The 16th century literary classic Journey to the West is the mother of all Chinese fantasy. The mythological saga has spawned countless adaptations in various media across Asia and beyond, from the cult late ‘70s Japanese TV series to Peking Opera, videogames, graphic novels and a stage spectacle with a score by Blur frontman Damon Albarn and design elements by Gorillaz illustrator Jamie Hewlett.
Prominent among the innumerable film versions is the 2013 blockbuster Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons, directed by Stephen Chow. A similar livewire action-comedy energy infuses Netflix’s The Monkey King, a children’s animated feature based on the sprawling novel’s most popular strand, on which Chow serves as executive producer.
Following well-received originals like Klaus, Over the Moon, My Father’s Dragon, Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio and Richard Linklater’s Apollo 10 ½: A Space Age Childhood — plus such smart acquisitions as The Mitchells vs. the Machines...

"Beauty and the Beast" truly is a tale as old as time, and has been retold in countless ways, like the Ron Perlman and Linda Hamilton TV series of the same name, the Fran Drescher comedy "The Beautician and the Beast," the teen rom-drama "Beastly," or even in an episode of "Hello Kitty's Furry Tale Theater." Recently, legendary Japanese filmmaker Mamoru Hosoda delivered "Belle," a magnificent animated sci-fi fantasy film that thrusts the tale out of the world of old and into the techno future.
The story takes place in the not-so-distant future where the internet has evolved into a legitimate virtual reality called U, where avatars are created by users' scanned biometric information. A teenager named Suzu creates an avatar named Belle who becomes a pop superstar, but everything changes when her virtual concert is interrupted by the seemingly undefeatable fighter The Dragon (or "The Beast"), who she quickly becomes infatuated with.

Surprising to some, Batman and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have some commonalities. After all, the half-shell heroes were initially created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird as a parody of Frank Miller’s work on Daredevil, before coming to DC and turning his talents to The Dark Knight. Both properties work best in the shadows and had the producers of this animated adventure leaned into that, this could have been a cut above an obvious cash grab.
The participants have met before, in three miniseries from DC Comics and Idw in addition to one strictly set in their “Adventures” incarnations, aimed more at all-ages readers. Now, we have Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, a briskly paced story. It’s not bad, but boy, it could have been so much more had anyone made an effort.

Saw Gerrera will reappear in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, but where does the game fit in his story?
This article comes from Den of Geek UK.
EA showed the first gameplay footage from Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order at E3 2019, and it looked like a pretty fun experience. But the main takeaway for eagle-eyed Star Wars fans is that Saw Gerrera, the character played by Forest Whitaker in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, will appear in the game.
Where does this game fit into the wider Saw Gerrera story? After all, Gerrera has already appeared in Rogue One as well as The Clone Wars and Rebels animated series. If you're wondering which order is best for re-watching Saw's journey, you've come to the right place. Let's get cracking, then...

Something I’m enjoying seeing lately is animation catching up to the comic book realm when it comes to crossovers. In most instances, we’ve been forced to rely on the latter because it’s really been the only medium to get around red tape separating various franchises. But thanks to some of the top publishers out there, Batman has fought the Predator, Archie has had to survive a Sharknado, and the Ghostbusters will soon meet up with the Transformers.
Now, because of Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the acclaimed miniseries written by James Tynion IV and illustrated by Freddie Williams II has been adapted to film. Actually, before either version came along, the only way for these pop culture icons to cross paths was in our imaginations – and maybe sometimes with the help of action figures. Odds are that my six-year-old self probably concocted such a mashup back in the day.
But if I’m to be completely honest here, there’s a big difference in how I favor each part in this equation. While my affinity for Batman is well-documented, my Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle fandom didn’t follow me into adulthood. Regardless, I really dug the aforementioned comic on which the flick we’re here to discuss is based, so I went into my viewing experience rather excited.
Oddly enough, I wound up walking away with a different sentiment toward DC’s latest home video release. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate what it accomplished and don’t think it’s a bad movie by any means – it’s just that this seems like an instance when something worked better on the printed page.
Believe me, even though these concepts have some overlap on the Venn diagram, Batman and Tmnt are very different from one another when you get down to it. In fact, the simple idea that they originate from different universes was thrown out the window in the movie, as the Turtles and their foes take a road trip of sorts to Gotham City.

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has released a new clip from DC’s upcoming animated film Batman Vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The clip happens to be the opening scene of the movie and it focuses on the Ninja Turtles as they descend on Gotham City. As you might imagine, Batman is not happy upon hearing about these “lizard men” from Batgirl.
This clip features the Foot Clan descending “upon Powers Industrial, where Barbara Gordon, aka Batgirl (voiced by Crazy Ex-Girlfriend's producer/star Rachel Bloom) is getting a first-hand look at an extremely powerful generator.”
Here’s the synopsis for the film:
It’ll take the unlikely unification of the Dark Knight and the Heroes in a Half-shell to overcome the combined villainous forces afoot in Gotham City in the all-new, feature-length animated thriller.

The first trailer for Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has arrived, along with the reveal of it’s stacked voice cast as well as the film’s eventual home video release. Based on the six part comic crossover of the same name, the recently confirmed animated film looks to be a pretty close adaptation of it’s source material. There’s some pretty awesome moments in the trailer, so hopefully the final film will live up to the promise that this first look provides.
The all-star cast of Batman vs. Tmnt is led by Troy Baker as the voice of both Batman and the Joker – making Baker the first actor to ever play both roles in the same film. Opposite Baker are the Ninja Turtles themselves – Emmy Award/Golden Globe Award/SAG Award winner Darren Criss as Raphael, Kyle Mooney (Saturday Night Live) as Michelangelo, Baron Vaughn (Grace and Frankie) as Donatello,...

The Lion Guard is a somewhat surprisingly good show airing on Disney Junior, and the story of Kion and his friends continues with a new DVD release The Lion Guard: Unleash the Power.
The release is the first collection of episodes available on DVD, and it’s not only a good selection because these are episodes that focus on the individual members of the Guard, but because these are some of the series’ most rewatchable efforts.
The show is not just a fun adventure for kids, but the series takes on a broad range within its episodic content, tackling some tricky issues, without actually decoding its own efforts and bogging down in overt explanation.
For example, the episode Fuli’s New Family spans a variety of issues, but chief among them is an examination of the idea that just because doing something seems objectively “right,” or, “how friends act,...

“What will you do when they catch you? What will do if they break you? If you continue to fight, what will you become?” These are the questions asked by Saw Gerrera (Forest Whitaker) in the first trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. But unlike other new faces appearing in the next installment of the Star Wars universe — set before the events of A New Hope — we know Gerrera’s history. We know he’s not asking hypothetical questions to scare and prepare Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) for her dangerous mission. Saw Gerrera has already lived through one rebellion and audiences got to watch how it transformed him in the animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars. This makes Saw the first character from the new extended universe to make the hop to the live-action films. But it also means we can look back and find clues to Rogue...

Even though it was ten years between the Star Wars saga appearing on the big screen, the story continued on t.v. in many different iterations, with lots of fans taking for granted whether the events unfolding were part of the saga’s canon. Sure, Gennedy Tartakovsky’s 2D The Clone Wars led directly into Revenge of the Sith, but that was pretty much wiped from existence by the CG animated series of the same name, which incidentally started life in the cinema, and we are never given official word on how the events of the show tied into Star Wars as a whole. Until now. the upcoming issue of Entertainment Weekly features a massive write-up on Rogue One, revealing some neat details about the characters, including the identity of who Forrest Whitaker will be playing. Fresh from unveiling its new weekly cover along with individual character bios for the movie’s leading cast, Entertainment Weekly has lifted the lid on one mystery that has remained under lock and key all throughout production: the identity of Forest Whitaker’s character.
That’s Saw Gerrera, a Rebel extremist who first appeared in season 5 of The Clone Wars. Originally voiced by Andrew Kishino, Gerrera is a freedom fighter with a storied history that spans all across the galaxy, once fighting alongside an Anakin Skywalker on the verge of his transformation to the Dark Side.
