Sex Education‘s Aimee Lou Wood’s BBC romantic comedy series Film Club has built out cast.
She is penning Film Club with Ralph Davis (House of the Dragon), who is also starring in the show, and added to the cast are Suranne Jones and Nabhaan Rizwan, whose Netflix drama Kaos was recently cancelled. Adam Long and Liv Hill are also starring.

Renegade Nell was a “chance to reimagine what a Disney hero is.” So says director Ben Taylor, who directs and executive produces the Disney original series created by Sally Wainwright. Taylor, known for Sex Education and Catastrophe, says Louisa Harland‘s ass-kicking Nell Jackson “makes absolute sense as the third part of that triangle” made up of powerful female characters created by Wainwright, such as Happy Valley‘s Catherine Cawood (Sarah Lancashire) and Gentleman Jack‘s Anne Lister (Suranne Jones). In the eight-episode Renegade Nell, Nell Jackson, a quick-witted and courageous young woman, finds herself framed for murder and unexpectedly becomes the most notorious outlaw in 18th-century England. But when a magical spirit called Billy Blind (Ted Lasso‘s Nick Mohammed) appears, Nell realizes her destiny is bigger than she ever imagined. The cool, and occasionally inconvenient, thing about Nell’s powers is that they activate when she’s in danger.

Selena Gomez has seen her “Only Murders in the Building” co-stars and guest stars get nominated for and win Emmys the past two years while she sat on the sidelines. Will the third time finally be the charm? She’s currently in fifth place in the Best Comedy Actress odds. Given her previous snubs, you’d be justified to doubt her chances, but we’ve been through this before with a twice snubbed actress-singer who pulled through on her third try under very similar circumstances: Mandy Moore.

In 2017, it earned 10 Emmy nominations for its freshman installment, including Best Drama Series and seven acting bids — but not for Moore in Best Drama Actress. Exclusive: At the 2021 Edinburgh TV Festival, the BBC and Netflix unveiled what the pair described as a landmark five-year disability partnership that would unearth a new generation of shows helmed by disabled talent.
But more than half of the partnership’s five-year time period has now elapsed and not one show has been revealed.
In recent months, sources from the UK drama and disabled TV communities have begun questioning the partnership, getting in touch with Deadline unprompted to query why a tie-up that was unveiled with such fanfare has so far failed to bear fruit.
“It’s slightly bizarre,” said one professional connected with disability programs. “I’ve heard nothing from anyone to be honest. No one can get a definitive answer.”
The partnership came in the wake of a blistering Edinburgh TV Festival MacTaggart broadside from Help writer Jack Thorne, who slammed the UK TV industry for “totally and utterly” failing disabled people.

Cancelled Netflix sci-fi thriller The Mothership was “full of mystery and threat” and had “the makings of a classic,” its storyboard artist tells us.
In January, news broke that Netflix had made the decision to scrap The Mothership – a sci-fi thriller starring Halle Berry that had been shot and was initially scheduled for release in 2023.
To date, the only official comment we’ve heard from Netflix came from interim content boss Bela Bajaria, who at a press event in February said there were “lots of issues during production, and so everybody just felt like it was the right thing to… do something else together eventually.”
The decision to abandon a relatively high-profile movie with some Oscar-winning talent attached is unusual – Bajara herself admitted that the situation was “rare” – though not unheard of. Over the past year, Warner Bros has infamously scrapped the likes of Batgirl, Scoob! 2 and Coyote Vs Acme.

Things are looking up for Detective Chief Inspector Amy Silva and her Scottish police (and romantic) partner Kirsten Longacre in Vigil Season 2, premiering February 15 on Peacock. Instead of trying to solve a murder among the sailors within the confines of a nuclear submarine, as they did in the first season of the hit U.K. thriller, the two women, played by Gentleman Jack’s Suranne Jones and Game of Thrones’ Rose Leslie, are now investigating a case within the Royal Air Force—on land. In the six-episode season, a prototype combat drone has been compromised, killing several soldiers during a demonstration. The investigation takes Silva to the Persian Gulf, where a wider conspiracy is discovered. The series filmed in Scotland and Morocco, and according to executive producer Jake Lushington, while people may initially miss the submarine, “hopefully it won’t take long before our action-packed opening throws them headlong into this different mystery and territory.

Halle Berry Goes Down With The Mothership
It didn’t set off nearly the online uproar as did Warner Bros.’ decision to dynamite its $70 million Coyote vs. Acme action-animation hybrid, but another high-profile movie was recently, much more quietly, dumped. Netflix has grounded The Mothership, a Halle Berry sci-fi thriller directed by Oscar-nominated Bridge of Spies co-writer Matt Charman. The $40 million project started filming during the pandemic in 2021 and ran into one snafu after another — scheduling conflicts, reshoots, strikes and, most recently, continuity issues brought on by growth spurts among some of the children in its cast. During a Jan. 31 news conference, Netflix content chief Bela Bajaria cited “lots of production issues and story issues” for shelving the movie and insisted that “everybody just felt like it was the right thing to just not do it.” A source tells THR, however, that there may have been another reason Mothership got axed: Its biggest champion,...

Nigel Farage failed in his quest to win I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! last night as he finished third in the final of the ITV juggernaut, which saw viewing decline dramatically from last year’s closer.
Farage equalled former Health Secretary Matt Hancock’s finish last year, as ITV’s penchant for throwing controversial politicians into the jungle continued into 2023.
But the show lost a whopping 4M viewers from last year’s finale, tumbling to just 6.5M with a share of 42%, peaking with 7.5M. The show failed to even top the daily charts behind the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing results show. In 2022, 10.4M (54.2%) watched the final when footballer Jill Scott took home the crown. That ep peaked with 11.5M during a top-rated season. The launch of 2022 was also well up on 2023, by around 2M, although Gb News producer Ben Leo accidentally tweeted otherwise three weeks ago.

Warning: contains spoilers for Vigil series one.
Dci Amy Silva is back! Even if most people would have quit Police Scotland and retrained as a florist the moment we hit dry land after what happened on board nuclear submarine Hms Vigil, Silva is not most people.
In Vigil series two, Silva is taking on a different branch of the British Armed Forces – the Royal Air Force. When a brutal incident occurs at a Scottish air base, Silva is drafted in to kick ass and take names. And seeing as it’s now over two years since the first series aired on BBC One, here’s a brief reminder of where Silva, her step-daughter Poppy, her partner Kirsten Longacre and their last case were left.

Between Christmas specials and twinkly festive ads, TV can get cloying at this time of year. What’s needed to cut through the Baileys truffle eggnog of it all is a show from the ice-cold ‘Send a Team to the Perimeter’ genre. Action! Intrigue! Explosions! Cliff-hangers! A formula that keeps us alert while while the rest of the season gently cosies us to sleep.
Vigil is exactly that show. Airing on consecutive nights and available to stream in three-episode chunks released a week apart, it’s a shot in the arm for the Christmas TV schedule and makes a solid binge-watch.

It’s straight in at the deep end with Bertie Carvel. He appears over Zoom from the Hampstead house he grew up in, which he moved back into with his wife during the pandemic. That must have provided some comfort in uncertain times, I proffer. He tilts his head sideways. “Well, it was distressing in some ways, because we moved back here because my mum had passed away.” Oh, right. “It was a lot to encounter all of your history in that way, but amazing, too.” Around the same time, Carvel’s son was born. “I was looking back over my life as he was starting his,” he says. “It was sort...
