Michael Petak was born in 1963. While in high school Michael
was the lead singer and playing the guitar in a band that played
at local parties and anywhere else they could. At this point his
band played cover music but were gaining popularity.
He then attended the University of Southern California (USC) where he received his degree in the Recording Arts in 1986. His band in college was called Clockwork which was produced by Michael himself into a demo tape. That demo tape was never released. But several of its songs and many new ones were released under the band name of Carnival Art entitled "Thrumdrone" in 1990.
After graduation from USC Michael was hired by A&M Records into the recording department. This gave Michael limited access to their recording equipment which allowed him to stop producing his music out of his apartment. He left A&M when his band, Carnival Art, signed a record deal with Beggars Banquet in 1990. They released 3 albums. Thrumdrone, Holy Smokes and Welcome to Vas Llegas.
After the band broke up in 1993 Michael signed a deal with Slash Records in 1994 and released a solo album, produced with T Bone Burnett, entitled "Pretty Little Lonely". The 1994 release of the album included a video which chronicled a wild road trip with his band and his treasured dog, Diggity, who is also featured in the album art. While the album was well received critically, it had limited success on the market. .
In the early 2000's he reappeared in the music industry. He is now working behind the scenes in the television industry. He is completing recording, supervision, and dialogue editing for children's cartoons on Nickelodeon with which he has had major success and has won Grammy awards for his work.
