The Amazon dark comedy pilot “The Nightbeast” has added three new series regulars to its cast, Variety has learned exclusively.

Cory Michael Smith, Michael Dorman, and Miles Marthaller will all star in the pilot alongside previously announced lead Tatiana Maslany.

Maslany will star as Amy, described as “a young mother unsatisfied with her seemingly perfect suburban life who begins an affair with the boogeyman in her son’s closet – a surprisingly sexy man called the Nightbeast. But this harmless affair she thought to be a figment of her imagination begins to have unexpected consequences, as her two worlds increasingly begin to collide in this seductive, darkly comedic tale.”

Smith will star as the titular Nightbeast. Dorman will play Eric, Amy’s husband, while Marthaller will play Miles, Amy and Eric’s son.

We’ll know more in a week but at the moment there are plenty of decently priced projects with meaningful actors, directors and scripts, and there is a good spread of projects.”

I have enjoyed watching Charlie Day in movies like Horrible Bosses and its sequel, Fist Fight, Vacation, and others. I like his screen presence and find his comedic performances to be very amusing… and yet I still haven’t gotten around to watching a single episode of his sitcom It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, which is currently sixteen seasons deep. I’m going to check that show out one of these days. In the meantime, Deadline reports that Day is set to star in a murder mystery called Kill Me, and he’s being joined in the cast by Allison Williams of Get Out, M3GAN, and Girls.

Written and directed by Peter Warren (The Auteur), Kill Me will see Day taking on the role of Jimmy, who wakes up in a bathtub after having tried to kill himself. Or, at least, that’s what it looks like to his friends and family.

In Kill Me, Jimmy (Charlie Day) wakes up in a bathtub after having tried to kill himself. Or, at least, that’s what it looks like to his friends and family.

Jimmy is pretty sure he didn’t do it…Maybe. Together with Margot, the 911 operator who took his call, Jimmy sets out on a mission to solve a vitally important whodunit: did someone try to kill him, or are they chasing the specter of depression?

It’s fair to say that Taika Waititi’s Oscar win for Best Original Screenplay is not slowing him down. Quite the opposite, in fact. For we learned Tuesdsay that Waititi is developing a new half-hour comedy series over at Showtime and it already has Jude Law attached to star. Truly the work of The Auteur, indeed.

While Showtime stopped short of ordering Waititi’s The Auteur to series, they have commissioned several episodes worth of scripts, indicating a series pickup is likely. It probably helps it has the added star wattage of Jude Law also attached. The series is set to be co-written between Waititi and Peter Warren (2016’s Ghost Team), with Waititi also directing at least the first episode of the show. The setup...

After winning the Oscar for Best Adapted screenplay for his Nazi satire “Jojo Rabbit,” Taika Waititi has reportedly signed on to co-write, executive produce, and direct some episodes of a limited series from Showtime, “The Auteur.”

The series, which is still in development, would see Waititi adapting the psychedelic graphic novel of the same name by James Callahan and Rick Spears about a filmmaker who enters a downward spiral after making one of Hollywood’s biggest-ever bombs; Jude Law is in talks to star as the main character. Showtime is in negotiations for The Auteur, a limited series from Jojo Rabbit writer-director Taika Waititi, Peter Warren and Jude Law, who is set to star, sources close to the project tell Deadline. We hear the project hails from Endeavor Content and Legendary Television.

Written by Waititi, the series is believed to be a Hollywood satire, based on the graphic novel of the same name by Rick Spears, with Law playing the title character. Waititi is expected to direct. Eric Gitter of Closed on Mondays and Dan Halsted executive produce.
