What Do We Know About the upcoming series Star Trek: Starfleet Academy? More thank you may think. The Paramount original series will be the latest edition of the Star Trek universe and the first sequel series of Star Trek Discovery. The twelfth Star Trek series since Gene Roddenberry’s original CBS show debuted in 1966, Starfleet Academy is the sixth small screen entry in the franchise since the debut of Discovery in 2017. Overseen by franchise-runner Alex Kurtzman, the new series was co-created with Noga Landau, who created the four-season-long Nancy Drew series for The CW. In development since Kurtzman’s original deal with CBS back in 2018, the series has gone through many iterations and timelines before settling on the future setting used since Discovery’s third season.

In a recent Tvo interview on ‘The Agenda,’ actor Robert Picardo shared some exciting updates about the upcoming ‘Star Trek: Starfleet Academy.’

While filming in Toronto, Picardo, who will return as the holographic Doctor from ‘Star Trek: Voyager,’ mentioned that the show is expected to premiere in early 2026.

During the interview, Picardo couldn’t share many details about the new series due to a strict NDA.

However, he did express his joy in reprising his iconic role, a character he originally portrayed starting in 1995.

He also shared a fun tidbit about his initial audition for a different role on ‘Voyager,’ which led to his casting as the Doctor.

‘Starfleet Academy’ is set in the 32nd century and follows the reopening of the academy after a catastrophic event known as The Burn.

The series will feature new faces like Kerrice Brooks, Bella Shepard, George Hawkins, Karim Diané, Zoë Steiner, and Sandro Rosta as students.

The cadets at Starfleet Academy have a long future ahead of them. Paramount has renewed the upcoming live-action sci-fi series for a second season. In addition, it's been revealed that Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black) has also joined the series' cast.

Holly Hunter, Paul Giamatti, Kerrice Brooks, Bella Shepard, George Hawkins, Karim Diané, and Zoë Steiner star in Paramount series, following a new group of students.

Fans of the sci-fi franchise will also see the return of Tig Notaro, Oded Fehr, Mary Wiseman, and Robert Picardo for the series. Notaro and Picardo will appear as series regulars, and Fehr and Wiseman will make guest-starring appearances.

Paramount today held its Star Trek universe panel at New York Comic Con, moderated by featured host of CBS Mornings and CBS News national correspondent Vladimir Duthiers.

The streaming service announced that its original movie Star Trek: Section 31 will premiere on Friday, January 24, 2025, exclusively on Paramount in the U.S. and international markets where the service is available. New teaser art for the highly anticipated movie was also revealed.

Both bits of news were announced at New York Comic Con during the Star Trek universe panel, moderated by CBS Mornings and CBS News national correspondent Vladimir Duthiers, during which Robert Picardo made an unexpected appearance.

The Star Trek: Voyager and Prodigy star introduced a surprise livestream from the set of Starfleet Academy season one, which is currently in production in Toronto. It was also announced at the panel that “Orphan Black” alum Tatiana Maslany is set to appear in Season 1 of the Paramount series in a guest star role. The exact details of the character she will be playing are being kept under wraps.

“Star Trek: Starfleet Academy” production is officially underway as the full cast is revealed.

The latest series in the “Star Trek” universe announced Monday that the cast and crew had gathered for the start of production on “Starfleet Academy.” The release also showed the full cast for the series.

The cadets attending the prestigious and titular Starfleet Academy are played by Sandro Rosta, Kerrice Brooks, Bella Shepard, George Hawkins, Karim Diané and Zoë Steiner. Holly Hunter has also been cast as the captain and chancellor of the Academy.

A few familiar faces are set to return to the “Star Trek” universe as past characters. Tig Notaro returns as Jett Reno and Robert Picardo as The Doctor. Oded Fehr and Mary Wiseman are also reprising their roles as Admiral Vance and Sylvia Tilly.

Actor, comedian and writer Gina Yashere (“Bob Hearts Abishola”) has enrolled in the first season of the Paramount series as a recurring guest star, to play one of the instructors at the storied institution of higher learning.

She joins Holly Hunter, who leads the series as the captain and chancellor of Starfleet Academy, as well as Kerrice Brooks, Bella Shepard, George Hawkins, Karim Diané and Zoë Steiner as new cadets. Paul Giamatti will also recur as the main villain of the season.

She’ll portray Lashanna. According to her official character description, Lashanna is Imagine Inc.’s most dichotomous employee: a phone sex worker who is a very religious Christian with quite conservative views on sexuality. She has photos of her kids and grandkids on her wall and is proud of the fact that most of her money goes to tithes and taking care of her grandkids.
