In a village in the Spanish Levante called Peñiscola (Valencia) , lives Justo (Fernando Esteso) , the priest. Along the way , the friendly reverend Don Justo giving masses , confessing and adequately exercising his priesthood .He is loved by all the neighbors for his way of helping others . One day , a young (Adriana Ozores) -daughter of the communist leader (Juanito Navarro)- gets pregnant and accuses to Don Justo to be the father of the future baby . But things go wrong and get even more complicated when at the church appears the bishop Ludovico (Antonio Ozores).
A funny and diverting comedy about a sympathetic priest , professionally directed by the prolific Mariano Ozores . Run-of-the-mill Fernando Esteso movie with habitual ingredients as irony , silly jokes , amusing messes , nude girls , hilarious moments, entertainment and amusement . It is a nutty Spanish comedy that offers no intellectual stimulus whatsoever , though it has some fun , mayhem and disconcerting events . Despite seeming quite grotesque , this film perfectly reflects the mood and the reality of Spain in the subsequent decade immediate Post-Franco era. Although cringes at times , the humour still holds up , at times . A flick with its ups and downs , but not being a bad movie , if you take it for what it is . You will find some great and attractive jokes along the yarn , being really an incredible mix of humor, "caspa" and a little bit of drama ; delivering entertainment and diversion enough. Made in the wake of the previous Pajares-Esteso movies, as they played big hit pictures , however , here Esteso provides an only recital , though his colleague Andrés Pajares delivers a brief likable final intervention as guest star while arriving in the village as a new and really modern priest called Padre Redford . Fernando Esteso performed his own vehicles in some films ,such as El ¨Erotico enmascarado¨, ¨El Soplagaitas¨ , El hijo del cura¨, ¨Pepito Piscinas¨, ¨El Primer Divorcio¨, ¨Queremos un hijo tuyo¨, ¨4 Mujeres y un lio¨, ¨Queremos un hijo tuyo¨. There are some nice jokes in the film and the cast , playing eccentric characters , make a cosy fit and having big fun . Along with Esteso appearing a lot of familiar faces , such as : Adriana Ozores , Antonio Ozores , José Sazatornil, Florinda Chico, Luisa Armenteros , Francisco Camoiras, Emilio Fornet , Mary Carmen Prendes, Luis Lorenzo and Juanito Navarro . Adding usual actresses of the ¨Destape¨ such as : Nadine Rochex and Beatriz Escudero playing two prostitutes . The film attempts to give laughs and it works here and there , resulting in an amusing though middling motion picture . My feelings are extremely mixed but I must admit there are some brief and enjoyable laughters , being an uneven comedy , but better than other Esteso vehicles . Rating : 5/10. Passable and acceptable. It had a sequel¨El Cura ya tiene hijo¨ (1984) in which the priest meets a left baby at the door of house , of course , all the citizens think that the baby belongs to Don Justo, then he plans a twisted caper so that the baby returns to the hands of the real parents, being made by the same technician and artist team , adding other actors as Manuel Zarzo , África Pratt, Antonio Gamero and Alfonso Del Real .
Fernando Esteso formed with his partner Andrés Pajares are two cool Spanish actors , usually playing a duo of unfortunate , roguish , swindlers as well as bungling people . They usually made couple in a lot of films and achieved much success in the 80s that partially reflected the mood and the reality of Spain in the immediate Post-Franco era , dealing with politic juncture about the post-Franquismo in similar style to other films from this period . The movies they played were very funny and with many support actors . The pictures were in short budget and lackluster but including light comedy and lots of fun . They usually played a duo of shameless friends executing petty thefts, capers and tricks in similar style to classical films of Commedia all'Italiana of the fifties . Those films contained many nude girls , laughs and slapstick , being mostly written/directed by Mariano Ozores , a craftsman filmmaker and writer who recently won a Goya Award (2016) to his long and fruitful career . The latter made with these two famous comedians , -Fernando and Andres Pajares- several films , as they had various years partnership, developing a successful artistic team between the two leads , such as ¨Agitese Antes Usarla¨ , ¨Al Este Del Oeste¨, ¨Los Liantes¨, ¨Los Energeticos¨, ¨La Lola Lleva Al Huerto¨ , ¨El Currante¨, El Hijo Del Cura¨ and especially ¨Los Bingueros¨ was one of their greatest hits . These films were charming as well as embarrassing comedies that contained crazy events , nudism , amusement , laughters and absurd situations . But also their certain importance talking about the Spanish society at the time . Their humor was sometimes cheesy and gross-out with numerous naughty and picaresque situations such as sex jokes , adulteries , jealousy , and a number of erotic scenes, but resulted to be really amusing.

Spanish super-director Mariano Ozores, a visionary, put all his skills on this film. He got from Fernando Esteso a decent interpretation, a very difficult thing to get, and all the cast are brilliant. This film was so successful that two years later Mariano Ozores directed 'El cura ya tiene hijo', another great comedy from the Ozores saga. I've rated this film 10/10.
