This month marks 50 years since Bruce Lee’s sudden death at the age of 32, and likewise the semicentennial anniversary of his highest-profile feature, Enter the Dragon. Released by Warner Bros. on Aug. 17, 1973, director Robert Clouse’s action film stars Lee as a Shaolin monk recruited by British intelligence to compete in a martial arts tournament and track down a crime boss named Han (Shih Kien). The stakes are raised when Lee learns that the man who killed his sister is working as a bodyguard for Han.
Before Enter the Dragon, Lee was known for playing Kato on the 1960s ABC series The Green Hornet and Batman, and for starring in several kung fu films in the early 1970s, including The Big Boss (1971) and Fist of Fury (1972). But it was Dragon — his second Hollywood movie after a small role in 1969’s James Garner-led Marlowe — that became his signature title and made him a global icon.

One of the biggest martial arts epics ever filmed stars Bruce Lee as Lee, a karate master hired by British agents to infiltrate the island fortress of criminal mastermind Han (Shih Kien) during a deadly combat tournament. Lee's final completed film (although released before "Return of the Dragon") also stars John Saxon, Jim Kelly, Ahna Capri, and Bolo Yeung; look quickly for a young Jackie Chan.
Bruce Lee explodes onto the screen in the film that rocketed him to international superstardom, Enter The Dragon. Recruited by an intelligence agency, martial arts student Lee(Lee--Fists of Fury, The Chinese Connection) participates in a brutal tournament at a remote island fortress in an attempt to...

(Welcome to Best Action Scene Ever, a column dedicated to breaking down the best, most effective action sequences throughout the genre. In this edition, we're breaking down the go-for-broke climax of "Enter the Dragon.")
So far, we've kept the focus of this column on the relatively recent past to highlight some of the most groundbreaking, visually inventive action sequences that filmmakers have innovated — thanks in large part, no doubt, to the wealth of inspirations throughout the decades that they were able to pull from. But what about the classics that practically invented the playbook in the first place? In this week's edition, we're taking things back to the '70s to give credit where it's due and pay homage to arguably the most influential martial arts movie of them all.

Exclusive: Hot off Deadpool 2, David Leitch is in early talks to direct Enter the Dragon, the remake of the 1973 martial arts classic that cemented Bruce Lee’s iconic status. The original was a global hit out of Hong Kong, but its release was marked with tragedy as it came right after Lee’s death. The 45th anniversary of his death on July 20, 1973 was last Friday. They will now set a writer.
In Enter the Dragon, a Shaolin martial artist is pressed to enter a karate tournament on the island owned by the secretive Han, who is suspected of using the gathering as a way to smuggle drugs around the world. The protagonist has his own motivation: revenge. He learns that his sister fought for her life and ultimately killed herself on Han’s island, rather than succumb to rape by a group of Han’s thugs.

Ahead of American Ultra's arrival in UK cinemas, here's our pick of the 25 finest, sneakiest secret agents in film...
Operatives. Spies. Moles. Infiltrators. Secret agents go by many names. In fact, Britain's national security agency doesn't even call them agents - they're covert human intelligence sources, or simply “officers".
Whatever we choose to call them, secret agents lead necessarily furtive and obscure lives - so obscure that most of what we know about them is defined by what we've seen and read in books and movies.
During the Cold War, the image of the secret agent as a well-groomed sophisticate in a suit proliferated all over the world, and even in the high-tech landscape of the 21st century, that image still stands - just look at such movies as Kingsman: The Secret Service, The Man From U.N.C.L.E. and, of course, the Bond franchise. But secret agents can come in many other guises,...

When it comes to making features like this one, i love the idea of coming up with my own personal “100 Great Kung Fu Movies” of all time. It is tough choosing just 100 because you know there are many more great Kung Fu movies that are not on the list.
I understand everyone will have their own personal favorites and some may not agree with my list and that’s fine because it’s nice to have different opinions on this genre which keeps it fresh and alive when having good debates.
Anyway, thank you for taking time to have a look at my 100 Great Kung Fu movie list and feel free to add any movies in the comment box if they don’t make my list (I have probably forgotten many movies).

I have decided that to make the list, a movie must have a few hand to hand moments during fight scenes in the movies chosen. If for example its mainly sword play with one fight scene hand to hand it won’t make the list. Its old school “style” Kung Fu movies, not modern day settings.

From early Bond to 21st century sci-fi, here's Ryan's pick of 11 unforgettable villain pairings from action cinema history...
You're generally lucky if a movie has one genuinely great villain in it, let alone two. This is probably because creating a villain takes great acting and writing - it's one thing to create a preening character who stomps around a story doing unpleasant things, but creating a villain who's three-dimensional, witty, scary and above all memorable requires considerable skill.
Every so often, a movie comes along which gives us not one, but two classic villains, with the personality of one complementing the other. A familiar dynamic was once laid out by Steven Spielberg: one is smart and eloquent , while the other is the tougher, more violent of the pair. It's a template that we've seen time and again in cinema, but it's only occasionally that both characters leap from the screen.

Enter the Dragon
Written by Michael Allin and Bruce Lee
Directed by Robert Clouse and Bruce Lee (uncredited)
USA and Hong Kong, 1973
For most people, Enter the Dragon is a quintessential action film. The first Chinese martial arts film co-produced in Hollywood, it launched the genre, not to mention its late leading man Bruce Lee, to Western audiences. Not only does it compass elements of a thriller and an action film, but it is also culturally relevant.
Shaolin member Lee (Bruce Lee) is invited to a competition against other martial artists organised by Han (Shih Kien), a mysterious man who is being investigated by British Intelligence for drug trafficking and prostitution. While other competitors such as Roper (John Saxon) and Williams (Jim Kelly) are respectively evading the mob and the law, Lee participates to regain the honour of the Shaolin temple and seek revenge for his sister’s death.

Hey all, it's Tim. The twin altars of worship at The Film Experience are Actresses and the Oscars, but I hope you’ll forgive me if I take a moment to go as far as possible in the opposite direction from either of those points, all the way to the land of grind houses and the classic age of chop socky martial arts film. For this weekend marks the fortieth anniversary of the U.S. release of the iconic Bruce Lee vehicle Enter the Dragon, and with the imminent North American debut of Wong Kar-wai’s The Grandmaster, the story “of the man who trained Bruce Lee”, as the ads insistently proclaim, it seems the ideal moment to visit a legendary film that, to my shame, I had never seen before.
Stories don’t get a whole lot more basic: Han (Shih Kien) the shadowy crimelord owner of an island...

★★★★★ If Bruce Lee hadn't passed away a week before the Us release of Enter the Dragon (1973), Robert Clouse's martial arts masterpiece may well have been regarded as nothing more than a taste of things to come. As it is, Enter the Dragon was the only opportunity we got to see the great man in a genuine Hollywood picture and the film, like Lee himself, has transcended critical appraisal. Flaws have become virtues and 40 years of imitation, parody and homage have blurred the line between truth and legend. Bruce plays Lee, a Chinese super spy sent by British intelligence to investigate a suspected drug trafficker.

Karate ace and actor, who starred in the martial arts hit opposite Bruce Lee, had been suffering from cancer
The martial artist and actor Jim Kelly, best known for his nonchalant turn in the Bruce Lee film Enter the Dragon, has died at the age of 67.
After making a name for himself on the karate circuit by winning four tournaments in 1971, Kelly was picked to star in the martial arts classic two years later. He plays the arrogant, insouciant Williams, who competes alongside Lee in a sinister competition organised by the mysterious Mr Han on a James Bond-style island. Kelly's impressive afro, sideburns and good looks made him the perfect choice for a film shot at the height of blaxploitation.
Kelly has since become a huge cult figure, though his acting career never quite took off despite a good deal of success in similar 1970s fare. Appearances in films such as Black Belt Jones,...

In the realm of Martial Arts movies, Enter the Dragon is as classic a movie as Casablanca or Citizen Kane. I’m sure that will make some movie aficionados scream balderdash, but for genre fans such is the case. The movie captures the ideals and philosophy the late Bruce Lee developed in founding his unique Martial Art style, Jeet Kune Do. As Lee says in the movie, “You can call it the art of fighting without fighting.” Now celebrating its 40th Anniversary, Enter the Dragon remains a staple film in both the Action and Kung-Fu flick genres.
In Enter the Dragon, Lee agrees to go attend a Martial Arts tournament hosted by Han (Kien Shih), a former student of the Shaolin temple where Lee trained. When Han left the Shaolin temple, he used the teachings to start a worldwide syndicate of corruption. It actually sounds funny writing Han’s character description.

Bruce Lee’s most famous film was remastered for the Enter the Dragon 40th Anniversary Ultimate Collector’s Edition Giftset.
The 1973 movie helped bring interest in Asian martial arts to mainstream Western cinema. What can you say about Bruce Lee’s 1973 martial arts flick “Enter the Dragon” except that it’s still a really, really good martial arts movie 40 years later. Who knew how many other great movies Lee could have made if not for his sudden passing, but at least he got to shine really bright in “Enter the Dragon”, which Warner Bros. Home Entertainment is re-releasing as a 40th Anniversary Ultimate Collector’s Edition giftset this June 11 on Blu-ray. The plot of the Enter the Dragon revolves around outstanding martial arts student Lee (Bruce Lee), who is recruited by an intelligence agency and then uncovers the evil Han’s (Kien Shih) white slavery and drug trafficking ring located on a secret island fortress. Along with martial arts champions Roper (John Saxon) and Williams (Jim Kelly), Lee infiltrates the stronghold and enters Han’s brutal tournament. Lee and his partners fuse skills in Karate,...

This is my top 10 favorite kickers in Kung Fu cinema. It is just my personal opinion as there are many great performers out there with amazing ability also. I hope everyone likes my top 10 and please feel free to leave comments at the bottom of the page.
10.Jean Claude Van Damme
Jean Claude is one of the best kickers i have seen out of the Asian movie market. His jumping spin kicks are brilliant, hitting with speed and power, which would take anyone’s head off. Van Damme was also a former member of the Belgium Team that won the European Championships in 1979 in Brussels.
Some of Van Dammes best kicking skills can be watched in movies such as No Retreat, No Surrender, Bloodsport, Kickboxer, Lionheart, Double Impact, The Quest and so on. He recently starred as the main villain in The Expendables 2, which he did a great job,...

Cast:Chow Yun Fat, Cecilia Yip Tung, Alex Man, Sek Kin
Director:Leong Po Chih
Action:Hung Ga Ban, Lam Ching Ying
Genre:Drama / War
This was my first viewing of Hong Kong 1941, starring the brilliant Chow Yun fat in a great movie about Friendship, Loyalty and struggle to over come the invasion of the Japanese soldiers. This is a great movie from start to finish, it had me engaged not only with the brutal story, but every character gives 100% and Director Leong Po Chih does a terrific job.
The movie starts with the British soldiers, women and children leaving Hong Kong as anytime the Japanese will invade and they realize they are to strong at the time, so leave for Australia. The movie is centered around three friends Chow Yun Fat, Alex Man and Cecilia Yp who build a friendship to one day escape Hong Kong and head to the “Gold Mountain” for a better life.
