While pursuing a disinterested career path in college, Alex discovered his passion for acting due to one of his prerequisites requiring him to take a theatre class. Upon making this realization, he dropped out of college and devoted himself to studying the craft of acting with some of the leading teachers and institutions in the industry: Lesly Kahn, Margie Haber, and the Stella Adler Studio of Acting to name a few.

Alex's' great great great great grandfather (on his mother's side) Rafael Núñez was the President of Colombia for the 1880-1882 presidential term and was elected again in 1884. He also was responsible for creating the national anthem for Colombia, which was based on a poem he wrote commonly known as "Oh gloria inmarcesible".
