Ryan Eddleston is an acclaimed cinematographer based in Cardiff, Wales, recognised for his substantial contributions to film and television. He won the BAFTA Cymru award for Best Cinematography for The Poet Who Loved the War: Ivor Gurney and has received three additional nominations for his work on American Interior (2014), The Fight (2019), and Grav (2022), the latter of which also won BAFTA Cymru Best Film award.
Driven by a passion for storytelling and visual artistry, Ryan earned a degree in Journalism, Film & Media at Cardiff University, where he developed his filmmaking skills. His journey from academia to the professional realm involved building connections within the film industry and gaining hands-on experience that refined his craft. Ryan's versatility across various genres and his dedication to capturing authentic cinematic imagery have been essential to his success.
In 2022, Ryan served as the cinematographer for Alice Lowe's feature film Timestalker, which screened at several prestigious film festivals, including SXSW, Fantasia, Edinburgh, Locarno, Sitges, and Dinard. The film premiered in 86 cinemas in 2024 and is currently available on platforms such as Apple TV, Amazon Prime, and BFI Player.
In 2023, he took on the role of lead series DOP on Doctor Who: Tales of the Tardis produced by Bad Wolf.
In 2024, he established the visual style and took on the role of lead series DOP for the first series of Death Valley, starring Timothy Spall and Gwyneth Keyworth, directed by Simon Hynd; this series is scheduled to air on BBC One and BritBox in spring 2025. Additionally, late last year, Ryan shot Let's Love, a feature film directed by Jamie Adams, featuring Martin Freeman, Josh Hutcherson, Malin Akerman, Jess Weixler, Craig Roberts, and Chloe Jouannet.
