Alma Rosa Aguilar was born on October 16, 1960, in San Diego,
California. She was raised in San Diego with her parents and three
siblings. Her mother, Juana Maria Marin Garcia and father Horacio Aguilar Martinez were both from Aguascalientes, Mexico.
Aguilar attended the University of San Diego where
she graduated with a bachelors and masters in international relations.
She is a professor of political science at Southwestern Community College where she has taught for over thirty years.
Aguilar began to produce independent films in 2011. She has a keen interest in supporting film projects from up and coming film-makers. In addition, Aguilar has a special interest in following the changing roles of women and other under-representative groups in film. She supports greater equity and inclusion in the film industry.
