Sonya Houston(I)
- Producer
A native of Washington, DC Sonya Houston is a renaissance woman, who is blazing her own trail from philanthropy to filmmaking. Television and film are Sonya's passion. She began her media journey as a weekend assignment desk editor for WVEC - ABC affiliate in Norfolk, VA. Sonya wanted to elevate her career to the next level and be where the real industry power players are, so she relocated her family from New York City to Los Angeles to fulfill one of her dreams. Sonya is a driven and dedicated executive producer. She is a content creator and a published author. "A great film concept is just a dream unless you have money to breathe life into it," she believes. Sonya is very well connected from coast to coast and utilizes her many resources to secure investors for funding. She is a champion of independent filmmakers and thrives on the arduous process of executing a project from inception to completion. Sonya is the executive producer of the forthcoming indie film, "Andover." The anticipated release is a dark comedy that surrounds a genetic professor cloning his dead wife over and over again in a frenzied attempt to try and get her back exactly as she was.
Although she wears many hats, Sonya's first priority is her three children. She is a devoted and hands on mother who strategically manages their professional acting careers. In addition to her own offspring, she is a staunch advocate for preserving the welfare of children around the world. In her call to action, Sonya serves on the family advisory board for "Tuesday's Children," a nonprofit organization founded to promote long-term health and wellness to those directly impacted by the tragedy of Tuesday, September 11. In an ongoing effort to keep kids active and moving, Sonya has taken a page from former First Lady Michelle Obama's "Let's Move" initiative. Sonya is an executive board member of "Grab a Ball & Play." The nonprofit hosts several private and public charity events throughout the year to raise funds to purchase and donate new athletic balls to disenfranchised youth participating in community sports and enrichment programs.
Sonya is a visionary who is less about conversation and more about execution. Her ultimate goal is to travel the world and to be of service to those in need. Sonya believes that a positive attitude will take you far. She's a mother, a daughter, and a loyal friend - above all, she attributes all her blessings to God.
"Choosing to be positive and having a grateful attitude is going to determine how you're going to live your life."
