It’s time for the punks to meet the godfathers. The creators of SopranosCon merged with MobMovieCon for a family celebration. The 2019 SopranosCon drew thousands of fans from as far as The Netherlands and the United Kingdom to the Meadowlands Exposition Center in Secaucus. Directed by Max Bartoli and Fabiola Lopez Batoli, "The Secret of Joy" is a $500K short project created to support the cause of pediatric cancer. Their noble endeavor inspired a great number of talented industry people to get on board as part of the production, and after lots of passionate work they are finally ready to share with audiences in hopes that it will not only raise awareness, but also tangible funds to be donated to the Kids’ Cancer Research Foundation.
Director Max Bartoli talks more in depth about this project below:
Cancer has unfortunately already touched my family too many times, and more recently two couple of friends lost their 4 y.o and 5 y.o. children to neuroblastoma a few months apart, thus motivating me to do something to raise awareness and funds to support the battle against this terrible disease. It is with this in mind that my wife and I decided to invest all our savings to produce "The Secret of Joy," a project made of a 12-minute short, a book and a song, three products which will be donated non-exclusively to the Kids’ Cancer Research Foundation (www.endkidscancer.org) and to three European hospitals as extra tools to raise the awareness over this topic and fundraise during their future campaigns.
When we talked about this project to our friends in Hollywood we received enthusiastic reactions. A 35-people-cast, led by 4 times Emmy winner Doris Roberts ("Everybody Loves Raymond," "Remington Steele," "Christmas Vacation"), Maria Conchita Alonso ("The Running Man," "Saints & Sinners," "The House of the Spirits") and Sofia Milos ("CSI Miami"), and a 65-people-crew from 3 continents led by super talented Production Designer Giles Masters ("Angels and Demons," "The Mummy," "The Da Vinci Code") accepted to bring our story to life for free.
Shot last December in Los Angeles, "The Secret of Joy" has become in 6 months the Act Of Love of over 150 entertainment professionals and several companies (Technicolor, Red, Cameras, Hammerhead Productions., Tirelli Costumes and many others) whose contribution amounted to over $450,000 (four hundred and fifty thousand dollars), all united by the desire to support a cause which involves our children, our future and still seems to have been forgotten by the media and the audience.
This to demonstrate, if it was needed, that Hollywood often gives more than what it takes. My wife and I embarked in this project hoping to bring hope and a smile into the lives of the children battling cancer and of their families. Having two of them, Casey and Chloe, on set and seeing the joy on their faces as we were filming would be already enough to repay us of our endeavors. But we want more. We want to reach out and touch many more.
That’s why from August 28th until September 3rd "The Secret of Joy" will be screened at the Laemmle 7 theater in North Hollywood and the whole Box Office will be donated to the Kids’ Cancer Research Foundation. It’ll be an important first step to achieve our goal.
We would love for it to be successful. We know we can make the difference, touching one person’s heart at the time.

20 minutes earlier: Calleigh (Emily Procter) agrees to meet Delko (Adam Rodriguez) for coffee and then follows him. See there's hardly any trust demonstrated between them. Calleigh freaks out, he's been lying to her and Delko's still working for Asa Rebecca Nevins (Christina Chang). Calleigh demands the truth. He admits he's working on the theft from the lock-up, only cos he was placed on the spot; and half a million dollars worth of heroin is missing. Delko tells Horatio (David Caruso) this is Sully's (Brad Leland) past case. Horatio suspects the bomb could have been for Delko. No one else knows what Delko was working on. Horatio: "She was our friend, let's not forget it." Horatio did have a relationship with her of sorts and as we know, anyone who has a relationship in this show has got to be killed off, or be a suspect. Delko only told Sully about it and no one else.

CBC, a Canadian TV network, surely didn't renew the TV series The Border for a fourth season last year. However, the TV series' first season will premiere in the USA on Ion Television, an American cable network.
The show will premiere on July 8 with two back-to-back episodes starting at 10 Pm.
In this TV series, we follow a squad of the fictitious Immigration Customs Security (Ics), a Canadian federal agency responsible of the security on the border between Canada and the USA. Major Mike Kessler (James McGowan) heads his team and does his best to maintain a clear-eyed decency while responding to the call of duty. He often clashes with agent Bianca Lagarda (Sofia Milos), an agent sent by the American government to work with the Ics.
The show also stars Graham Abbey, Nazneen Contractor, Jonas Chernick, Mark Wilson, Jim Cordington, Catherine Disher, Sarah Gadon and Nigel Bennett.

Calleigh (Emily Procter) hasn't taken a personal day to be with Delko (Adam Rodriguez) as the department lawyer doesn't want them to see each other, whilst they investigate the case from last season. Delko had to be mentioned here as he's not in this episode and was meant to leave, but stuck around. Calleigh sounds so callous when she tells Natalia (Eva Larue) that she did shoot at Delko and she's meant to have feelings for the guy. She was so non-chalant. Probably a line added in from last episode when she said, in the flashback, that she doesn't socialize with her co-workers. That line she crossed, but here makes it appear as if she doesn't mix her work and personal lives. She states, coldly, that Delko was a suspect at an active crime scene. Jesse (Eddie Cibrian) returns in the nick of time to get into the thick of it all.

The Canadian distributor Vsc has sent a hi-res picture of the DVD artwork of The Border's third season. This Canadian espionnage series - which was aired on the public TV network CBC - will come out on DVD on August 10.
Despite the good reviews the shot has gotten, CBC didn't renew The Border for a fourth season.
The show tells the story of the fictional Immigration and Custom Security (Ics). The group is led by Maj. Mike Kessler, a former soldier of the Joint Task Force 2 (Canada's elite army). While Det. Sgt. Layla Hourani (Nazneen Contractor) died in the second season's finale, she'll be replaced by Khalida Massi (Athena Karkanis), a polyglot agent. Other than that, the Ics is under investigation by the Canadian Public Security ministry because of the screw-up that occured during a border operation at the end of season two.

CSI: Miami Season 7 is now available on DVD and includes in its cast: David Caruso, Emily Procter, Eva Larue, Jonathan Togo, Khandi Alexander, Megalyn Echikunwoke, ex Linn, Sofia Milos.
Here’s the short synopsis: Fast-paced crime drama that follows the investigations of a cutting-edge forensics team based in the tropical climes of southern Florida. A spin-off of the hugely popular television series C.S.I. – Crime Scene Investigation, C.S.I. Miami places more emphasis on police work than science–sharing its parent show’s penchant for grisly crime re-enactments–and boasts a flashier cinematographic style that befits its sun-kissed locale. Presented here is the show’s seventh series in its entirety.

Toronto -- The Canadian Broadcasting Corp. on Friday renewed the Newfoundland-based comic drama "Republic of Doyle" for a second season.
The crime series from creator Allan Hawco and Take the Shot Productions features the Newfoundland actor playing the titular role of detective Jake Doyle, who runs a detective agency with his father Malachy, played by Irish actor Sean McGinley.
"Republic of Doyle" seizing the public broadcaster's last 9 p.m. slot will mean the axe for the action drama "The Border" from White Pine Pictures after three seasons. The Sofia Milos and James McGowan-starring drama about an elite Toronto immigration and customs tactical team also airs on Ion Television stateside.
The renewal of "The Republic of Doyle" also means no series pickup for the CBC pilot "Tangled," a one hour action adventure from Shaftesbury Films.

Lucerne, Switzerland -- ABC's fish-out-of-water format "I Survived a Japanese Game Show" was the big winner at the 49th Rose d'Or festival, one of Europe's most prestigious TV honors, taking the Best of 2009 prize as well as the Rose trophy for best reality show.
Accepting his trophies, Tim Crescenti of Small World Ift, which produces and distributes "Japanese" internationally, wondered aloud why he was one of only a few Americans attending this year's Rose d'Or.
"Maybe it's because so many of the shows on air in America now come from here -- from Europe, Asia or South America," Crescenti said. "Maybe Americans are afraid to compete with you."
Crescenti went on to trace the history of the show, which started as a paper format out of Denmark and, outside the U.S., is now on air in several European territories.
Britain and Canada, two territories whose TV industries have taken a beating this past year,...

As MyNetworkTV is pulling out of the original programming business, Ion Television is stepping up.
The network has picked up two Canadian drama series, "The Border" and "The Guard."
Both will make their U.S. debuts on Ion later this year.
"The Border," from Fireworks International, follows members of the Canadian Immigration and Customs Security Unit working with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to secure the border on both sides of the line.
The series, which airs on Canada's Cbc, drew interest from several U.S. broadcast networks, including ABC and CBS, during the writers strike.
"The Guard," from Lionsgate, revolves around the members of a Coast Guard Search and Rescue team.
Ion has acquired all U.S. television, digital media rights, Internet streaming and video-on-demand rights for both shows.

Ex-scientologist: 'Holmes Was Picked For Cruise After Audition Process'
Hollywood star Tom Cruise's marriage to Katie Holmes was set up by the Church of Scientology after a series of fake casting calls for actresses including Jennifer Garner and Jessica Alba failed to deliver a suitable wife, according to sensational new claims by a former Scientologist.
Cruise and Holmes wed in a fairytale ceremony in Italy in 2006 after a whirlwind 20-month romance and have one-year-old daughter Suri together.
But ex-Scientologist Marc Headley - who used to produce promotional films for the controversial religion - claims Holmes was set up with the Mission: Impossible star after he split from Penelope Cruz in 2004 after three years together.
Headley alleges Scientology leader David Miscavige organised an audition process for potential wives disguised as a casting call for a new movie in which Cruise was the leading man.
He tells British tabloid News of the World, "After that (splitting from Cruz), he started complaining to his best buddy David about his luck with girls. So Miscavige assigned a high-ranking official with the order: 'Find a wife for Tom Cruise.'
"The official put out a casting call to female actresses, including Scientologists, saying, 'There's an upcoming Tom Cruise movie you might get a part in. Come for an audition.' But in the end no movie was made. They had to be single, they had to be pretty and in their 20s.
"First they rounded up Scientologist actresses like Erica Christensen, Erica Howard and Sofia Milos. But they were all rejected."
The unnamed official then tried to lure Electra star Garner - who had just started dating Ben Affleck at the time - with the beauty ranked top of the priority list, before Holmes was spotted gushing about Cruise and called to Los Angeles to meet the actor.
Headley adds, "Then... they went for Jennifer Garner, Scarlett Johansson and Jessica Alba, in that order. They came up with the same plan. Jennifer and Jessica didn't bite but Scarlett took the bait and came in for an audition. When she arrived at the audition address and found out it was the Scientology Center in Hollywood she freaked out and didn't do a tape...
"So they worked the audition tape on Katie, got her to L.A. and introduced her to Tom. The moment he meets her, he's enthralled with her and he told Miscavige later, 'I knew immediately she was the one.'"...

'Border' bows big for CBC
TORONTO -- The Canadian Broadcasting Corp. has hit ratings paydirt with "The Border", touted as Canada's answer to "24."
The newest drama from the public broadcaster drew an impressive 710,000 viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research data, when it bowed Monday night against ABC's "Dance Wars: Bruno vs. Carrie Ann" on rival CTV.
"We're thrilled. The one-hour drama genre is a very hard nut to crack in Canada and these numbers are a real indicator of success," said Kirstine Layfield, CBC executive director of network programming.
In a domestic TV arena roughly a tenth the size of the U.S. market, homegrown dramas are considered a hit when they reach 1 million viewers.
"The Border", which stars James McGowan and Sofia Milos as a U.S. Department of Homeland Security agent based in Canada, portrays an elite force of Toronto-based immigration and customs officers battling the threat of terrorism and human trafficking among other challenges along the Canadian-U.S. border.
The CBC got a leg up with its launch of "The Border" when "24," which has traditionally drawn big numbers on rival Global Television, was pulled by Fox from its schedule during the current WGA strike.

Passionada
Seattle International Film Festival
While not exactly setting the marquee on fire with star names, this unabashed romancer from director Dan Ireland -- co-founder of the Seattle International Film Festival, where "Passionada" premiered June 16 as the closing-night event -- goes down smoothly thanks to the trio of lead actors, whose enthusiasm and chemistry help make up for the routine filmmaking. Ireland, who cast Renee Zellweger in her breakout role ("The Whole Wide World"), hits pay dirt again with Sofia Milos ("The Sopranos"), giving the indie project a few legitimate enticements for moviegoers.
"Passionada" is set in the fishing community of New Bedford, Mass., with Portuguese-American widow Celia Amonte (Milos) and her nice-and-naughty daughter Vicky (Emmy Rossum) both coming under the spell -- and vice versa for him -- of luckless gambler Charlie Beck (Jason Isaacs). In the film, coming out after doing war flicks for Ridley Scott and John Woo and before his turns in the new Jackie Chan and Harry Potter movies, Isaacs is credible as a shifty-but-means-well bloke who is drawn to Celia's beguiling persona.
Having lost her husband in an accident seven years earlier, beautiful Celia is not an easy catch to land, but Charlie finds a co-conspirator in dish-in-training Vicky, who wants to learn how to count cards and win at the local casino. They strike a deal, which includes him teaching her the skills that have gotten him in mucho trouble. In his defense, Vicky is irresistible, and Celia is one attractive lady, a singer at a nearby restaurant who radiates femininity despite her broken heart.
Charlie presents himself as a well-off businessman and persuades his yacht-owning friends to help impress Celia. Things are going swimmingly until the truth comes out, of course, and Charlie gets beaten up in a tacked-on confrontation with Russian gamblers, who also threaten Vicky.
Along with the three leads, with Isaacs underplaying effectively against such radiant scene-stealers as Rossum and Milos, there's a trio of veterans capably filling out the principal cast: Theresa Russell and Seymour Cassel as Charlie's best friends and Lupe Ontiveros as Celia's mother-in-law.
