The child of a military father Meryl lived in a lot of places before boarding school, age 10. Perhaps this is why she's drawn to the acting world and the chance to make new 'family' in every piece of work she does.
She went to drama school in her '20s but detoured for some years after, running her own business as a presentation skills training consultant. Nothing is ever wasted though and the qualities needed for that role - authority balanced with empathy and warmth - have proved useful in many of her acting roles since she returned to the business some 15 years ago.
More recently she started writing and her first collaboration on a short film is doing well on the festival trail and she's in the middle of pre-production on her next. She's relishing this later life chance to come at the business from a very different direction.
