Most of the players took their roles to earn extra money after a strike essentially crippled their finances. Ultimately, NFL players did earn an early form of restricted free agency due to that strike in 1970, but it took a ruling by the Supreme Court years later to make it happen.
Four of the six main actors have been elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame; Morris and Washington have not.
