Born in Portland, OR and based in Los Angeles, Kenny Regan draws from a wide range of influences in his music. As a composer for film and concert, a jazz pianist, oboist, vocalist, and music educator, Kenny works in all kinds of musical avenues-orchestra, concert band, choir, chamber music, early music, jazz, pop, electronics, and more. In particular, he seeks to create an aesthetic dialogue between the ancient and the avant-garde, tradition and trajectory.
A graduate of the University of Southern California, Kenny has studied under Frank Ticheli, Bruce Broughton, Donald Crockett, and Russ Ferrante, among others. He has been awarded the 2017 Presser Undergraduate Award, the 2017 USC Thornton New Music for Wind Ensemble competition, and the Sayde J. Moss Endowed Musical Composition Prize.
His hobbies include drawing (poorly), hiking, and reading dense philosophy.
