even Guardians Of The Galaxy director James Gunn was a young Troma talent – so yes, without Troma, we wouldn’t have a Guardians Of The Galaxy. (Shhh, just let me have that giant leap of logic.)
But Tromaville needs your help! Last year saw the release of Lloyd Kaufman’s Return To Nuke ‘Em High Volume One, which I already told you all to watch after attending the New York City Horror Film Festival that year. Don’t listen to my review though – Kaufman’s splatter-cinema...

As a project like Zomboobies languishes in a level of post-production Hell filmmaker Mike Taylor continues to ply his trade on many Hollywood productions. Yet his heart still burns to make "Off-Beat, VFX, Horror, Gore, Comedy and Heart filled Movies" as per his webpage PretendForReal.com. Taylor let us know that he created a trailer, an homage if you will, to the Troma Films character Sgt. Kabukiman N.Y.P.D. He has titled it Sgt. Kabukiman L.A.P.D. "Sing, Dance, Kill". It is a quick dose of lo-fi goodness and really fun gore. Taylor also provided a collection of stills and art for your perusal as well. The Raid meets Black Swan in this gritty, elegantly ultra-violent and magical re-imagining of Troma Films classic comedic super hero "Sgt. Kabukiman N.Y.P.D." Independently...

Troma films have never been described as masterpieces and I don’t think that they would ever dream of making one. Most of their films have been created with a punk like attitude, fighting against what is seen as normal in the film making industry, and this is a reason fans love them. While their formula often works well, sometimes it fails and sadly The Toxic Avenger 2 is one of the examples of their failures. Looking past the film itself though the new 88 Films Blu-ray release looks to provide plenty of features and an uncut version of the film, but does that manage to get past the weaknesses of the film and make it a good purchase?...

What's weirder, that the former Governor of California might appear in "The Toxic Avenger," or that there's a 21st Century remake of the freaky underground favorite in the works? The original "Toxic Avenger" was a low-budget, gross-out comedy about a nerd who mutates into a gnarly superhero and takes on the bad guys of Tromaville, NJ. Although it's not clear which part Arnold Schwarzenegger is in talks to play, this is indubitably an odd move for the former Terminator. Heck, it's an odd move to reboot this for today's audience, even with an updated story: to wit, "an average teen joins an environmental club to impress his crush. While doing some investigating at a waste plant, he is thrown into a tub of waste and transforms into a radioactive hero." Writer and director Lloyd Kaufman and his studio, Troma Entertainment, have been an endless font of modern B-movie madness since the '70s.

[1] Troma Entertainment may be famous for its low-budget, independent approach to filmmaking, but the B-movie house isn't averse to the big-money kind, either. Last year saw the Fantastic Fest premiere of the Brett Ratner-produced Mother's Day remake [2], as well as the announcement of a Toxic Avenger reimaginging [3] by to be produced by Akiva Goldsman and directed by Steven Pink (Hot Tub Time Machine). Now comes news that the studio is interested in doing still more remakes, and is currently in negotiations to sell the rights to Class of Nuke 'Em High and Poultrygeist. Read more after the jump. For those who aren't familiar with Troma's works (or just need a reminder), here's the synopsis for Class of Nuke 'Em High via Troma's press release: The original Class of Nuke 'Em High, directed by Richard W. Who knew that the little studio that could, Troma, would now find success outside of the horror and cult-movie loving community with Hollywood remakes of their movies? First we had the Brett Ratner remake of Mother’s Day starring Rebecca DeMornay and Jaime King, and there’s also a remake of The Toxic Avenger on the way too from producer Akiva Goldsman (Paranormal Activity 2 & 3, I Am Legend) and Hot Tub Time Machine director Steven Pink. And to top it all off, Troma have released a statement that say remakes of both Poultrygeist and my personal all-time favourite Troma flick Class of Nuke ‘Em High are planned as well!
Here’s the official press release from Troma, courtesy of Dread Central:

Remember those little Troma movies that cost next-to-nothing to make? Never let it be said that Lloyd Kaufman is not a genius because his little film company that could just might be looking at some giant dollar signs in the near future!

Troma Entertainment's theatrical classics Class of Nuke 'Em High and Poultrygeist are now in negotiation to be remade as mainstream, big-budget productions, following deals for the remake of The Toxic Avenger, which will be produced by Akiva Goldsman and directed by Steven Pink (Hot Tub Time Machine), and Troma's Mother's Day, which has just been remade by Brett Ratner (X-Men, Tower Heist).
The original Class of Nuke 'Em High, directed by Richard W. Haines and Troma President Lloyd Kaufman in 1986, tells how a radioactive leak in the Tromaville Nuclear Plant contaminates the marijuana consumed by the students in Tromaville High School.

Yes indeed my good friends you read that title correctly. Legendary Indie label Troma are currently in negotiations over remakes of two of their most (in)famous movies. One of my personal favorites, the 1986 shocker Class of Nuke ‘em High, and the more recent Poultrygeist both look set to get the remake treatment. How these turn out, and what the fans response will be, remains to be seen but we will keep you posted on any further developments. One thing is for sure and that is more folk will no doubt check out the originals if and when these do get made.

Dropping temperatures and the tenth page of the calendar means it's October. October means Halloween and Halloween means scary movies. Fellow movie blog Bloody Disgusting is now making movies and their next film is an anthology called V/H/S featuring segments by Adam Wingard (You're Next), Ti West (The Innkeepers) and more. One of my absolute favorite Troma titles is Class Of Nuke ‘em High. I love post apocalyptic movies, and when you add the level of zany depravity that Troma brings to the table, you’ve got an instant cult classic. Though this isn’t the first sequel to “Nuke ‘em High”, it’s certainly the most surprising. It’s good to see Troma pumping out new original content. I’m glad they buy and distribute other filmmakers oddities, but this is a welcome turn of events.

By the 1980s, the glory days of the movie grindhouse were over. Rising real estate values and rents, and urban renewal ate away at the grindhouse circuit, and down the houses came, one seedy, sticky-floored theater after another.
But even though the grindhouses died out, grindhouse cinema didn’t die with it. Like some sort of adaptive mutation, it found a new way to live in the reconfiguring terrain of 1980s movie exhibition which provided every consumer with the ability to create an individually-programmed grindhouse in his/her very own living room.
The first commercially successful Vcr was introduced to the American buying public in 1975, the same year HBO became the first nationally-available pay-tv service. By the end of the decade, a few major studios had formed “home entertainment” divisions for the purpose of producing videocassettes of their theatrical features for the home market. The death of groundbreaking actress Lena Horne got conversations off to a sad start in Twitter-Wood this morning. News that fantasy and comics artist Frank Frazetta passed away as well sent a few more ripples.
Meanwhile, some of Twitter's biggest names like Ashton Kutcher and Justin Bieber woke up to find out that their follower counts had been reduced to zero. Their initial shock was tempered by news that hackers might have been behind some trouble on the site, but everything appears to be back to normal for now. Click on past the jump to find out how all of this news was received in Twitter-Wood for May 10, 2010.

Jon Favreau confirmed earlier this year that he included the revered Hollywood sound sample "The Wilhelm Scream" in "Iron Man 2," but last night on Twitter, he stopped short of revealing where it ended up. I'm going to to see it tonight and see if I can figure it out. In the meantime, give it a listen, and report back here if you can identify the scene.
In other tweets, Lloyd Kaufman weighed in on the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. He also expressed disgust on the part of the Toxic Avenger. Rachelle Lefevre is helping Oprah out this weekend, and Alison Brie posted a pic from her "Community" rehearsal. You can give that a look after the jump along with Larry King's photo op with Betty White. It's all Twitter-Wood for May 7, 2010.

The passing of former Sex Pistols manager Malcolm McLaren saddened some Twitter-Wood posts today, and Edgar Wright was among those thinking about a proper tribute to him. Elsewhere, David Lynch called out one of his own life's accomplishments, pointing out the 20th anniversary of "Twin Peaks" premiering on TV.
Lloyd Kaufman, meanwhile, stepped up in defense of a remake of one of his classics, "The Toxic Avenger," which is being backed by Akiva Goldsman. Bankruptcy rumors about Blockbuster were not met with sympathy from one filmmaker in the Twitter-Wood feed. Troma Entertainment's Lloyd Kaufman took the opportunity to sound off about his long-running dissatisfaction with the video rental giant, and he doesn't wish them well.
Elsewhere, Simon Pegg has been pushing forward with filming on "Burke and Hare," and he mentioned a scene location today that the movie will share with "Gladiator." Emmy Rossum geared for some March Madness basketball action, and Kat Dennings bought a spiffy new pair of boots. An 'Eclipse' Actor's Speeding Ticket, Locations On Twitter And Kathy Ireland In Today's Twitter-Wood
Complaints about surveillance trended in today's Twitter-Wood feed. "Eclipse" actor Alex Meraz credited photo-enabled radar detection for a speeding ticket he received, while Ken Jeong harped on Twitter's new location identification system and asked whether or not his fans would want him to use it.
In a rare Twitter appearance, Elizabeth Taylor unleashed some pointed complaints over post-Oscars stories written about Kathy Irelend. I've retweeted one of those, but you can click on over to her account to read the rest. Meanwhile, check out some photos from Tom Hanks in Washington, D.C., Christian Serratos with a hot dog and a posting from the "Office" writers room. It's all in Twitter-Wood for March 11th, 2010.

Most of Twitter-Wood is getting prepped for the Oscars right now, including Neil Gaiman, who will be wearing a custom-made jacket. Kevin Smith gave Gaiman a gentle poke about the decision, and Neil Patrick Harris chimed in to put some rumors about his Oscar plans to rest.

Anyone who has ever made a trip to Sea World to see Shamu was undoubtedly shocked by news that one of the killer whales there attacked its trainer, resulting in her death. Some animal rights supporters think the whale shouldn't have be kept in captivity to begin with, and "Toxic Avenger" director Lloyd Kaufman appears to be one of them.
In much lighter news, Lee Unkrich got to share part of "Toy Story 3" with another big-time Hollywood guy. You can find out who that was, as well as which actor claims to have made out with Malin Akerman and what a couple of "Jersey Shore" stars look like in "Inglourious Basterds" uniforms after the jump. An epic week of "Twilight" TwitPics continues, this time with Peter Facinelli offering an actor's eye view of his favorite "Eclipse" makeup artist. Rachelle Lefevre also unleashed a few shots of her and her dog, who may not be an artist, but definitely looks soft.
Other Twitter revelations today include Fred Durst's affinity for a Boba Fett statue that he refuses to part with no matter where he moves, as well as Lloyd Kaufman's rundown of Troma films that studios have offered to remake. Read on, and you'll find out about all of that, as well as where to find the "Toy Story 3" trailer and how big of a drinking glass Jerry Lewis can stuff into his mouth. Fans of Joss Whedon will delight—four years after Fox cancelled Firefly, they pay partial penance with this well-intentioned Buffy: The Vampire Slayer remake: Jennifer’s Body. Like Buffy, Jennifer’s Body uses wit and comic book violence to observe that high school social climbing is a close cousin to cannibalism. Unlike Buffy, it fails to deliver the dramatic goods or to show more sophistication than a bitchy teenager...
Jennifer’s Body is high school in every sense of the term. The plot could have come from any semi-literate with a Metallica tee-shirt: A stone fox is possessed by a randy demon with a hankering for boy flesh. In the end, good triumphs over evil. We learn this in the first five minutes, but it isn’t until the closing...

The Twitter-Wood feed was heavy on media today. I've got some links below to pics from "Eclipse" director David Slade and actor Peter Facinelli, as well as a video clip from director Lloyd Kaufman of his Comic-Con roast where Spider-Man co-creator Stan Lee said a few words.

With any luck, Tom Felton’s Twitter application of choice will follow him over the border into the United States as he heads to the New York premiere for “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.” He posted another pic in the Twitter-Wood feed today to announce that he is heading south for his next stop on the premiere circuit.
Newcomer to our feed Kristen Bell vehemently defended her authenticity today, so I’m going to give her the benefit of the doubt that this recommendation for “My Sister’s Keeper” is for real. Mandy Moore also tweeted in with her reactions to “The King of Kong.” She actually split her thoughts over two tweets, so I stitched them together for your reading convenience.
