Katryn Schmidt
- Actress
Katryn Edith Schmidt grew up in Slidell, Louisiana and moved to Lafayette where she began her acting career. She is a film, theatre, and commercial actress with recent appearances in Girl with a Gun (2022), Tad Caldwell & The Monster Kid (2023), Christmas Coming Out (2021), and the television show, Leverage: Redemption (2021). She has a principle role in the pilot episode of the upcoming show, Unhallowed Ground (2020) as Detective Allison. Katryn's love for acting began as a child when she would perform at family gatherings, dress her younger brother up for skits she made up, and pretend to do shampoo commercials in the bathtub! Some of her most treasured theatre experiences include Blanche in A Streetcar Named Desire, Carolyn Bryant in The Face of Emmett Till, and Christine in The Bad Seed. Katryn has traveled as far as Tartu, Estonia where she performed at a folklore festival in Confessions of a Former Monkey Mind Doctor. With little formal education in acting, Katryn comes from the school of hard knocks, using her real-life experience having worked as a functional family therapist, a liaison with the mentally ill homeless population, and at shelters for abused and neglected children. These experiences helped her gain insight and perspective relating to people from all walks of life. She tries to bring their voices to the heart of her work on stage and in film.
