Edwin Zane
- Producer
- Additional Crew
The word that best describes Edwin Zane's body of work in television is "versatility." Since 1994, he has developed and produced television dramas, movies, comedies, and reality projects for both broadcast television, cable, and digital.
Zane's latest endeavor as an Executive Producer for the hit television show he developed, "The Toys that Made Us," has been picked up for a second season on Netflix. He is also a Co-Executive Producer on Netflix's "The Movies that Made Us."
Previously, Zane was the Vice President of Development for one of the most prolific comedy brands in America, Comedy Dynamics, in which he developed television series for comedians and celebrities such as Craig Ferguson, Zach Efron, Anthony Anderson, and Kevin Hart.
In 2010, Zane joined the creators of Iron Chef America at the lifestyle television company Triage Entertainment. At Triage, Zane oversaw the development and creative process of various projects across a diversity of media platforms. Also during his tenure, Zane developed shows for SyFy, Discovery, TLC, Animal Planet, and History.
Prior to serving as a development executive at Triage, Zane was the Vice President of Development for Rive Gauche Television in 2007. Upon his immediate arrival to the company, Zane made an incredible impact by developing and launching Spike TV's "Pirate Hunters," TLC's "Saw for Hire," CMT's "Wedding Day Disaster," WeTV's "Living with My Ex," Animal Planet's "Pit Bulls and Parolees," and Discovery's "True Crime."
From 1999 - 2007, Zane was a prolific scripted development executive, with a body of work that included consulting for Nickelodeon's "Avatar" and "Kung Fu Carter," and serving as the Director of Development for Universal Television where he developed "Battlestar Galactica," "Eureeka," and "Monk." Zane was also the Director of Development at Fox's cable network FX, in which he was given the opportunity to re-launch the network with a new brand and look. This rebranding resulted in his development of their first, and biggest, scripted series "The Shield." Zane's work, at FX also included the Emmy nominated movies "RFK" and "Sins of the Father."
Zane started his career in show business in 1993 by working as Oliver Stone's assistant during the production of "The Joy Luck Club," "Heaven and Earth," "Natural Born Killers," and "Nixon." Zane's eventual move to television came when he was offered to work for CBS on projects such as "Cybil" and "Touched by an Angel." In 1996, Zane became Aaron Spelling's Development Coordinator, and was part of the development team that created "Seventh Heaven" - the biggest show in The WB network's history.
Edwin Zane was born and raised on the beautiful island of Maui, Hawaii ...yes he can (barely) surf and hula ...no he hates coconuts.
