Horror fans, take note: The Night Time World (2025) is the latest chilling anthology film that will make you think twice before tuning into a late-night podcast. This eerie horror-drama, directed by Gene Blalock, Sean Brien, and Brandon Lescure, weaves together four terrifying tales, each more unsettling than the last. The film follows a podcast host who receives a disturbing call from a mysterious listener claiming to be a vampire. As the conversation unfolds, the caller reveals a series of eerie and spine-chilling stories that blur the line between reality and nightmare. Starring Nina Donnelly, Andrew Adams, and Doug Henderson, The Night Time World masterfully blends supernatural horror with psychological suspense, creating a haunting experience that lingers long after the credits roll.

Mark Gatiss is adapting E. Nesbit’s “Man-Size in Marble” for the BBC as part of its annual “’A Ghost Story for Christmas” anthology series.
Titled “Woman of Stone,” the spooky Christmas special follows Victorian newlyweds Jack and Laura.
“The couple are settling into a small cottage in a quiet village when their idyll is overshadowed by the superstitious warnings of their housekeeper, Mrs Dorman, and the legend of the village church’s tomb effigies – a pair of marble knights who are said to rise from their slabs on Christmas Eve,” reads the logline. “Jack dismisses this is as mere folklore. But as the fateful night draws near, he feels drawn to the church, leaving Laura at home, all alone.”

Stephen King isn’t just an author by this point: He’s an institution, a legacy of classic horror stories that capture our imaginations, fuel our nightmares, and speak — when he’s at his best — to our shared experiences as flawed, emotional beings. The best King stories scare so many of us that we all feel connected, and even the worst are usually pretty fun.
King’s books and short stories quickly became hit movies, many of them celebrated in their time, and some flopped so hard that hardly anybody remembers them. Cataloguing every adaptation might be a fool’s errand, so we made some tough choices and decided to focus only on his theatrical releases.
And even then, there are so many King adaptations that it gets tricky. The sequels to King’s work rarely have anything to do with the source material, so they’re all disqualified. We...

I first discovered After Midnight (1989) during my freshman year of college. There at I Luv Video was this VHS tape that gave me nostalgia for a movie I actually hadn’t seen yet. The woman on the cover, a character played by Jillian McWhirter, was quite literally trapped in time, and the tagline beneath her fiery fate read: “Anything Can Happen in the Dark.” As it turned out, my little case of memory distortion was rather fitting; this movie starts off with someone having a vague recollection, albeit of a terrible event.
Growing up I had passed by After Midnight many times at my local video shop, but it wasn’t until some years later that I gave it a watch. And after witnessing the nightmarish fate of those college students enrolled in The Psychology of Fear, I was hooked. Jim and Ken Wheat’s movie — their horror debut as...

In 1982, horror legends Stephen King and George A. Romero joined forces to bring audiences the ultimate experience in being scared. The result was "Creepshow," a gross, funny, spooky horror anthology film inspired by the old EC horror comics that Stephen King grew up reading. With a cast of familiar faces, "Creepshow" told several stories about ghosts, ghouls, monsters, and bugs. It was an all-around fun time at the movies. It was also made fairly cheaply (the budget was $8 million), which helped it turn a profit. When something like that happens, a sequel can't be far behind. Sure enough, by 1987, "Creepshow 2" had arrived.
But this sequel was a little different from the original film. For one thing, it wasn't as good. For another, while Romero and King were involved with the sequel, their contributions were different from the first film. Romero directed the original "Creepshow," but this sequel was helmed by Michael Gornick,...

We all love a "fun" horror movie, right? I'm talking about horror that feels like the cinematic equivalent of a roller coaster — fast, exhilarating, scary, but ultimately harmless. You buy the ticket and take the ride. But one of the things I love about the horror genre is that it's so damn flexible. On one hand, you can have fun horror movies like I just mentioned. And then there's the complete opposite: horror movies that make you squirm. Horror movies designed to make your skin crawl. Bugs, monsters, blood, body horror — the type of stuff that makes you feel like you need to take a shower after watching it. Those are the types of horror movies we're highlighting here — gnarly stuff, gross stuff, stuff that's going to make you feel more than a little icky. Be warned: it's about to get disgusting up in here.

The novel The Woman in Black recently celebrated its 40th anniversary. Released in Fall of 1983, The Woman in Black has become a much loved and much reimagined story. During its history it has been adapted into a TV movie, Hollywood film – with sequel, radio play and theatre production – which was the 2nd longest run of any play in London’s history. The apparition of The Woman in Black has taken many impressive shapes. What’s more impressive is that: the author, Susan Hill had never had a ghost story published prior to this one; the theatre adaptation was penned by a soap opera writer; and the first performance took place in a canteen - possibly a pub - in the northern coastal town of Scarborough (which is some 20 miles away from Dracula’s Whitby).

Tim Burton's horror/comedy "Beetlejuice" was surprising when it was released in 1988. The plot follows a kindly couple named the Maitlands (Alec Baldwin and Geen Davis) who live in a beautiful small town far away from any big city. They are blissfully married and enjoy books and crafts. The Maitlands die in a car wreck, becoming ghosts who have to slowly figure out the rules of the afterlife. Shortly thereafter, a gaggle of obnoxious yuppies move into their home, and the Maitlands prove ineffectual at scaring them away; the vintage sheets they wear as their makeshift death shrouds aren't exactly terrifying to a zonked-out art snot (Catherine O'Hara) dizzy with valium. The yuppies' Goth daughter Lydia (Winona Ryder) is the only one who can see the Maitlands outside of their shrouds, and is more bemused that she's living with ghosts than scared.

There’ll be some happy holidays on Prime Video in December, as the streamer’s seasonal offerings hope to keep the fires warm in your home this month!
As such, there are quite a few new original holiday movies coming to the service. At the beginning of the month, Eddie Murphy stars in Candy Cane Lane. In this film, the Beverly Hills Cop and Coming to America star plays a determined man who is willing to go above and beyond to win the annual Christmas home decoration contest in his neighborhood – even if it means making a very magical deal.
The DC universe will also be getting festive in December thanks to Merry Little Batman, an animated feature that sees Batman’s son, Damian Wayne, stumble upon a villainous plot on Christmas eve, one that may give him a chance to save the day when his dad isn’t around.

Mark Gatiss, co-creator of Sherlock, will adapt Arthur Conan Doyle's short story Lot No. 249 into a Christmas ghost story special, with Kit Harington and Freddie Fox cast in lead roles. Lot No. 249 is a classic end-of-Empire chiller that revolves around Oxford students and the secrets of Ancient Egypt. It's been adapted before for television and film with a horror-comedy twist. This macabre entry in Doyle's bibliography has influenced stories involving reanimated mummies, including the iconic film The Mummy. Gatiss and his team may revive interest in this neglected monster.
The co-creator of Sherlock is returning to the world of Arthur Conan Doyle with a new special starring a Game of Thrones actor. Mark Gatiss teamed with Stephen Moffat on the BBC’s highly acclaimed Sherlock Holmes series, starring Benedict Cumberbatch as fiction’s most famous detective. Telling ghost stories was a Christmas tradition in Victorian England, and in recent years author / actor / playwright Mark Gatiss – who has been a Doctor Who writer and co-created Sherlock with Steven Moffat – has been paying tribute to that tradition by directing ghost stories for the BBC to air at Christmastime. This year is no different, as The Hollywood Reporter breaks the news that Kit Harington of Game of Thrones and Eternals has signed on to star in Gatiss’s latest Christmas chiller, the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle adaptation Lot No. 249.
Freddie Fox (The Great) joins Harington in Lot No. 249, which centers on a group of Oxford students, one of whom undertakes research into the secrets of Ancient Egypt which become the talk of the college. Can these experiments truly breathe life to the horrifying bag of bones which is the mysterious Lot. No 249?

While there are many good horror anthology movies, only a select number of them could be called the best of all time. The horror anthology movie is a tricky beast. Not only does an anthology movie need to offer viewers not one, not two, but three or more compelling horror stories, but it also has to have an engaging framing device. Often, horror anthology movies contain one or two interesting segments, only to be let down by a lackluster framing narrative or closing story.
This is part of the reason why Tales from the Crypt is TV's most successful horror anthology: the show’s episodes only had enough screen time to offer two goofy Cryptkeeper segments and one self-contained story. Few horror anthology movies can boast the same impressive level of success as that HBO series since they are often let down by a weak link or two. However, the...

Its hard for a sequel to be better than the original – no, hey! Don’t close the article and please hold all hate in the comments until the end. I’m not saying Creepshow 2 (watch it Here) is better than the first movie, that’s just silly. Ok, so it’s hard for sequels to eclipse their previous iteration. Godfather II is always the answer to that but there are other things that you can prefer. Some people prefer the breakneck action of Aliens to the slasher in space of Alien. Others may enjoy Friday the 13th Part 2 with its higher violence (although it does have the same body count) and introduction to Jason to part 1’s mommy revenge story.

A while back, the CBS All Access streaming service was rebooted and rebranded as Paramount Plus. Since then, the latest Paranormal Activity sequel was released directly to Paramount Plus, and in the not-too-distant future, a Pet Sematary prequel will be on there as well. While we wait for that, the service already has several other horror titles that are available for subscribers to watch. Listed below are some of the Best Horror Movies on Paramount Plus:
Tales From The Darkside: The Movie (1990)
For four seasons, George A. Romero served as executive producer on a horror anthology TV series called Tales from the Darkside. After that show ended in 1988, we got this feature film follow-up directed by Romero collaborator John Harrison; and one of this anthology movie’s three segments is actually a story Romero and Stephen King originally intended to be in Creepshow 2! We assume that Pennywise the Dancing Clown is going to show up on the HBO Max series Welcome to Derry, which will serve as a prequel to Warner Bros’ two-part adaptation of the classic Stephen King novel It (pick up a copy Here), at some point. We’re just not sure who would be playing Pennywise, as just a week ago Bill Skarsgard, who played the evil clown in those two movies, said he isn’t involved with the show. As we wait to hear the Pennywise details, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed the names of four actors who will be seen in the show: they are Taylour Paige (Zola), Jovan Adepo (Watchmen), Chris Chalk (Perry Mason), and James Remar (Dexter).
Details on the roles Paige, Adepo, Chalk, and Remar will be playing are being kept under wraps. So for all we know, Pennywise could be lurking in their midst.

As befitting its status as one of the world’s biggest companies, every now and then Amazon likes to take a big swing with its Prime Video originals. With its list of new releases for April 2023, the streamer is taking one of its biggest swings yet.
Though it’s not quite as vast or expensive as fellow Prime Video series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Citadel (premiering April 28) is a massive, massive undertaking. Starring Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas, this spy series is described as “an expansive and groundbreaking global event comprising a mothership series and several local language satellite series.” This means that the Russo Brothers-produced project will eventually feature several spinoffs in multiple countries and languages around the world. Neat-o!

Prime Video is hoping to launch its own extended franchise universe in April with the premiere of international spy series “Citadel” from the minds of the Russo Brothers. The show stars Richard Madden, Priyanka Chopra, and Stanley Tucci, and is intended to be the first block of an interconnected story with different spinoffs in countries and regions around the world. The first version will begin streaming on April 28. In the show, the world is in the grips of Manticore, a criminal organization, and several former spies are recruited to restore order despite having their memories erased.

After a genre-defining golden age from 1978 to 1984, slashers continued to proliferate cinemas throughout the rest of the ’80s. By the time the ’90s rolled around, however, diminishing returns for franchises and newcomers alike made it seem as though the slasher well had run dry. But, like its bottomless repository of knife-wielding villains, the genre has proven that it can never be stopped. During the dry period before Scream revitalized slashers in 1996, savvy filmmakers began leaning into the campy elements as a response to dwindling audiences rooting for the villains rather than fearing them. Dr. Giggles was just what the doctor ordered.

While other parts of Asia have been making horror movies for decades, Vietnam had a late start. Tales of non-war horror didn’t really begin to crop up until after the 20th century. Since then, Vietnam has been trying to catch up. There is indeed a learning curve to consider when watching V-horror; it’s a fairly new genre for many filmmakers. But as someone watches Screambox‘s latest acquisition, the aptly titled and now streaming Vietnamese Horror Story, it’s evident that Vietnam has a lot to offer in terms of unique cultural frights and thrills. Vietnamese Horror Story (Chuyện Ma Gần Nhà) uses not only a familiar format, but also a digestible one; Trần Hữu Tấn‘s movie is an anthology. The first of its kind in Vietnam.
In Vietnamese Horror Story, a group of friends shares ghost stories when the power goes out during a rainy night.

How can Amazon Prime Video followup the first season finale of its biggest series ever in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power? The answer lies in its list of new releases for November 2022.
Understandably, Prime Video is probably pretty tired and won’t be opting for any more Middle-earth spectacle for awhile. In its place, however, are a couple of still intriguing Amazon Original series. British Western drama series The English is set to arrive on Nov. 11 to both Prime Video and BBC Two. Emily Blunt stars as a woman who heads to the American West in 1890 looking for revenge on the man she sees as responsible for the death of her son. Cool! Speaking of the English, the James Corden-starring Mammals also premieres on Nov. 11.

Just in time for Halloween, master of the macabre Guillermo del Toro opened the first two doors of his new Netflix horror anthology series Cabinet of Curiosities on October 25th, 2022. With two new episodes released each day until October 28th, horror fans everywhere should have plenty of terrifying content to keep them busy as All Hallows Eve fast approaches.
While it's easy to trace a direct lineage to the sci-fi show The Outer Limits and crime drama Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Cabinet of Curiosities also belongs to a more horror-centric crop of TV anthology shows every horror fan should check out at least once.

The weather is turning crisp and folks are preparing to cuddle up with Amazon Prime Video for the winter ahead. This month’s mix of content includes Oscar nominees as well as new television shows spread throughout both Prime Video and Freevee.
The main one to keep your eyes on is Hugo Blick’s “The English,” starring Emily Blunt. Set in 1890, the series focuses on aristocratic Englishwoman Lady Cornelia Locke (Blunt), who journeys to the American West seeking revenge for the man she blames for the death of her son. While on her journey, she encounters a Pawnee ex-cavalry scout Eli Whipp (Chaske Spencer), who is on a similar quest for revenge, and joins up with him to accomplish both of their goals.

For the newest installment of Phantom Limbs, we’ll be cracking open the pages of Creepshow 2 and poring over “Pinfall”, an unproduced segment of that 1987 horror anthology. Adapted from an unpublished Stephen King story by George A. Romero, “Pinfall” was originally slated as the second story to unfold in the sequel before it was ultimately axed in favor of “The Hitch-hiker”, the third tale in the finished film.
Joining us for this peek into an unmade Romero is Benjamin T. Rubin, the Horror Studies Collection Coordinator for the University of Pittsburgh Library System. Mr. Rubin was kind enough to take time away from overseeing the library’s George A. Following the “golden age” of horror, anthologies started appearing less and less in theaters before vanishing altogether. Domestic successes like Creepshow, Twilight Zone: The Movie, and Tales from the Darkside: The Movie suggest the subgenre was profitable when placed in the right hands. Regardless of numbers, and much to fans’ disappointment, the distributors stopped sending anthologies to […]

In the 1980s, horror anthology TV shows were making a comeback. Self-contained scary tales were very popular in the 1950s and 1960s, including such shows as The Outer Limits, Thriller, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, and, of course, The Twilight Zone. After the success of horror anthology films like Creepshow, horror anthologies started to become popular again, especially on the small screen.

Guest reviewer Lee Broughton returns with an assessment of Robert Englund’s offbeat video rental store favourite 976-evil. Satanic panic ensues when two teenage cousins are foolish enough to start using an automated telephone “horrorscope” service. Dialling 666 just might be granting the pair a direct line to the Devil himself and there’s bound to be a hefty price to pay for that. Sandy Dennis and Stephen Geoffreys bring a touch of class to this low budget but unpredictable and compelling 1980s horror show.

August’s home media offerings are wrapping up in a big way this week, and I hope you’ve got your wallets ready because there are a ton of releases that genre fans are going to want to add to their collections. Fulci fans should be excited for the arrival of both The House by the Cemetery and The New York Ripper in 4K, courtesy of Blue Underground, and Severin is having their own Fulci fiesta this week, too, with their releases of Aenigma, Demonia as well as the recent documentary Fulci for Fake.
Scream Factory also has a killer lineup of titles headed home on Tuesday, including the Collector’s Edition of Tales from the Darkside: The Movie and the Universal Horror Collection: Volume 6.
Other Blu-ray and DVD releases for August 25th include Dead Pit, The Beast Must Die, The Last Victim, Live Feed, Gemini, Hallucinations, and Alien Scum.

Scream Factory and Shout! Factory have added a treasure trove of older genre films to their catalog, and on August 25, Tales From the Darkside: The Movie, will join them. The producers of the popular TV show decided to make a feature with notable writers and filmmakers, like George A. Romero adapting Stephen King's "The Cat From Hell") and Michael McDowell writing the "Lover's Vow" segment and also adapting Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's "Lot 249." John Harrison, Romero's assistant director on the Tales From the Darkside series, directed all segments and the wraparound story. The film is a classic anthology, with the three tales and the story that connects them all. In the wraparound story, Debbie Harry stars as a woman who's...

Jerry Stiller was known for playing irascible loudmouths and high-strung hotheads.
In truth, the actor and comedian, who died May 11 of natural causes at the age of 92, could not have been more different than the TV personas of his later years: the ultra-neurotic Frank Costanza of “Seinfeld” or the miscreant Arthur Spooner of “The King of Queens.”
Friends and colleagues remember Stiller as an actor who was dedicated to his work and grateful for a long career in show business after growing up in difficult circumstances during the Depression. The father of filmmaker Ben Stiller, actor Amy Stiller and widower of Anne Meara — his longtime comedy partner and wife of 62 years — was respected throughout the industry.
“One of the sweetest and kindest men I’ve ever known, not to mention one of the funniest,” “Seinfeld” co-creator Larry David says of Stiller, who had a recurring role as the father of Jason Alexander’s George Costanza.

Film has always been about illusion, or rather about projecting an illusion meant to fool the audience with a hopefully immersive experience. It’s all sleight of hand in the end, and a film’s success depends on the wits of the magician. But what happens when the illusion becomes real and crosses the line? This is a question raised by Effects (1980), a compelling treatise on snuff films, the responsibility of filmmakers, and where the line is drawn.
Made in 1979 by comrades in arms of George Romero, Effects was made for $55,000 but was never officially released except for a couple of one night screenings and festivals. It never even made it onto home video until decades later. Was the film deemed too taboo for the market? Hardly; some films just get lost in a mix of poor distribution and apathy. A pity then, as Effects has a lot to say about low budget,...

Happy Monday, guys! For today’s installment of our ongoing “From Streams to Screams” series, we’re taking a moment to celebrate one of my favorite storytelling aspects in genre cinema: anthology films. The best part about horror anthologies, to me, is the fact that they often have something in them for every type of genre fan, which means that if you’re reading this, most likely there’s going to be something in this list you’ll enjoy.
One note: Nightmare Cinema doesn’t arrive on Shudder until late October, so I didn’t include it here, but you should definitely make time for it once it debuts on their service in a few weeks.

There’s no question Hulu wants to get its viewers in the Halloween mood — the streaming service will add a fresh slate of horror movies to its collection once October hits. In addition to watching Jigsaw psychologically torture victims in “Saw,” “Saw 2” and “Saw 6,” audiences will also be able to see the original Hill House in the 1963 thriller “The Haunting.” For those in the mood for a classic, horror favorites from Alfred Hitchcock will also become available come Oct. 1, including “Rear Window,” “Psycho” and “The Birds.”
Anticipated Hulu Originals will also premiere this coming month. Season 2 of “Light as a Feather” will launch on the streamer on Oct. 4, while “Looking for Alaska,” based on John Green’s best-selling novel of the same name, will premiere on Oct. 18.

All the way back in 1982, Stephen King and the late great George A. Romero colleborated on the first Creepshow film, an anthology-based homage to the horror comic books of the 1950s. It’s become a cult-classic, a film remembered fondly by most. It is, even all these years later, still a wonderful movie. 2019 sees Creepshow return, but this time as an anthology television show that will air on the horror streaming platform, Shudder. I was immediately excited about this, being a big fan of Creepshow (and Creepshow 2 for that matter), and had an opportunity to check out the very first episode of this brand-spanking-new series.

Spooky season is upon us, and Hulu is getting into the spirit with a number of horror or Halloween-themed offerings on its October line-up.
Along with Hulu originals like the horror anthology “Into the Dark” and the second season of Stephen King’s “Castle Rock,” the streamer is also offering films from the “Saw,” “Blade” and “Hellraiser” franchises beginning next month. For the more faint of heart, Hulu is also offering three seasons of Food Network’s “Halloween Wars” and the surely adorable “Kids Halloween Baking Championship.”
Not specifically Halloween-themed, but potentially haunting: All six seasons of the original run of “The Hills” will be available to stream on Oct. 1 for those looking to revisit the halcyon days of reality television and questionable late-aughts fashion.

Amazon Prime Video has confirmed that five original shows will be debuting new episodes on the streaming service in September. Among these are the first seasons of the groundbreaking animated series “Undone,” which will be available in both 4K and Hrd, and the German import “Chris Tall Presentes,” an unscripted series starring the comedian. Another animated series, “Niko And The Sword of Light,” returns for a sophomore season. And “Transparent” will sign off with a sung finale.
The Amazon original film “Late Night” will start streaming justt a few months after its successful theatrical run. Mindy Kaling both wrote and starred in this wry look at the world of TV, with Emma Thompson stealing scenes as the beleaguered host of a failing talk show.

Amazon is out with its list of new additions coming to Prime Video next month, and you’ll want to mark your calendar for the epic musical finale of “Transparent,” coming Sept. 27.
“Chris Tall Presents…” — the first unscripted German Amazon Original which features six episodes of the comedian performing stand-up and introducing his friends as guests — will premiere at a date still to be determined. The same is the case for “Family Man,” a new Amazon Original series which, according to the streaming giant, tells the story of a middle-class man who works for a special cell of the National Investigation Agency.
Other Prime Originals include the first seasons of “El Corazón de Sergio Ramos,” about the Spanish soccer player, and the animated series “Undone.” “Rango,” “Legally Blonde” and “Saturday Night Fever” are among some of the already released movies that will now be available on Prime.
