Kathleen Detoro created the costumes and color palettes for Breaking Bad's pilot and subsequent four seasons. Working with creator Vince Gilligan, she designed outside-the-box styles and silhouettes that created a fan following. Kathleen's' Breaking Bad costumes are on display at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History. She designed "Blood and Oil" with the wonderfully fashion savvy Don Johnson. Working with producer /director James Mangold & producer Cathy Konrad she brought to life Nicholas Pileggi's "Vegas" CBS period series with Dennis Quaid ,Michael Chiklis & Carrie-Anne Moss circa 1950'/60. Her films include the action thriller Hard Rain with Morgan Freeman & Christian Slater. Kathleen was fortunate to design multiple series for producer Jerry Bruckheimer ( whom she credits with "encouraging design excellence"). Kathleen designed Calista Flockharts' costumes for Ally McBeal. She also was honored to work with Wes Craven on the horror classic "Scream 2": bringing a more fashion savvy look to the franchise.
She has been nominated for two Costume Design Guild Awards and is known for her strong use of color, light ,texture and silhouette with her portfolio spanning many genres.
Born and raised in Connecticut, Detoro graduated from the Pratt Institute and attended the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute for special studies. Her initial career as a fashion designer in New York changed when legendary director Robert Wise asked her to design costumes for his film Rooftops, produced by Taylor Hackford. Detoro's commercial work includes multiple spots with Academy Award nominated DP /director, Mikael Salomon, as well as multiple Super Bowl commercials.
