Veronica Carlson, the British actress and Hammer Horror Films star of such 1960s favorites as Dracula Has Risen from the Grave and Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed, died Feb. 27 of natural causes at her home in Bluffton, South Carolina. She was 77.
Her death was announced on her official Facebook page and by Hammer Horror Films. “A true Hammer legend and we loved her,” Hammer tweeted.
Born in Yorkshire, England, Carlson was a model when she began her acting career with uncredited or small roles in several 1967 films including Casino Royale. When producer and Hammer Films co-founder James Carreras saw a newspaper photo of Carlson wearing a bikini, he offered her the role opposite Christopher Lee in Dracula Has Risen from the Grave (1968). Her performance as the vampire’s intended victim was the first of her trio of popular Hammer movies, and was followed in 1969 by Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed starring Peter Cushing...

Dracula and Van Helsing seem more than a little confused, fighting the good fight of virtue against evil in a modern setting dominated by painful Mod fashions and flaky pop rock ‘n’ roll. Hammer’s desperation bid to make itself ‘relevant’ at least gives us Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee, who keep the show on the rails despite the disastrous concept. The two leading ladies are favorites as well.

Villains have always been and will always be some of the most fascinating and memorable characters in the world of genre film. Here we will take a look at the greatest villains of cinema from the 1990’s.
The criteria for this article is the same as in my previous articles Cinema’s Greatest Villains: The 1970’s and Cinema’s Greatest Villains: The 1980’s: the villains must be from live-action films-no animated features-and must pose some type of direct of indirect lethal threat. The villains can either be individuals or small groups that act as one unit.
The villains must be human or human in appearance. Also, individuals that are the central protagonists/antiheroes of their respective films were excluded.
Brad Dourif as The Gemini Killer in The Exorcist III (William Peter Blatty, 1990): Veteran actor Dourif is intense and unforgettable as an executed murderer inhabiting someone else’s body in...

Hellbound (1994) Director: Aaron Norris Stars: Chuck Norris, Calvin Levels, Christopher Neame Chuck Norris vs. Satan! Okay, technically Chuck Norris doesn't fight the Devil himself in Hellbound. But that's one of the funnier things about this 1994 movie from Cannon Films (producers of Norris classics like Missing In Action and Delta Force). Why they didn't just go for broke and have the Bearded One take on Ol' Scratch is beyond me. I'm sure plenty of fans of justice...

"Shada. Shaaadaaahhh. Shaaaaaahhhhdaaaaahhhh....."
So remembers Big Tom about a story called, um Shada. But what's this I hear you cry? A Doctor Who review that never made it to screen?
Well, it was planned and part made to go to screen, to be transmitted between January and February 1980. An ambitious script by Douglas "Friend Of Lalla Ward" Adams started to go before the cameras in October 1979. The cast and crew went down to Cambridge for hi-jinks at the university, punting on the Cam, riding bicycles and tripping over red carpets. The story even got a studio session in early November 1979, during which a number of significant scenes got recorded.
And then the axe fell. Doctor Who had been lucky with the BBC strikes in the last two years. The Invasion Of Time had been affected by studio strikes, but remedied the problem by filming on location. The Armageddon Factor got affected too,...

British filmmaker Ronald Neame, whose career dates back to serving as assistant cameraman on the first feature film made with sound in Great Britain, Alfred Hitchcock's "Blackmail," has died, according to reports. He was 99.
No details were available.
His directing credits ranged from "The Poseidon Adventure" (1972) to "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie" (1969), for which Maggie Smith won the Oscar for best actress.
As a producer, Neame was involved with three British classics: "Brief Encounter" (1945), "Great Expectations" (1946) and "Oliver Twist" (1948). "Brief Encounter" and "Great Expectations" were the fruition of a production partnership called Cineguild that Neame had formed with David Lean and Anthony Havelock-Allan.
As a screenwriter, Neame earned Oscar nominations for the screenplays of "Brief," adapted from a Noel Coward play, and "Expectations," from Charles Dickens' novel. He shared those distinctions with Lean and Havelock-Allan.
Cineguild broke up in 1947 with a fall-out between Neame and Lean when...
