It is clear that R rated superhero movies have an audience if they are solid films. This was proven when Deadpool was released in 2016 and made over seven hundred million dollars. Logan was released the following year and made over six hundred million dollars. For R rated movies, that’s incredible. For superhero movies that’s, amazingly, not an enormous amount of money. Then, Deadpool 2 made seven hundred eighty five million dollars in 2018. Infamously, Joker, technically a comic book movie while not truly a superhero movie, made over a billion dollars becoming the highest grossing R rated movie of all time. It was recently dethroned by Deadpool and Wolverine which grossed 1.33 billion. This trend did not continue with Joker 2, but there’s reasons for that we won’t get into here.

In five out of the last eight years, there have been R comic book rated movies released that were very successful.

This holiday season, Sonic the Hedgehog will make his big-screen comeback in his most exciting adventure to date. According to the movie’s synopsis, Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails team up to battle Shadow, a formidable new foe who possesses powers unlike anything they have ever encountered.

Paramount Pictures has released the new poster for Sonic the Hedgehog 3, which will open in theaters on December 20, 2024. The studio has also announced that tickets will go on sale on Monday, November 25.

While the third installment has not been rated yet, the first two movies received a PG rating for action, some violence, rude humor, and brief, mild language.

Fowler expands Shadow the Hedgehog’s origin in the upcoming film, giving longtime fans something to look forward to. Prof. Gerald Robotnik genetically engineered shadow, creating a speedster with teleportation powers. In addition to his blink-and-you-missed-it moves, Shadow uses gadgets to stalk his prey, like a motorcycle and handguns. During a recent Q&a, franchise director Jeff Fowler heaped praise on Reeves' approach to playing Shadow.

Exclusive: Emmy Award winner Ben Schwartz has joined the 20th Century feature Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice as part of the ensemble cast, which includes Vince Vaughn, James Marsden, Eiza Gonzalez, Jimmy Tatro and Arturo Castro.

The film is a buddy action comedy from writer and director BenDavid Grabinski set in the criminal underworld. Character names and descriptions have yet to be revealed.

Today, Prime Video revealed the highly anticipated Burger Mart-inspired teaser trailer, which announced the Invincible Season 3 premiere date. The critically acclaimed adult-animated superhero series is co-produced by Skybound Entertainment and Amazon MGM Studios.

The first three episodes of Invincible Season 3 will be available to stream exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories beginning on Thursday, February 6, 2025, with additional episodic drops available every Thursday through March 13.

“Invincible” Season 3 officially has a premiere date.

Amazon Prime Video has announced that the animated series will return on Feb. 6. The first three episodes of the third season will drop on that date, with new episodes debuting weekly on Thursdays thereafter through March 13.

Amazon has also released a teaser for the new season, which sees Mark (Steven Yeun) getting grilled at Burger Mart by Cecil (Walton Goggins) about his lack of preparations for future Viltrumite attacks. He also pokes fun at the fact the show took an extended break in the middle of its second season.

“And don’t even get me started on your little four month vacation right in the middle of things,” Cecil says. “We all sure loved that.”

In the 109th episode of "Office Ladies" — a recap podcast about the hit NBC mockumentary sitcom — Fischer and Kinsey tackled the first half of season 6's "Niagara," which centers around the wedding of Jim and Pam (Fischer). A few hours ago, Paramount Pictures released the must-see first trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Now, we have some official stills (via GameFragger.com) from the movie, and those include a first look at Jessica Jones and The Defenders star Krysten Ritter.

Initially, we'd heard speculation she might be playing Rogue the Bat. Since these images dropped, there's been some speculation online that she could be Maria Robotnik, the cousin of Doctor Robotnik in the games and Shadow's friend and companion. However, she's named as Director Rockwell in official press materials from the studio.

We'd imagine it's Keanu Reeves' iconic anti-hero most of you will be interested in and he's also featured heavily in these new stills. Paramount and filmmaker Jeff Fowler have delivered what looks to be a pitch-perfect take on the character and, visually, the threequel looks more like the games come to life than even its well-received predecessors.

Jim Carrey really goes for it in the “Sonic the Hedgehog” movies. In the third of the trilogy, he’s not just Dr. Ivo “Eggman” Robotnik, he also plays the character’s own long-lost dad.

Things are about to get weird(er).

This time, Robotnik is forced to join the forces of good to help take down the powerful Shadow the Hedgehog (no relation to Sonic; this one is voiced by Keanu Reeves). But before his does, Eggman has to shave his head and let out his form-fitting suit.

So it’s Sonic (Ben Schwartz), Knuckles (Idris Elba), Tails (Colleen O’Shaughnessey), and Robotnik vs. Shadow, a “mysterious villain with powers unlike anything they have faced before,” the logline reads. “With their abilities outmatched in every way, Team Sonic must seek out an unlikely alliance in hopes of stopping Shadow and protecting the planet.”

There's been chatter about this sneak peek being released online for months, but the first trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has raced online today and it was most definitely worth the wait! 

In the preview, the franchise's heroes find themselves outmatched when Keanu Reeves' Shadow the Hedgehog is unleashed.

The wait is finally over. The day after Paramount and Sega teased fans with projections of characters onto buildings, declaring that the trailer was heading our way, the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 trailer has made its way online. The mood for this installment is more ominous as a new mysterious threat is unleashed on our world and is revealed to have origins that mirror Sonic’s.

The latest installment in the franchise introduces Keanu Reeves as popular video game character Shadow, who debuted in 2001’s Sonic Adventure 2 as a sort of anti-Sonic. He’s dark and edgy but has similar powers to the heroic hedgehog.

Though shows like "Fallout" and "The Last of Us" are often credited with lifting the video game adaptation curse, we don't talk nearly enough about how much the "Sonic the Hedgehog" movies had already lifted the curse before them.
