“Happy’s Place” has brought on Justina Machado and Christopher Rich as guest stars, Variety has learned exclusively.

The role will mark a reunion between Rich and “Happy’s Place” star Reba McEntire, as the two previously starred in McEntire’s hit self-titled sitcom “Reba” across its six-season run.

Rich will play Maverick, described as “a local tattoo artist that is very good at his job … as long as he’s using his right hand. Turns out Maverick has had a stroke and likes to tease new clients about which hand he’s going to use when he starts doing their tattoos.”

Machado will appear as Maritza, the mother of Isabella (Belissa Escobedo). Maritza is said to be “a self-made woman who put herself through law school as a single mom. She started a wildly successful law practice and does not suffer fools.”

“So very sorry to report that Linda died at home Friday afternoon [January 17] at 3:15,” shared Laundra’s husband, David, in a post on Facebook. “I was holding her hand when she took her last breath. No more pain. At peace now and forever more.”

Helen Gallagher, best known to soap fans for her role as matriarch Maeve Ryan on the ABC daytime drama series “Ryan’s Hope” has died. Gallagher passed away on Sunday, November 24. She was 98 years old.

Born July 19, 1926 in Brooklyn, New York, Gallagher was a two-time Tony Award winner and a three-time Daytime Emmy Award winner, who also appeared on the soap operas “Another World,” “All My Children” and “One Life to Live.”

The news of Gallagher’s passing was first announced by The Washington Post, which was confirmed by Edith Meeks, the executive and artistic director at the Herbert Berghof Studio, where Gallagher had a long affiliation. An official cause of death was not provided at press time.

Some sad news in entertainment. Actress Helen Gallagher, a two-time Daytime Emmy winner, passed away on Sunday, November 24 at the age of 98.

Gallagher is best known for her role as Ryan Hope’s matriarch, Maeve Ryan. The legendary performer was with the daytime drama throughout the show’s tenure from 1975 to 1989.

A Brooklyn native, Gallagher worked within the theatre on the New York stages, which spanned close to 70 years from 1944 to 2000. Her big break came in 1947, when she entered the role of ‘Nancy’ in the musical, High Button Shoes.

Gallagher was a constant figure on Broadway over the years, winning two Tonys for her performances in No, No, Nanette (1971) and Pal Joey (1952), and also scoring a Tony nomination for Sweet Charity in 1966.

Still, Helen may most fondly be remembered for the legendary role she played as Maeve Ryan on Ryan’s Hope.

A Storied Soap Opera Career

Playbill reported that Gallagher, who portrayed Maeve Ryan on the now-defunct ABC soap opera from July 1975 to January 1989 when it ended. You may remember her rendition of “Danny Boy” in the series finale. She also sang the song several times throughout the soap’s run.

For her work as Maeve, Gallagher won three Daytime Emmy Awards. A five time nominee, the actress took home the statues in 1976, 1977, and 1988. Gallagher’s other soap credits include Another World, All My Children, and One Life To Live.

Broadway Star

Throughout her career, Gallagher also appeared on Broadway’s stages 21 times. She started on Broadway as a ballerina in Seven Lively Arts and Mr. Strauss Goes to Boston. She also danced in Billion Dollar Baby and Brigadoon.

Born on July 19, 1926, in New York City, Gallagher already was a singing, dancing and acting veteran of numerous Broadway shows when she was cast as Gladys Bumps in the Chicago-set 1952 musical Pal Joey. Starring opposite Harold Lang and Vivienne Segal, she won the Tony for Best Featured Actress in a Musical.

She went on to appear in such Golden Age Broadway musicals as The Pajama Game, Mame, Finian’s Rainbow and Sweet Charity, earning a second Featured Actress Tony nom for playing Mickie alongside Gwen Verdon and Ruth Buzzi. Helen Gallagher, the spunky Broadway triple threat who received two Tony Awards and starred as the matriarch Maeve Ryan for all 13-plus years of the ABC soap opera Ryan’s Hope, has died. She was 98.

Gallagher died Sunday at a hospital in Manhattan, Edith Meeks, executive and artistic director at New York’s Herbert Berghof Studio, told The Washington Post. Gallagher taught a class in “Singing for the Musical Theater” there for years.

The radiant singer, dancer and actress received her first Tony in 1952 for her portrayal of showgirl Gladys Bumps in a revival of the Rodgers & Hart musical Pal Joey, then landed another in 1971 for her turn as flapper Lucille Early, another wise-cracking character, in a revival of Busby Berkeley’s No, No, Nanette.

Robert Guza, Jr., who had previously been named an executive producer alongside creator, head writer, executive producer and showrunner Michele Val Jean, will also be part of the show’s writers’ room as co-head writer. In addition to serving as head writer at “General Hospital,” Guza is also best known for his writing work on “Santa Barbara” (writer), “Sunset Beach” (co-creator; co-head writer) and “Loving” (co-head writer). Full House star Dave Coulier revealed Wednesday that he’s been diagnosed with Stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

The actor and comedian told People that he was diagnosed in October after an upper respiratory infection caused swelling in his lymph nodes. His doctor then recommended he get Pet and Ct scans, and a biopsy.

The only ex-daytime soap actor ever named People’s “Sexiest Man Alive” was All My Children alum Michael B. Jordan, who took the title in 2020. His post-soap career has included Black Panther, the Creed movies, and 2013’s Fruitvale Station.

Although technically, Brad Pitt did appear in two episodes of Another World back in 1987. Apparently, it was his first speaking role on TV. Pitt would go on to achieve Holywood A-List status and be named “Sexiest Man Alive” twice — in 1995 and 2000.
