The Sigma Protocol

Julie Bush has hired to pen the new draft for the film adaptation of Robert Ludlum's last novel "The Sigma Protocol" for Universal. Numerous scribes such as Irwin Winkler and Matt Holloway have penned previous drafts.

The story follows the son of a Holocaust survivor who gets entangled in an international conspiracy by industrialists and financiers to take advantage of wartime technology that reverses aging. [Source: Deadline

Fairyland

American Zoetrope has acquired the film rights to Alysia Abbott's critically acclaimed memoir, "Fairyland: A Memoir of My Father" which Sofia and Roman Coppola will produce. Sofia Coppola and Andrew Durham will co-write the screenplay.

The coming-of-age story is set against the backdrop of San Francisco in the 1970s and 1980s, both before and after the AIDS epidemic, a crisis that would later claim the life of Abbott's father, the widowed poet and gay activist Steve Abbott. [Source: 42West]

Of the two dozen novels written by bestselling author Robert Ludlum, it.s somewhat surprising that the only ones to get hugely popular film adaptations have been those involving Jason Bourne. Universal has been hard at work trying to turn The Sigma Protocol into a movie for a decade now, and has hired yet another screenwriter to turn the material into what will hopefully be a tense and intelligent thriller. This time, they.re going with the fairly unknown Julie Bush to pen the latest draft. It.s a less polarizing decision than, say, getting Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman to write it, though it puts quite a bit of pressure on Bush.s back. She.ll have to handle herself more like a Ludlum character, and less like Tony Gilroy, who had gotten pretty "Bourne-t" out by the time he directed Jeremy Renner in the title role. As Deadline...

Captivate Entertainment’s Jeffrey Weiner and Ben Smith are producing with Irwin Winkler through his Winkler Films banner. The novel is an action thriller in the vein of Three Days Of The Condor and Bourne Identity, in which an ordinary man vacationing in Switzerland runs into an old friend and watched as the man turns homicidal and guns down six people. The vacationer gets caught up in a conspiracy and is running for his life. A female federal agent following the clues might be his only hope.
