NBCU’s streaming service Peacock is expanding MSNBC content, announcing a renamed channel as well as future programming headlined by Mika Brzezinski, Michael Beschloss And Nicolle Wallace.

MSNBC President Rashida Jones signaled the plans in a note to staffers earlier this week marking the cable news network’s 25th anniversary.

Peacock’s The Choice will be renamed The Choice from MSNBC, with the addition of MSNBC Perspectives, an hourlong highlight show that starts on Thursday. It will feature clips from MSNBC programming and personalities.

Also coming in August will be The Washington Post’s First Look with Jonathan Capehart, in which the columnist and MSNBC host will moderate a debrief and roundtable featuring Post talent as well as newsmakers. Capehart hosts MSNBC’s The Sunday Show and also is an editorial board member of the Post.

Golf Digest, a publication not widely known for investigative journalism, is being credited with helping to overturn the wrongful murder conviction of an innocent man.

On Wednesday, Valentino Dixon, 48, gained his freedom in a Buffalo, N.Y., courtroom after 27 years behind bars for a crime that prosecutors now say he did not commit.

“They were kind of the first stone that started rolling down a hill as far as reinvestigation of the case,” Donald M. Thompson, an attorney who represented Dixon for 20 years, told TheWrap on Thursday. “They kind of started the avalanche here.”

CNN has suspended pro-Trump contributor Paris Dennard after the Washington Post published a sexual misconduct accusation stemming from his time working at Arizona State University in 2014.

“We are aware of reports of accusations against Paris Dennard. We are suspending Paris, effective immediately, while ‎we look into the allegations,” a CNN spokesperson told TheWrap late Wednesday evening.

According to the Post, Dennard was ousted from the school’s McCain Institute for International Leadership after an internal investigation after a former student accused Dennard of pressing her for sex.

I’m still in shock. Who on earth would have believed that Disney would fire Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director James Gunn? After all, the man took a bunch of D-list comic book characters and turned them into a billion dollar franchise and was on the cusp of shooting the hugely anticipated third installment.

His removal was reportedly the result of the filmmaker calling out Pizza-Gate conspiracy theorist Jack Posobiec on Twitter. In revenge, Posobiec and white supremacist Mike Cernovich scoured Gunn’s Twitter history, found some dirt and began a campaign aimed at Disney designed to punish Gunn for disrespecting them and President Trump.

Right-wing provocateur Mike Cernovich claimed another scalp online Friday when Disney fired James Gunn from its “Guardians of the Galaxy” series because of old tweets that Cernovich helped publicize.

Disney made the decision after an organized internet campaign centered around old jokes Gunn made about rape and pedophilia. In a statement, Disney called the posts “indefensible.”

Just hours earlier, Cernovich had helped promote a campaign targeting USA Today columnist Cheri Jacobus, after she posted a bizarre tweet about convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

In both cases, Cernovich wasn’t the first to find the offending content, but provided an online megaphone that amplified it.

USA has dropped columnist Cheri Jacobus after the the political strategist and frequent TV pundit insulted Republican consultant and Trump ally Michael Caputo’s daughters and suggested that they be used at “parties” by convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

“Our editors in the opinion section became aware of the tweet by freelance columnist Cheri Jacobus just after noon today,” a spokesperson for the company told TheWrap Thursday evening.

“An hour later after researching the issue, our editors let Jacobus know that she would no longer be writing for USA Today,” the spokesperson added. “We have asked her to remove the USA Today affiliation from her bio.”

The Los Angeles Times on Friday parted ways with freelancer Perry Fein, who sent conservative provocateur Mike Cernovich a profanity-laced direct message over Twitter.

“The direct message to Mike Cernovich was sent by a freelance writer who recently contributed to community publications owned by the Los Angeles Times. The Times requires freelancers to uphold the same standards of professionalism as members of the staff,” the Times said in a tweet.

“These actions violated those professional standards and we are ending our relationship with the freelancer.”

After drawing attention to the festival’s annual Gaming Awards, organizers behind the South by Southwest Film Festival have posted the full, comprehensive lineup, revealing that the likes of Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver and Free Fire, the riotous ensemble thriller from Ben Wheatley, are among those films that will screen for critics and attendees.

The Young Turks, which operates its own eponymous multi-channel network called Tyt Network, has added another show to its roster: The Bill Press Show. The progressive show broadcasts daily from Capitol Hill, and marks a bid by The Young Turks, which bills itself as the largest millennial-focused online news and politics network, to expand its presence in Washington, D.C.

Other creators signed to Tyt Network include The Richard Fowler Show, Secular Talk, and The Majority Report With Sam Seder. Tyt Network provides marketing and promotional aid to partners, as well as help with back-end YouTube functionalities, and also fosters collaboration among its creators.

NBC and CNN have both reportedly expressed interest in a Us version of Have I Got News For You.

Cable network TBS previously filmed an unbroadcast pilot for the American series, with stand-up comic Sherrod Small as one of two team captains.

Small told a fan on Twitter that he is unaware of whether TBS plans to pick up the pilot, but claimed that other networks have since expressed an interest in the project.

"Last I heard NBC and CNN are really interested too, so we will see," he wrote. "I'm ready to start taping!"

Us comedian Sam Seder took the role of host in the pilot, with Michael Ian Black as Small's rival team captain.

The UK version of the panel show, with Paul Merton and Ian Hislop as team captains, has been aired by the BBC since it launched in 1990.

BreakRoom Live with Maron & Seder brings the sharp-witted and informed newsstand conversation of yesteryear to the web today, and five days a week at 3pm Est. Remember Air America Radio? Remember radio? Well after video killed the radio stars Air America Media buried some bodies and sat Marc Maron and Sam Seder in their break room and started breaking new ground. The show mostly consists of Marc and Sam comically battling and boiling down hot topics and politics, bouncing subjects off guests like Janeane Garofalo, and batting out the occasional sketch or rant. All followed by the post show chat with the online audience.

We talked to Rob Barnett to find how Pilot Season is being repackaged from the original six episodes into a thirty episode web series and we grilled him for details about running a damn good new media platform.
