Born in the Chicago suburb of Wheeling, IL, David's love of drawing cartoons began at the age of four. After graduating from Columbia College Chicago in 2005, he moved to Los Angeles and got his start as a storyboard artist on [adult swim]'s hit show "Robot Chicken" at ShadowMachine Films. Here, he also worked on the cult-hit "Moral Orel" and collaborated with creator/writer, Dino Stamatopoulos, and director, Chris McKay. Before the show's end, he was granted the opportunity to co-write and direct the series finale, "Honor". He continued directing on Stamatopoulos' next series, "Mary Shelley's Frankenhole". After this, he re-teamed with Chris McKay as a story artist on his first feature, "The LEGO Movie", which led to his involvement on all the Lego features and further projects at Warner Bros. His comedy writing grew by doing punch-up for numerous professional projects as well as writing sketch comedy for local LA based sketch troupes. He has been fortunate to work on "The Angry Birds Movie", "The Happy Honda Days" commercials, the acclaimed series "Bojack Horseman", the Chris McKay directed film "Renfield", and numerous other animated and live-action projects.
Today, David and his wife, Abigail Hunt, continue to work hard in the film & television industry (live-action and animation) and live happily in Vancouver, BC, Canada.
