Blumes Tracy is a leading Special Effects executive in the film and television business. He is highly-regarded as one of the most experienced, efficient Special Effects supervisors as well as a very skilled pyro-technician.
As Department Head of Special Effects, Prop Shop, Vacuumform, and Manufacturing at Paramount Pictures (August 2014 - September 2019), Blumes led the department where his primary responsibilities included: offering creative solutions to a myriad cinematically complex problems, providing Special Effects production support to clients on and off lot while also supporting all facilities to the other departments on the lot.
In his five years at Paramount, Blumes played an instrumental role in resurrecting the Special Effects Department, generating immense growth and profit while also providing best-in-class on and off-lot effects support to ABC, NBC, CBS, Netflix, FOX, HBO, Showtime, Amazon, Hulu and Paramount Television.
During his 30+ year career in the industry, Blumes has worked on some of the largest, most technically and logistically challenging film and TV productions to date. A small sampling of his groundbreaking work includes: Interview with the Vampire (he was among the first to ever film a controlled burn (open flame) inside the French Quarter: New Orleans, Louisiana); he was among the first to ever film in the Burj Khalifa (the world's tallest building) in Dubai on Mission Impossible: IV while assisting Tom Cruise hanging out of the window some 80 stories above ground; for Interstellar, Blumes and the Special Effects team designed and built the 1/5th scale and 1/15th scale miniatures which were integral to the Oscar winning film's climax. These types of complex practical effects continue to be regarded as superior in the industry and most artists (directors and producers) prefer to work with Special Effects experts because they bring a depth and nuance that cannot be duplicated by Visual Effects.
Prior to joining Paramount, Blumes worked on many of the biggest action and effects-heavy features of all time including: Star Trek Into Darkness, Terminator IV, GI Joe I and GI Joe II. He's also played Special Effects roles on award-winning films such as Lincoln, Inception, Interstellar and Zero Dark Thirty.
Blumes belongs to a small pool of people in Southern California that hold all of the proper licenses and credentials necessary to execute all special effects requests on any given project. Blumes' company, Imagine That Enterprises Inc., is set to expand in October 2019.
Blumes was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and currently resides in Los Angeles. He has a daughter and a son.
