The 42nd season of legendary sketch comedy series, Saturday Night Live, is fast approaching, and the musical line-up is already looking pretty fantastic. Last week, it was announced that The Weeknd would be performing “Starboy” and more on the season premiere, and now, Twenty One Pilots say they’ll be taking the stage on the following episode on October 8th.
Twenty One Pilots’ rise to stardom feels like it happened overnight, but the duo has been making music together for nearly a decade and gradually increasing their popularity as each year goes on. Since signing to Fueled By Ramen in 2012, the band has managed to amass multiple Platinum singles, a number one album, and they’ve been selling out arenas all over the world. They’re no stranger to television performances, either, as they’ve performed on Late Night With Seth Meyers and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Saturday Night Live...

Comic Book Reviews: DC Round Up Week 09-14-2016
DC is settling into its new focused style of content storytelling, and producing some fantastic stories thanks to the new approach. While mostly everything has been a hit, there have been a few snags as well. One issue I keep having is trying to figure out how it all “fits” together in a bigger picture. Some books seem closer connected others; some appear not connected all to the larger DC Universe. This might not be a problem for most, it can be a little jarring for me, when I’m reading Batgirl is running around Japan in her book, but is also hanging out with Huntress and Black Canary in the Birds of Prey series, while appearing in Nightwing and referencing her time currently in Japan, but Black Canary appears in Green Arrow without any indication she’s even been to Gotham or around Batgirl.

As many iTunes lovers and Youtube fanatics understand, music (old and new) has become a huge factor on hit television shows and both the show and artists featured benefit from the collaboration. Ever YouTube a certain scene from your favorite show for hours on end? Did it have a catchy song that you immediately downloaded? Yes, the odds are that you have.
Television show soundtracks are an obsession over here and the music played make that specific scene that much more memorable. "Don't Stop Believin'" instantly became a hit all over again when the Glee club sang it in the first episode. And remember "My Life Would Suck Without You" before the credits scrolled? McKinley High may do covers for the most part, but at least we get a Mr. Schue shimmy out of it from time to time.

‘American Idol Live!’ 2012 touched down in Newark, N.J. on Tuesday night, and while the pacing of the show suffered more stops and starts than an octogenarian trying out a stick-shift for the first time, the Season 11 Top 10 nevertheless proved they have plenty of gas in their tanks as the tour enters its final two weeks.
Paired with the right material, a number of the finalists confirmed they can indeed command a stadium-sized crowd: Country gal Skylar Laine dropped charisma-bombs all the way to the cheap seats. Erika Van Pelt put on a display of vocal firepower that left me...

It appears that three of the most in-demand artists around will be congregating at the same music festival in the U.K. this fall with impalpable Jack White, tween heart-throbbers One Direction, and R&B megastar Usher all signing up to perform at this year’s iTunes Festival, taking place in London in September.
The festival runs as a series of absolutely free shows taking place throughout the month (in past years it's taken place in July), and all performances will be taking place at the same venue, London’s iconic Roundhouse.
Interestingly, all three acts have performed on this season of “Saturday Night Live” with Usher being the most recent. (He even helped out host Will Ferrell with a sketch and appeared in the all-star 100th digital short).

Pop singer sings 'Don't Think Twice, It's All Right' for Amnesty International anniversary album.

It's hard to associate Ke$ha with songs about anything other than hot guys, body glitter and partying. But she's defying her usual topics of interest for human rights organization Amnesty International. The singer is one of the many musicians on the org's Chimes of Freedom compilation of Bob Dylan's music, out January 24.
When MTV News spoke with K-Dollar Sign last week about her all-star remix of "Sleazy," she also opened up about switching gears vocally and emotionally for her version of Dylan's classic "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right."
"I mean, I think it's pretty well known that he's one of, if not my most, favorite artists of all time and ... one of the most amazing lyricists as well — the original storyteller," she explained. "So I...

After eight weeks of grueling competition, last night’s episode of Oxygen's The Glee-inspired challenge when Kevin McHale (Glee's Artie Abrams) showed the contenders how to put others first for "Generosity" week. Children from Education Through Music-Los Angeles (Etm-la), a non-profit organization with the mission to provide music education to disadvantaged schools, joined the contenders in performing My Chemical Romance’s "Sing."
In a game changing twist, all four contenders were required to do a last chance performance for Ryan Murphy and guest, Glee co-creator and writer, Ian Brennan, who ultimately decided who would not be called back. Lindsay Pearce belted an impressive version of “Defying Gravity” from the musical “Wicked,” Alex Newell sang a moving tribute to his father with the Gospel hymn “His Eye Is On The Sparrow,” Damian McGinty performed jazz classic “I Gotta Be Me” (made famous by Sammy Davis Jr.), and Samuel Larsen...

A single, dramatic tear streaming down a contestant’s cheek may have altered the outcome of this week’s episode of The Glee Project.
Indeed, head judge and Glee executive producer Ryan Murphy seemed to be on the brink of booting dreadlocked Christian hottie Samuel from the competition, noting that he’d never seen the kid break down and then have to pick himself up by the bootstraps. “When was the last time you cried?” Ryan asked suspiciously. “You’re not the underdog.”

Let’s see… the Transformers: Dark of the Moon soundtrack… here’s the track-listing… Linkin Park… Paramore… My Chemical Romance… Staind… yup, all seems fine. No problems here whatsoever. In the only award show that could pit Oscar winner "Black Swan" against "The Roommate," this year's Teen Choice Awards are both out there and predictable. While the categories run the gamut form across 66 categories, from movies to television to sports and fashion, the big faceoffs will be between teen heavyweights Harry Potter and Twilight. Both film series are coming to their conclusion this year, leaving only one more year for them to compete.
"Twilight Saga: Eclipse" received 12 nods, including actor and actress nominations for Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner and Kristen Stewart, as well as LipLock nominations for Stewart's kisses with both male leads. They'll be up against a smooch between "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1" stars Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson, who are both up for lead actor awards as well. The awards are decided by online voting, so the most powerful fan-base will prevail.

MCR frontman Gerard Way pokes fun at Fox pundit for messing up lyrics to "Sing."

Last week, during a segment on his Fox News show, conservative pundit Glenn Beck took aim at a performance of My Chemical Romance's "Sing" on "Glee," calling the lyrics "propaganda" and cautioning parents to be "über-vigilant" about the content their children watch, because "our whole culture ... is set up for you and the values you grew up on to lose."
Beck apparently failed to notice that the lyrics of the song had been used for months by MCR fans to send messages of hope to survivors of the Japan earthquake, or that the band had re-recorded it to raise money for the Red Cross' ongoing recovery efforts in the nation, and instead took aim at lines like "Nothing but a...

Glenn Beck set his sights on a new target on his Thursday show: "Glee."
Speaking before a live studio audience, Beck said that "our whole culture is set up right now for you and the values we grew up with to lose." He used "Glee" as an example.
"I've watched it in stunned horror combined with a sense of admiring awe," he said. "It is a brilliant brilliant show...but it is a horror show...everybody in here is somebody your kids would want to be like, except everyone is sleeping with everyone else, it's all about self-gratification...it's a nightmare."
However, he said the skill with which the show was made meant that "there is no way to beat this." He specifically pointed to an episode where the cast does a version of "Sing" by My Chemical Romance. That, he said, was clear anti-establishment "propaganda" by the show.

Glee becomes harder to write about with every episode. The problem, surprisingly, isn’t the elements which drive me batshit or its flailing inconsistency of character, it’s that I’m not entirely clear on what made me care about the show in the first place anymore. I assume it was fun, funny, fresh and some other “f” word that means something good. I seem to remember a shrewdness to its dark humor and “did they just say that?” lines which didn’t make me roll my eyes.
The show has become a rather ungainly beast, one which appears rudderless and adrift in the middle of its sophomore season. Among those elements which have lost their focus: Will’s personality, Sue’s Sue-ness, Rachel’s likeability, thematic appropriateness of the musical numbers and any interest in developing Mercedes or Tina, who have been around since the beginning (I’ve given...

If there could be such a thing as a not-very-gay episode of Glee, this would be it. Although Glee at its least gay is still really super-gay, especially to a girl like me who came of age in an era when a two-second dry-mouthed kiss between two women who weren't even dating got a TV episode canceled on half the network affiliates in the nation.
But I digress; this is not a recap of a long-ago episode of La Law, it's the recap of the thirteenth episode of the second season of Glee, "Comeback." And despite the fact that there was no Kurt whatsoever, not even Kurt swaying in the background while Blaine leads the Warblers in song, and that the future promise of Brittana seems as far off as it ever did… this episode had its moments.
Or maybe not. I might be fooled by the fact that I've...

Last night’s Glee wasn’t about to let a little thing like plot come between itself and the popular Twitter trending topic Justin Bieber. Sue tried to destroy New Directions from within (while discovering her own squishy inner core), Rachel tried to become socially relevant (while launching Brittany to the title of Trendiest Girl in America), and Sam refashioned himself in The Bieb’s image (while trying to kick his unfortunate Na’vi habit).
Unfortunately, Sue’s was the least successful of the three story arcs. Maybe I just can’t find the humor in our favorite crazy cheerleading...

On Tuesday's episode of "Glee," Rachel (Lea Michele) and Finn (Cory Monteith) led the New Directions gang in a flannel-covered, rousing rendition of My Chemical Romance's empowering anthem "Sing."
It's definitely a powerful song, but does it pack the punch needed to win Regionals? Not so much. Still, the lyrics are definitely appropriate for our wily band of underdogs who will undoubtedly face some formidable competition when they hit that Regionals stage.
Check out the original version in the video below -- we have to confess, we kind of like the New Directions cover better. (Sorry, MCR fans... theirs is rad, too.) It's an unexpected choice for our Glee clubbers... and we've got our doubts as to whether we'll hear it again, because Rachel is on a crusade to add an original song to their repertoire, and what Rachel wants, Rachel usually gets.
Sing it out,
Boy, you've got to see what tomorrow brings.

Throughout Saturday Night Live’s august, 36-year history, there have been some truly weird host/musical guest pairings: Betty White & Jay-z, John C. Reilly & My Chemical Romance, and Jamie Foxx & Blink-182 all immediately spring to mind. But this week’s show, which will be hosted by Social Network star and Oscar nominee Jesse Eisenberg with musical guest Nicki Minaj, may feature the oddest couple ever to grace Studio 8H.
Just look at this promo picture. Eisenberg is positively Zuckerbergian in a drab purple hoodie and button-down (looks like he inspired Kenan Thompson to go for the same look, too), while...

I'd like to thank all of you who said nice things on Thursday when I told the story of my broken pinkie and thank even more those of you who offered me pain killers. Really, it doesn't hurt that badly most of the time. If I don't think about it. Or move that side of my left hand. Anyway, what's important is that after all the excitement of the Golden Globes I am back to tell you about what boring, ordinary TV you can watch alone with no one to live chat with. I have such an awesome job. Here's your Monday night TV:

"The Bachelor" on ABC
"The Bad Girls Club" on Oxygen
"Chuck" on NBC
"Enough Already with Peter Walsh" on Own
"House" on Fox
"How I Met Your Mother" on CBS. Hopefully this episode won't emotionally destroy you.

Another year is soon to unfold, but 2010 is not without its memory. In the entertainment world, anything can happen, from a young singer who beat the odds to a man not grateful enough to own an Oscar winning wife to a blue world that awes almost half of the planet.

Divided into quarters, the 2010 Kaleidoscope would be published one by one in the next three days. The first quarter below kicks off the list which also gives highlight to one particular event each month.

Gerard Way says new album Danger Days is an 'allegory for the music industry.'
By James Montgomery

Much has been made about the path My Chemical Romance took in making Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, a two-year odyssey that saw them record an entire album, scrap it and part ways with drummer Bob Bryar.
But for all the drama that went into Danger Days, MCR frontman Gerard Way can trace the entire album's genesis back to one single moment: the making of their "Desolation Row" video, which they shot for Zack Snyder's "Watchmen" film in late 2008.
"In a weird way, yeah, 'Watchmen' was [the beginning]. ... It's kind of funny, because [we] had a weird experience with making that video. There's always early signs," Way told MTV News on Monday. "I remember somebody in that audience when we were shooting that video saying,...

Band went through a lot of changes while making the just-released album.

My Chemical Romance's Gerard Way

My Chemical Romance's Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys is, on the surface, yet another concept album from a band that seemingly makes nothing but concept albums. It's a daring, DayGlo-addled story about a band of outlaws — that would be, of course, the titular Killjoys — battling an oppressive corporation in a postapocalyptic future world (or something like that).
But if you dig a little deeper, past the costumes and car chases and down to the nuts and bolts of how it came to be, you quickly learn that Danger Days is a lot more than just a work of fiction. Its creation was, in all honesty, much stranger than anything frontman Gerard Way ever could have written.

It's been a pretty phenomenal year for Ke$ha. The brash, glitter-loving club kid burst onto the scene in January with her debut album, Animal, hot on the heels of the smash debut single "Tik Tok."
In short order, she ended the chart run of Susan Boyle when Animal debuted at #1, made her first trip to the Grammy Awards, teamed up with pals 3Oh!3 for another hit video with "Blah Blah Blah," dropped in on "American Idol" and hit the road with Rihanna. And that's just the first three months of the year!

We're nearly at the end of the week, which is exciting all on it's own but also because we're getting closer to American Thanksgiving and I'm excited to go home and eat ridiculous amounts of food. Of course, we're also getting closer to the end of the semester for me which is kind of nerve wracking for me because it's my last semester of classes and I'm sort of blocking on how much work I still have to do. However, somewhere in my busy schedule I found time to email FX about keeping "Terriers" on the air, and I told them that I was totally a minor internet celebrity and I was telling all my readers that they should email in as well so now y'all have to so I don't look bad. You don't want me to look bad, do you? Nothing worse than talking a lot of shit...

Now that "Conan" is one week into its existence, it's time to re-evaluate the late night landscape. The show did a massive rating on its premiere night and then settled into more realistic (though still impressive) territory for the rest of the week, but it will be impossible to tell how much "Conan" has really affected the other shows out there (especially the Comedy Central double-team of "The Daily Show" and "The Colbert Report"). With the luster of newness wearing off every day, O'Brien will have to rely on his comedy bits and his guest booking power. This week brings an eclectic batch of stars to his couch, including LL Cool J and Sharon Jones (Monday, November 15), Harrison Ford (Tuesday, November 16), Russell Brand and Kid Rock (Wednesday, November 17) and Jesse Eisenberg and Venus Williams (Thursday, November 18th).

My Chemical Romance's Gerard Way in the music video for "Na Na Na"
Photo: Reprise
In their near-decade of existence, My Chemical Romance has had plenty of rather huge moments: touring with Green Day, premiering the first single from their Black Parade album some 70 stories above New York City and covering Bob Dylan for the "Watchmen" soundtrack, just to name a few.
But according to the band themselves, all of those achievements pale in comparison to their sprawling, spastic video for "Na Na Na". To hear them tell it, just making the clip was the biggest achievement of their entire career ... because it capped a long journey back from the brink.

Kanye West has been very generous with the music from his new album, but other than the two singles he's released so far, "Power" and "Runaway," 'Ye hasn't really given us much information on the disc.
We still don't have the album's official title, but Kanye did peel back one layer of his musical onion on Monday (October 4), when he confirmed that he'll be dropping the disc on November 22. Given West's proclivity for doing things his own way — including swathing the "Saturday Night Live" stage in all white sheets on Saturday — the off-cycle Monday release is not surprising.
"L.A. Reid who's doing a great job at Def Jam. We gone Kill it again on November 22nd!!!!!!!!!! Even with the leaks fam," Kanye tweeted on Monday.

For Those who were frustrated over the absence of the Watchmen Director's Cut in the UK, you can find peace and happiness again on Monday (November 30).
Paramount Home Entertainment is releasing the Watchmen (Two-Disc Director's Cut) (Cert 18, 178 mins) on Blu-ray here at last.
The Director's Cut came out in the USA in July and, having been too impatient to wait, I purchased it from the States a while back and can confirm it plays on UK Blu-ray machines.

I am not going to tell you that this movie is going to appeal to everyone, or even that 75% of people are going to “get it” but honestly, if you go see this movie with an open mind and no other preconceived notions of what a “comic book movie” should be, you will leave with a very big smile on your face. The movie is heavy, and will take a little while to digest it all, but rest assured you will.
Lets face it, someone that watches the trailer and expects this movie to be filled with nothing but superheroes saving the day and a ton of action aren’t going...

Chicago – Despite the serious problems I had with Zack Snyder’s “Watchmen,” it was a Blu-Ray and DVD title that I was highly anticipating. With the film’s detailed production level, lengthy running time, and broad scope, it would seem to be tailor-made for a loyal home audience. Whether you like the film or not, that audience is getting screwed.
DVD Rating: 2.0/5.0 Let’s leave aside for now any possible disagreement over the actual movie. We’ll get to that later. The DVD is undeniably, irrefutably, a place-holder. There is no way this is the final word on DVD and Blu-Ray on “Watchmen,” a film that has not only seen its share of controversy but also had secondary home releases to date, including “The Complete Motion Comic” and “Tales of the Black Freighter”.
Watchmen: Director’s Cut was released on DVD on July 21st, 2009.
