Dag Hammarskjöld, the second Secretary-General of the United Nations and recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, died in 1961. But questions surrounding his tragic passing in a plane crash, and his sexuality, refuse to die down.
“We know who he is, but we don’t know that much about him,” says director Per Fly, now bringing “Hammarskjöld – Fight for Peace” to the International Film Festival Rotterdam. His journals “Markings,” published posthumously, provided a way in.
“There he was, this powerful man, and yet his writings deal with loneliness and sacrifice. There was a fragile poet inside of a politician.”
With Beta Cinema on board, the film was produced by Patrick Ryborn for Unlimited Stories. Variety premieres the trailer here.
According to Fly, Hammarskjöld was also a man who couldn’t afford to love.

Fans have been waiting for the TV adaptation of Anansi Boys – Neil Gaiman’s 2005 fantasy novel about the two sons of the spider-god Anansi – for a long, long time.
Anticipation for Anansi Boys predates The Sandman, Good Omens and even American Gods when it comes to Neil Gaiman TV series. It was first reported that an adaptation was in the works back in 2014, but this project never came to be (parts were eventually incorporated into American Gods), so fans were excited to discover an Amazon Prime Video miniseries was in production back in 2020.
Three years later, we can almost taste it, so in anticipation here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming Anansi Boys:

Starz’s newest period drama miniseries Dangerous Liaisons is the cure for anyone who found Lady Whistledown’s revelations in Bridgerton too tame. These affairs also expose class and gender conflicts in a world even more cutthroat than the Ton.

Starz has renewed its “Dangerous Liaisons” series for a second season before the first has premiered.
The series, described as a “prelude” to the novel of the same name by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos, will officially debut on Nov. 6 on the Starz linear network, the Starz app, and all Starz streaming and on-demand platforms. It will be available on Lionsgate across Europe, Latin America, and Japan. Season 2 will begin production in Prague in early 2023.
“‘Dangerous Liaisons’ is addictive, provocative and beautifully rendered,” said Kathryn Busby, president of original programming at Starz. “This prelude to the famed 18th century novel illuminates pre-revolution Paris at its most decadent. Starz has ordered a second season of “Dangerous Liaisons,” days ahead of its series premiere on Nov. 6.
Alice Englert (“The Power Of The Dog”) and Nicholas Denton (“Glitch”) play literary lovers-slash-enemies Marquise de Merteuil and Vicomte de Valmont. The series also stars Kosar Ali, Carice van Houten, Hilton Pelser, Fisayo Akinade, Michael McElhatton, Nathanael Saleh, Colette Dalal Tchantcho, Hakeem Kae-Kazim, Tom Wlaschiha, and Paloma Faith.
Season 2 is expected to begin shooting in early 2023 in Prague, Czech Republic.

Starz is already smitten with its Marquise de Merteuil and the Vicomte de Valmont: The network has renewed Dangerous Liaisons for a second season, ahead of its November debut.
“Dangerous Liaisons is addictive, provocative and beautifully rendered,” said Kathryn Busby, President, Original Programming at Starz. “This prelude to the famed 18th century novel illuminates pre-revolution Paris at its most decadent. We are confident that by the end of season one viewers will be craving more scheming and seduction.”
The drama stars Alice Englert as the Marquise de Merteuil and Nicholas Denton as Vicomte de Valmont. It focuses on the origin story of the two iconic characters when they met on the eve of the revolution in Paris. The series also stars Kosar Ali, Carice Van Houten, Hilton Pelser, Fisayo Akinade, Michael McElhatton, Nathanael Saleh, Colette Dalal Tchantcho, Hakeem Kae-Kazim and Tom Wlaschiha.

"Dangerous Liaisons" is getting a television adaptation on Starz, the network behind "Outlander" and "American Gods." The 1782 French epistolary novel from Pierre Choderlos de Laclos is becoming an eight-episode series, which will debut on November 6, 2022. The book has seen multiple adaptations over the years, including the three-time Academy Award-winning 1989 film starring John Malkovich and Glenn Close. Then there's "Cruel Intentions," the 1999 modern adaptation which reimagines the classic story against the backdrop of wealthy high school teenagers in New York City.
The critically-acclaimed story will now head to television and the focus will be on the origin story of the novel's characters. The Starz series will illustrate how Marquise de Merteuil (Alice Englert) and the Vicomte de Valmont (Nicholas Denton) met as passionate young lovers in Paris and will represent the extravagance of the French aristocracy ahead of the French revolution. From this trailer, I was almost expecting it to say the scam is "part of the process" and even if it's fake, at least it helps her somehow. Maybe?
