Martin Smith is an aspiring director and filmmaker based in North Bay, Ontario, Canada. His keen interest in filmmaking began while he was growing up on a farm in Simcoe, Ontario, when he got his first video camera at the age of thirteen. Filmmaking quickly became a hobby for Martin, eventually leading him to pursue it as a career by returning to school at the age of 35 to study film.
Martin is currently in his third and final year of the Digital Cinematography Program at Canadore College, where he has written and directed three short films - 'Split', 'Vivid' & '2:00' - as well as a 5-minute documentary, "Building Blocks". His short film, '2:00', won Best Student Short Film in the CTV Best in Shorts competition at the 2104 Cinefest International Film Festival, as well as Best Dramatic Screenplay and Best Director at the 2014 Canadore College Student Film Night.
Martin has also worked on three feature films so far in his career - "Algonquin" (swing trainee), "Lost After Dark" (assistant location manager) & "Backcountry" (set decorator).
