“Nightingale,” an action thriller set against the backdrop of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, has pulled the curtain back on its ensemble, casting “Special Ops: Lioness” and “1883” star Lamonica Garrett to lead the picture. Jason Patric, Andrew Howard and Daniel Bernhardt are also starring.

The picture comes from producers Isaac Lewis and Andrew Lewis of Denton Film. Low-budget staple William Kaufman is directing the feature, which recently wrapped principal photography in Bulgaria. Kaufman co-write the script with Paul Reichelt, who also serves as executive producer.

Garrett is best known for his roles on “Sons of Anarchy” and “Designated Survivor.” He stars in “Nightingale” as an American Special Forces Operator and private military contractor, who must balance tending to civilian lives while rescuing his adoptive daughter, who is kidnapped and taken hostage by Russian forces in Ukraine. Patric plays a CIA handler with a shared history with Garrett’s character.

In Hulu’s adaptation of the late Rebecca Godfrey’s true crime page-turner from 2005, Riley Keough plays the author who, along with a local police officer (Lily Gladstone), uncovers the mystery behind the death of Reena Kirk – a 14-year-old misfit who disappears after attending a party with kids who she thought were her friends.

The duo’s quest culminates in the eighth and final episode, “Mercy Alone,” written by the series’ showrunner Samir Mehta and directed by Kevin Phillips.

In the forward to his script, Mehta talks about the “pivotal true-to-life” scene in the finale that convinced him to tackle the true crime genre with Under The Bridge and explains why this is not really a story about a girl’s death.

Review: While crime exists worldwide, North America’s glut of true crime stories is centered on the United States. We often take for granted that our neighbors in the Great White North are more than America’s nice neighbors or denizens of the Fifty-First State. Canada is a massive country with its own good and bad, with crimes just as heinous as anything we see in America. While the events depicted in Under The Bridge are not as scary as serial killer tales, the story it retells is every bit as disturbing.

Hulu optioned Rebecca Godfrey’s Under the Bridge: The True Story of the Murder of Reena Virk back in 2022, and the limited series based on the bestseller is finally set to stream this month. Emmy nominee Riley Keough (Daisy Jones & The Six) stars as the late author of the 2005 true crime novel, and Oscar nominee Lily Gladstone (Killers of the Flower Moon) stars as a small town police officer intimately involved in the investigation.

Following its abrupt cancellation earlier this month due concerns over the coronavirus outbreak, SXSW on Tuesday announced the 2020 award winners for the 27th annual film festival.

After being forced to shut down a week before its scheduled March 13 kickoff, SXSW director of film Janet Pierson revealed alternative plans that included providing screening links to allow jurors to see and hand out awards to the fest’s competition films.

While no Audience Awards were handed out, Jury Awards were selected from the narrative feature and documentary feature competition categories as well as short films and other juried sections such as the Film Design award.

Normally, the SXSW Film Festival award winners are handed out during a lively ceremony at the end of the first weekend, but this year required some improvisation. When the SXSW became the first major film event to cancel in the face of global pandemic, it was unclear what would happen to the hundreds of films and filmmakers primed for the late March festivities.

While many filmmakers were left struggling to figure out their next moves, the festival’s leadership opted to hand out awards to the films set to premiere at the festival, with the juries announced weeks earlier. SXSW Director of Film Janet Pierson and her team made the decision to “continue and expand to all the juried competitions, if the majority of the filmmakers opted in and juries were available.”

For over twenty year, Lucas attempted to bring the amazing story of the courageous Tuskegee Airmen to the big screen. Having finally succeeded in moving ahead with the project as producer, all there was left to do was film the thing.

In the video, Wilds shares his experiences portraying Ray "Ray Gun" Gannon, a member of the all-black group of fighter pilots. For the film, Wilds pretended to fly a plane and sustain some serious-looking injuries, but what he couldn't fake, a partial parachute jump, took a little more effort.

Musical movie Mama, I Want To Sing is based on the off-Broadway hit play by Vy Higginsen.

As the end of the year approaches, the release of George Lucas' decades-in-development pet project draws closer and closer. The third trailer for "Red Tails" once again previews the heroic story of the Tuskegee Airmen and their fight for a chance to defend their country against the Nazis.

Lucas started his own fight to get the film about the African-American airmen to the big screen all the way back in 1988. Now he will only have to wait until January 20 when "Red Tails" finally hits theaters.

The new trailer focuses on Col. A.J. Bullard, played in the film by Academy Award nominee Terrence Howard, and one of his big speeches from the film, delivered to Bryan Cranston as Col. William Mortamus.

The cast of "Red Tails" also features Cuba Gooding Jr., David Oyelowo, Kevin Phillips, Nate Parker, Daniela Ruah and Michael B. Jordan.

George Lucas is betting $93 million of his own money that his new movie “Red Tails” will be a hit.
