Nikolai Timofeev was a Russian actor at Vakhtangov Theatre in Moscow.
He was born Nikolai Dmitriyevich Timofeev on December 26, 1921, in Baku, Russia (now Baku, Azerbaijan). During the Second World War he served in the Red Army. From 1945 - 1950 he studied acting at the Shchukin Thearical School of Vakhtangov Theatre in Moscow, graduating in 1950 as an actor.
From 1950 to 1999 Nikolai Timofeev was a permanent member of the troupe at Vakhtangov Theatre in Moscow. There his stage partners were such actors as Mikhail Ulyanov, Ruben Simonov, Boris Zakhava, Mikhail Astangov, Vladimir Etush, Varvara Popova, Irina Kupchenko, Natalya Tenyakova, Yuliya Borisova, Lyudmila Maksakova, Lyudmila Tselikovskaya, Marianna Vertinskaya, Nina Ruslanova, Nikolai Gritsenko, Andrei Abrikosov, Grigori Abrikosov, Boris Babochkin, Nikolai Plotnikov, Vasiliy Lanovoy, Yuriy Yakovlev, Vyacheslav Shalevich, Aleksandr Grave, and Evgeniy Karelskikh, among others.
Nikolai Timofeev was designated People's Actor of Russia, and was awarded the State Prize of the USSR. Outside of his stage and film career, he also made notable recordings of Russian and Soviet literature on the Moscow Radio. Nikolai Timofeev died of a heart failure on September 25, 1999, in Moscow, Russia, and was laid to rest in Kuntsevskoe Cemetery in Moscow, Russia.
