Brett Goldstein looks back very fondly on one day of his career.
The two-time Emmy winner appeared on Late Night With Seth Meyers amid the release of Shrinking season two. During the conversation, he reflected on his time on Sesame Street.
“It was the best day of my life,” the Ted Lasso star told the host. “The problem is you have to continue living afterward.”
Goldstein co-created Shrinking with Jason Segel and Bill Lawrence. The Apple TV series follows grieving therapist Jimmy (Segel), who starts breaking the rules and telling his clients what he actually thinks after his wife’s death. Harrison Ford, Jessica Williams, Christa Miller, Ted McGinley, Michael Urie, Luke Tennie and Lukita Maxwell round out the cast.
The comedian brought his talents to the front of the camera for season two (spoiler alert!), in which he guest stars as Louis, the drunk driver who killed Jimmy’s wife.

[This story contains spoilers from the first half of Shrinking season two.]
The first half of Shrinking season two has already been a roller coaster for many of its characters.
The introduction of Brett Goldstein’s Louis, the man who killed Jimmy’s (Jason Segel) wife and Alice’s (Lukita Maxwell) mom, Tia (Lilan Bowden), throws the core father-daughter duo for a loop. Gaby (Jessica Williams) has to start caring for her mother (Vernee Johnson) and get out of her casual sexual relationship with Jimmy. Meanwhile, Liz (Christa Miller) is falling apart, and no one seems to notice.
But it’s not all bleak. Brian (Michael Urie) and Charlie (Devin Kawaoka) are adopting a baby. Sean (Luke Tennie) is making some real strides in his mental health progress (despite a few missteps). And there’s a new love interest in Gaby’s future, thanks to Derek (Ted McGinley) introducing her to Derrick No. 2, played by none other than Damon Wayans Jr.

They may have brought the Apple TV original series to life—along with showrunner Bill Lawrence—but Jason Segel, who plays Jimmy, a therapist grieving the death of his wife on Shrinking, wasn’t hanging out with Brett Goldstein on set. Segel didn’t want to look at the Ted Lasso alum because of their characters’ “painful” past.
Goldstein plays the drunk driver behind Tia’s death in ‘Shrinking’ Season 2
Shrinking Season 1 kept the identity of the drunk driver involved in the fatal crash that killed Jimmy’s wife, Tia (Lilan Bowden), a mystery. All that changed in season 2 when flashbacks finally revealed Goldstein as Louis, or “Double D” (drunk driver).
Jimmy thought back to the night that turned his and daughter Alice’s (Lukita Maxwell) lives upside down. Initially, viewers saw a person’s outline as they were put in the back of a police car at the site of the accident.

Jason Sudeikis has weighed in on the backlash surrounding the third season of “Ted Lasso,” saying those who criticized the direction of the soccer dramedy “don’t have imaginations and they’re not open to the experience of what it’s like to have one.”
In the new oral history book “Believe: The Untold Story Behind Ted Lasso, the Show That Kicked Its Way Into Our Hearts,” as reported by TVLine, author Jeremy Egner suggests that Season 3 of “Ted Lasso” enabled “a small but hostile crowd of dissenters” who griped about “how the core cast had been scattered into different storylines” and “complained that the narrative had gotten too diffuse and unfocused.” (Variety called the season “unbearable” in its review.)

Ted Lasso star and co-creator Jason Sudeikis has some strong opinions about criticism the Apple TV comedy received in its third season.
In Jeremy Egner’s new book Believe: The Untold Story Behind Ted Lasso, the Show That Kicked Its Way Into Our Hearts, which hit shelves today, the author suggested that “a small but hostile group of dissenters’ complained that “the core cast [in Season 3] had been scattered into different storylines, and specifically, that Keeley and Nate’s respective storyline had become too “unfocused.”
“Much like live theater, the show, especially Season 3, was asking the audience to be an active participant,” said Sudeikis, whose comments from previous interviews were featured in the book. “Some people want to do that, some people don’t. Some people want to judge—they don’t want to be curious,” the opposite of Coach Lasso’s belief in Walt Whitman’s quote “be curious, not judgmental.

Bill Lawrence and Jason Segel unpacked their reasons for empowering “Shrinking” writers to guest star in the series, highlighting that it’s important to provide opportunities for growth in Hollywood, and that it simply just helps the show be better and funnier.

The sports comedy genre is not new to viewers, but only a few manage to captivate them with their perfectly blended story and humor. The character is an optimistic American football coach who gets hired to teach the same to an English soccer team.

“Shrinking” star Luke Tennie says the explosively physical scene in Episode 4between Jimmy (Jason Segel) and Sean (Tennie) was a moment production and ultimately viewers knew would happen sooner than later, adding that he conjured up the momentum in that scene from a casting note he received when he first auditioned for the role.
“It’s a moment we knew was coming because we hadn’t really seen it,” Tennie told TheWrap in an interview. “We saw Sean snap in Episode 1, Season 1, to protect somebody. We never really saw Sean just lose it without a real understanding of what the catalyst was. So it was exciting, but most of the prep came from really just digging into the birth of Sean for me.”

Note: The following story contains spoilers from “Shrinking” Season 2, Episode 3.
“Shrinking” star Lukita Maxwell opened up to TheWrap about how back-to-back lightning strikes delayed, but ultimately helped, her emotionally explosive scene with Brett Goldstein’s controversial character.
Grab your tissues because Season 2, Episode 3, titled “Psychological Something-ism” was quite the doozy, as it was the first time Maxwell’s character Alice confronts the drunk driver who was involved in her mother Tia’s (Lilan Bowden) fatal car accident. Goldstein joined the cast this season for that role, named Louis. In the scene, Alice walks into Louis’ place of work — a cafe — where she sits down and is pleasantly greeted and offered service.
However, after telling Louis that she’s the daughter of the woman he mistakenly killed and he tries to console her, Alice bursts into a fury-driven emotional breakdown and tells him to “shut up.” The scene ends with her...

Having successfully smuggled a weekly dose of therapy into three seasons of football sitcom Ted Lasso, Apple cut out the middle man with the first season of Shrinking. Aiming for that same _Lasso_ian sweet spot between puerility and poignance, the show introduced us to psychotherapist Jimmy Laird (Segel). Still grieving the loss of his wife, Jimmy decides to go rogue with his patients, telling them what he really thinks — much to the chagrin of colleagues Gaby (Jessica Williams) and Paul (Harrison Ford).
In many ways, Shrinking’s first outing replicated the experience of therapy-going pretty accurately — if not so much in content, then certainly at least in form. The early throes were a little tense, a little quick to overcompensate for trauma-dumping with uneasy humour, and a little slow to really open up and begin letting moments of sincerity and vulnerability pierce its sardonic armour.

While the upcoming “Harry Potter” TV series may be mostly shrouded in a cloak of invisibility while the show is being carefully developed, the head of TV at Warner Bros. offered a few morsels of information.
Speaking at Mipcom in Cannes, Channing Dungey who serves as Warner Bros. TV Group’s chairman and CEO, said that the “writing staff was in place and they’re doing what they need to do, and casting calls have opened up in the U.K. and Ireland, so the process is moving along.”
Dungey added that working with the “Harry Potter” universe was an “unbelievable dream, honestly, and as somebody who is a huge fan of the books, the opportunity to get to explore them in a little bit more in-depth that you can in just a two-hour film… that’s the whole reason we’re on this journey.”

HBO‘s Harry Potter series will be “a little bit more in-depth than a two-hour film,” the company’s television boss Channing Dungey has confirmed.
Dungey, chairman and CEO of Warner Bros. Television Group, was a keynote speaker at MIPCOM’s C-Suite Conversations, a partnership between MIPCOM Cannes and Variety, on Monday afternoon. She heads up the world’s biggest television studio, currently producing content across all formats and genres, including hits such as Shrinking, Abbott Elementary, Ted Lasso — season four of which Dungey said show star, head writer and co-creator Jason Sudeikis is “really excited” about (more on that below) — The Sex Lives of College Girls, Harley Quinn and The Bachelor.
But there’s one project no one can stop talking about, which Variety co-editor-in-chief Cynthia Littleton acknowledged on Monday, “I don’t think, legally, I’m allowed to let you off the stage without asking about this,” she said.

Jason Segal and Harrison Ford will be back for a third series of Bill Lawrence’s Apple TV comedy, Shrinking.
If you haven’t been watching Shrinking on Apple TV , I would urge you to give it a go. It’s a beautifully-written, warm-hearted comedy that gives Harrison Ford the opportunity to show off comedic skills so good it’s a shame he wasn’t being cast in sitcoms all through his career.
Shrinking is the latest show from Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence. He co-created the show with Jason Segel and Ted Lasso star Brett Goldstein.
In it, Segel stars as therapist Jimmy, who’s struggling following the loss of his wife. He begins to take liberties with his work, telling patients exactly what he thinks. Harrison Ford, showing a brilliant flair for deadpan comic delivery, plays his hardnosed boss Paul, Jessica Williams is his colleague Gaby and Christa Miller is his neighbour,...

Jason Sudeikis had some uplifting pointers for WNBA players ahead of the Game 5 finals — delivered in his signature Southern drawl as Ted Lasso.
Sitting on ESPN’s panel ahead of the match-up between the New York Liberty and Minnesota Lynx, commentator Carolyn Peck asked the Emmy winner if he had any tips for the athletes in the vein of his beloved soccer coach character: “Give me your best Ted Lasso quote, statement that you would give to the New York Liberty,” she prompted.
“Hey,” Sudeikis began, adopting the laconic, quippy speech emblematic of the cheerful leader. “Shot layups. Don’t let ’em shoot layups. That simple. Let’s go ladies. Let’s cook.”
Pretty much what audiences would expect from the good-natured straight-shooter.
Sudeikis has long been a fan of Liberty, being pictured courtside at games throughout the year. In August, Sudeikis attended a matchup of the team’s against the visiting Dallas Wings,...

Jason Segel shared some heartwarming sentiments about what it’s like to share the screen with vet Harrison Ford.
In a preview clip of Sunday Today with Willie Geist, the Shrinking actor said his costar on the Apple TV dramedy — about a grieving therapist who throws the rulebook out the window in favor of extreme candidness — helps calm his anxious tendencies about whether he’s putting forth his best work as a performer.
“If you have a complicated brain, that wants to tell you that something is wrong or you didn’t get it quite right or you zigged where you should have zagged or what could’ve been, and all of the sudden, you find yourself standing across from Harrison Ford doing acting, it is impossible to feel like it didn’t all work out,” Segel said.
The Emmy nominee concluded, “I was standing there like, ‘Oh, you’re...

When one door closes, a new one opens, at least that’s the case on Apple TV these days. A mere week after saying goodbye to the most recent seasons of critically acclaimed series “Slow Horses,” “Bad Monkey,” and “Pachinko,” the streaming service is welcoming the return of its Emmy-nominated comedy “Shrinking.”
In Season 2, the unique comedy about a recently widowed therapist (co-creator and Emmy nominee Jason Segel) who abandons traditional methods in favor of being brutally honest with his patients thoughtfully expands upon its foundation. The new season — the first two episodes of which are currently streaming on Apple TV — finds Segel’s Jimmy and his colleagues, Gaby (Emmy nominee Jessica Williams) and Paul (Oscar nominee Harrison Ford), digging deeper into their own issues, including the latter’s Parkinson’s diagnosis. With more laughs and a couple of new faces thrown into the mix, including Emmy winner and series co-creator Brett Goldstein,...

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for Shrinking Season 2 Episode 1.] Shrinking revealed the identity of Brett Goldstein‘s mystery character in the final moments of the Season 2 premiere, and it’s a shocker. The character is purely dramatic, one that will have a great impact on all of the characters this season, especially Jason Segel‘s Jimmy and Lukita Maxwell‘s Alice. Here, Segel tells TV Insider how this moment changes everything. Grieving therapist Jimmy is in a good place in the Season 2 premiere, which came out Wednesday, October 16 on Apple TV . While his mental health is in a good place, Jimmy’s dealing with the repercussions of his radical form of therapy — namely Grace (Heidi Gardner) being in jail for pushing her husband off a cliff. Sean (Luke Tennie) is still living in Jimmy’s pool house, ...
