Matlock won’t be airing for the next two weeks, and fans might be wondering why.
The Kathy Bates-led TV show quickly became a fan favorite after debuting earlier this fall on CBS.
However, it’ll be a bit before you can catch the seventh episode in season 1. So, why is the television series taking a two week hiatus?
Keep reading to find out more…
Tonight (November 21), Matlock will not be airing in its usual 9 pm timeslot. Instead, this week, CBS is airing a TV movie, Nugget is Dead? A Christmas Story as part of some holiday programming. Then next week (November 28), the show won’t air a new episode as it’s Thanksgiving.
Season 1, episode 7 will return on Thursday (December 5) with an all new episode titled “Belly of the Beast.”

Kathy Bates stars in the new reboot of Matlock on CBS, which has been such a success that it is already returning for a second season.
As Monsters and Critics have reported, the new Matlock show is a bit different from the original with Andy Griffith, and those differences are exciting to see.
Kathy Bates stars as lawyer Madeline Matlock, much like the original Ben Matlock, but her character is shrouded in mystery.
Kathy’s reasons for working in a specific law firm stem from good intentions revealed at the end of Season 1, Episode 1, and explained in the next few episodes.
Just as fans dig in to see what happens next, CBS has pulled Matlock from airing new episodes this week and next.
Fans cannot immediately see the next new episode of Matlock: Belly of the Beast, Season 1, Episode 7, but the wait will only build up anticipation for the following exciting developments.

If you’re anything like this TV Fanatic, you were blown away by the first half of the premiere season of Matlock. To be fair, we had high expectations — the show just exceeded them.
It’s no wonder Kathy Bates is an Oscar and Emmy-winning actress. Can you imagine how excited the executives at CBS must’ve been when they landed a star as talented and prestigious as Miss Bates?
Since the start, Matlock has consistently kept viewers on their toes with twists and turns in every episode. The show is a buffet of quality writing and impressive acting skills.
(Sonja Flemming/CBS)
This Report Card gave me a run for my money because it was hard to pick the “best” and “worst.” However, after careful consideration, I think we can all agree with the results.

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for Matlock Season 1.] Matlock stunned viewers with its last-minute twist in the series premiere, but audiences then had to wait a few weeks to find out what happens next. The new Kathy Bates procedural wouldn’t return with new episodes until October and at a new time on CBS after the September 22 premiere. Now, the show is on a short break again. We break down the release schedule below. Matlock stars Bates as the titular character, Madeline “Matty” Matlock, which as it turns out isn’t her real name at all. The Matlock persona is a disguise Matty has adopted as part of an elaborate plan to unearth evidence of corruption at the prestigious Jacobson Moore law firm. Matty is really Matty Kingston, and she’s neither broke nor hated by the grandson she’s raising like she told her new colleagues at the firm in the first episode. The twist...

Chuck Lorre is best known for his sitcoms like The Big Bang Theory, Two and a Half Men, Mom, and The Kominsky Method. Known as the king of sitcoms, Lorre seemed to have cracked the code when it came to multi-cam comedies, with shows like Tbbt becoming staples of pop culture.
However, he seemed to have misfired with Netflix’s Disjointed. The Kathy Bates starrer followed a marijuana advocate and the employees in her cannabis store. While the reviews were middling at best, the show was known for its edgy humor, with one episode talking about the Illuminati conspiracy. It was canceled after one season.

“American Horror Story” is one of FX’s most successful series to date, airing for 12 cycles (and 132 episodes) since 2011 and winning 17 Emmys along the way. In January 2020, the cable network made the bold decision to renew Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk‘s horror anthology series for three more installments — Season 11, Season 12, and Season 13. That ensures the flagship show will be on our TV screens through at least the year 2025. Scary good!
Here’s everything to know so far about “American Horror Story” Season 13. Bookmark this page as we’ll be updating it whenever new information is revealed, including the theme, cast, release date, filming, episode count, and more.

Maybe it was the extra gestational periods for some shows due to strike-related delays, maybe it is the newfound comfort-food appeal of broadcast fare this season that has middle schoolers binging shows like High Potential, but the new 2024-25 network scripted series have fared pretty well, with no outright flops among them.
Of course, some shows have done better than others — we’ve had our first Season 2 renewal and back orders this fall, all courtesy of CBS. Here is a rundown of the new fall 2024 live-action scripted series with details about how many episodes each will produce this season, news on Happy’s Place and Lopez vs Lopez additional script orders as well as explanation why Matlock got a Season 2 renewal and not a back order like the other freshman CBS series and why one of the biggest new series of the season, ABC’s High Potential, won’t produce more than 13 episodes.

The two Creep movies by Patrick Brice relied on a very simple premise. The titular serial killer would lure a struggling videographer to a secluded place under the guise of making some kind of documentary on him. I think that Josef is his real name because it was somewhat confirmed by his sister, Angela. But he also goes by Bill, Peachfuzz (which is the alter-ego when he dons his favorite wolf mask), Aaron, and whatever else pops into his mind while toying with his prey. In the 2014 film, he stalked and killed a guy called Aaron, and in the 2017 film, he fell in love with his victim, Sara, and almost stabbed her to death, but he failed and she hit him on the head with a shovel. Now, I assumed that Josef died in that film and the guy who was stalking Sara after that incident was a copycat killer,...

With a slew of excellent, critically acclaimed horror films in 2024, could awards bodies finally give them more consideration? A few thoughts.
Toni Collette in Hereditary. Jack Nicholson in The Shining. Elisabeth Moss in The Invisible Man. Mia Goth in Pearl. Christian Bale in American Psycho. Florence Pugh in Midsommar.
Horror films have long produced some fine, memorable performances, but they rarely tend to break through into the awards conversation. Or even if they’re talked about, they’re usually doomed to receive no love from the awards bodies themselves.
Why? Great question, and one that probably doesn’t have a simple answer. In general, horror films have been seen as trashy, low-brow forms of entertainment despite their long history of tackling social issues amid all the blood and guts. It’s only recently, with the rise of so-called “elevated horror” – anyone else hate that term? – that the genre’s reputation has started to slowly change.

This was hands down one of the funniest episodes of Elsbeth yet. How the writers continue to keep things fresh and exciting is a mystery to me, but we are here for it.
“Elsbeth Flips The Bird” was a nonstop roller coaster ride of the campiest and most insane plotting of the series so far. And we also got to see the return of another Season 1 vet.
However, the most crucial thing that Elsbeth Season 2 Episode 5 brought to life was the criminal cost of avocados. How else could the show reference something like “The Avocado Cartel.”
(Michael Parmelee/CBS)
I was not expecting that level of camp. However, the price of that green gold has skyrocketed, and something needs to be done.
Best of all, we finally received more info on the high-profile case Elsbeth is caught up in.

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for Matlock Season 1 Episode 6, “Sixteen Steps.”] Skye P. Marshall‘s Olympia is a champion of the marginalized in CBS‘ Matlock. Even when a case takes many years and several attempts to win justice for her clients, she’s always working towards that goal. Episode 6 of the already-renewed procedural’s first season was a major milestone for Marshall’s character both in the courtroom and out, as flashbacks revealed the case and personal circumstances that put so much stress on Olympia and Julian’s (Jason Ritter) marriage, she asked for a divorce. Things are much better between the couple in the present timeline, and in fact, they look primed for a possible reunion. But the mystery about who buried those opioid documents is still looming. Showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman previously said there’s no twist with Matty’s (Kathy Bates) suspects; either Julian Sr. (Beau Bridges), Julian Jr., or Olympia is guilty.

Actress Skye P. Marshall tapped into a very personal loss as Matlock‘s Olympia this week represented clients who’d endured an unspeakable tragedy.
In the CBS freshman’s Nov. 14 episode, titled “Sixteen Steps,” Olympia Lawrence fought on behalf of two moms whose infant son died after ingesting contaminated baby formula. When the more emotionally available of the moms had to bow out of testifying (due to concerns about the stress affecting her new pregnancy), Olympia grappled with putting the more stoic mother on the stand — because it would mean compelling her to revisit that dark, dark place where she “can’t function,...

Exclusive: Spain’s Movistar Plus has gone shopping at Sony Pictures Television.
The streamer has acquired medical drama Doc, British crime drama Dope Girls, police thriller Long Bright River, the Jacob Elordi-starring Narrow Road to the Deep North and Outlander prequel Outlander: Blood of My Blood.
Each show will premiere in Spain in 2025, with launch date due to be announced in due course. They were all introduced to buyers at May’s LA Screenings, where they began to create buzz.

Kathy Bates is making a massive comeback with her career in her latest role as Madeline Matlock in the new show Matlock.
The new series is a fan favorite and was renewed for Season 2 after just two episodes. Although Kathy was scared at first, she is coming into her own with the role.
Kathy shared that this would be her last role, and she was ready to retire before being offered this new role with a twist. She seems to love the acting, and hopefully, the show will last for years.
The original Matlock featured Andy Griffith as an older lawyer who solves cases each week while dispensing wisdom to everyone, so there are some differences, as Monsters and Critics has reported.

It wouldn’t be an official Saturday Night Live season without disgruntled comedians complaining that the nearly 50-year-show ripped off their jokes. Sometimes, the accusations are eye-rolling — in October, a New York stand-up complained that Andrew Dismukes’ “Hey Soul Sister” sketch copied his bit. But there’s not much to the allegation — both simply make fun of Train’s cringe song. Get in line. People have been ripping that song for years.
The Whitest Kids U' Know, the 2000s sketch comedy group with a cult hit on IFC, might have a more credible claim to comedy idea theft after the recent John Mulaney episode. The Matlock writers just won’t give Kathy Bate’s Madeline a break. They’re going to end up giving that sweet old lady a heart attack before she has a chance to get justice for her daughter.

By now, many know the truth about CBS’ reboot of Matlock as the network is detailing it in promos. At first, the show looked to be a spin on the 1980s NBC series starring Andy Griffith as Ben Matlock, a defense attorney whose age hid his sharp mind and skills in exonerating clients.
The new CBS series stars Oscar winner Kathy Bates as Madeline “Matty” Matlock, who jokes about having the same name as the show. A retiree, Matty returns to the law firm of Jacobson Moore, claiming she needs work as her terrible husband died and she has to raise her grandson. She proves herself capable of using her wiles and people not noticing her to get information and lands a job at the firm.
However, the first episode reveals the truth: Matty is Madeline Kingston,...

Paramount Global’s streaming division posted a second straight quarter of profit, boosted in part by net customer additions to its direct-to-consumer streaming service Paramount Plus during the company’s third financial quarter (Q3) of the year.
On Friday, Paramount revealed its Paramount Plus business added 4 million global subscribers during the three-month period that ended September 30, bringing the total customer count to just over 72 million. It reversed a decline in subscribers that was logged during the prior quarter, when Paramount said its customer base dipped to 68 million, a loss of 2 million subscribers.

Skye P. Marshall found out on her birthday that Matlock was renewed for a second season, and she heard it straight from Kathy Bates as a birthday present. The actor tells TV Insider that she spilled the renewal beans to a crowd of senior women outside of a Broadway theater in Manhattan out of sheer excitement during this video call with Bates and showrunner/creator Jennie Snyder Urman. When she screamed the news, the women cheered and said, “I love Matlock!” Marshall reveals. Luckily, the news was announced to the world the very next day, and those women turned out to be trustworthy protectors of spoilers. Marshall shares the full story of how she learned about Matlock‘s “incredible” renewal with TV Insider. Matlock‘s Season 2 pickup was announced on October 22. Only two episodes had aired on CBS by then, leaving the cast and creators stunned and delighted by the early renewal,...

While Matlock is a series known at this point for pulling at the heartstrings, Matlock Season 1 Episode 5 had the waterworks on full blast. There were happy tears, sad tears, and even some confused tears.
Despite so many heartwarming and wrenching moments, love seems to be in the air. Some viewers may finally get their wish for Sarah to loosen up.
As great as that all is, there’s still the matter of Matlock’s plan to take down Jacobs & Moore, and Madeline Kingston just made great strides in her strategy.
(Robert Voets/CBS)
With all the investigation and clue searching, you’d think Olympia would pick up on what’s right in front of her face. I mean that literally because Julian appears to be around every corner.
Mount Olympia Might Be Too High And Mighty To See What’s Right In Front Of Her
We’ll get to the case in a moment.

It’s an exciting day for NCIS: Origins fans. CBS has given the new drama an extended greenlight during its first season.
CBS originally ordered 13 episodes of NCIS: Origins, giving the drama a chance to succeed on Monday nights.
Having NCIS as a lead-in and working with familiar characters (like Young Gibbs and Young Mike Franks) has worked well.
The new show from the NCIS Universe is based in 1991, years before Mark Harmon began playing Gibbs on NCIS.
Sean Harmon’s idea was to do a prequel show, and he serves as an Executive Producer while his dad (Mark) narrates.
Sean played Young Gibbs during flashbacks on NCIS, but Austin Stowell now portrays the younger Leroy Jethro Gibbs on Origins.

CBS announced that NCIS: Origins has now received a full-season order.
CBS has increased its order from 13 to 18 episodes, picking up additional content for this spring.

NCIS: Origins takes us right into the heart of Gibbs’ beginnings, set in the ‘90s, with Austin Stowell stepping in as the young Leroy Jethro Gibbs.

“NCIS: Origins” and “Poppa’s House” just got a boost of confidence with full season orders at CBS. The “NCIS” prequel spinoff and the Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr.-led sitcom, which both air Monday nights, have upped their first seasons from 13 to 18 episodes each.

After months in limbo, Hurry Up Tomorrow – a loose remake of 1990’s Misery – has finally found a studio distributor in the form of Lionsgate.
In January, we covered a report which revealed that a ‘loose remake’ of Misery has been shot, featuring an ensemble cast and reimagining the 1990 horror thriller for the modern world, with its ever-growing fascination for celebrity culture. As such, the rather unhealthy relationship dynamic so perfectly portrayed by Kathy Bates and James Caan in the original film (adapted from the Stephen King novel) has been changed. The Caan character, originally named Paul Sheldon, is no longer a famous writer, but rather a famous singer.
Whereas the original story saw a crazed fan keeps her favourite writer hostage, forcing him to rewrite his stories to suit her tastes, this time it looks as though it will be lyrics and melodies getting rewritten instead. Music star The Weeknd...

Sheldon and Amy’s wedding on The Big Bang Theory stole the show ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
The big day finally arrived on The Big Bang Theory! Fans had been waiting, and it was a whirlwind of excitement when Amy and Sheldon tied the knot. Ah, the old Matlock who isn’t really Matlock trick. Who could have possibly seen that coming? After all, the series is called “Matlock.” There’s nothing like drawing in a crowd with a distinguished name only to reveal that no such name exists.
Fortunately, the new Matlock isn’t half bad if you can mentally finagle your way around and through a few plot twists here and there. Gone are the days of simplicity, with intriguing, week-by-week courtroom dramas.
But, despite the new look, vibe, and Kathy Bates, there are some legitimate questions worth asking. This is especially true of the entire premise of that show.

Complexity for the sake of complexity isn’t always as complex as it seems. Does that make sense? Or, maybe it’s not such a big deal after all. For those not in the know (spoiler alert!), “Madeline Matlock” is not really Matlock,...

My goodness, there are some shady individuals in the viper’s nest on Matlock Season 1 Episode 4. I know their “web of lies” is where lawyers get their mail, but this episode was downright dirty.
As far as cases of the week, the series has done a great job of delivering slam dunks at the end of every episode. However, we were living in a fool’s paradise, thinking it would be happy endings till the end of time.
Due to this hour of Matlock, there’s a good chance many viewers will never hear the words “Texas Two-Step” the same again.

The case in question revolved around a widower who was suing his building due to the wrongful death of his late wife caused by Legionella. If you read the Matlock Season 1 Episode 4 Spoilers, that wasn’t news to you.

Every year, there are outstanding performances that horror fans have come to accept probably won’t get the awards recognition they deserve due to their genre. Obviously, there are notable exceptions; but for every Kathy Bates in “Misery,” there’s Toni Collette in “Hereditary.”
It’s unfortunate that horror isn’t held in higher esteem, as it’s genuinely one of the hardest to get right. It’s a tricky balance, and it can easily go awry. One false move and your over-the-top turns will be remembered for all the wrong reasons. This year, in particular, has been great not only for genre films but also for the actors in them. In a just world, here are some of this year’s actors who would be recognized by Oscar voters.
Hugh Grant, “Heretic”
Perhaps the strongest shot at breaking into the race, the always reliable Grant is perfectly cast as Mr.

These days, fans are familiar with seeing reboots of successful old series. Even shows that fans hold sacred have been plucked from the dusty shadows to see new life.
The Matlock approach turned out to be a very different way of handling a series that has been done before — a show that we might file under legendary status.
Understandably, most fans were skeptical, maybe even protective, when they heard the news that CBS was rebooting a classic.

Is nothing sacred?
In the last decade, we’ve seen more reboots, spinoffs, and book-to-film adaptations than unique original works. Where did the creativity go?
Most reboots don’t fare well. Look at Magnum, P.I., Hawaii Five-o, Saved by the Bell, and the similarly mystery-themed Perry Mason.

Matlock is back in a brand new show, but it would not be the breakout hit it is without the indomitable Kathy Bates in the lead.
As Monsters and Critics have reported, Matlock is such a hit that it is renewed for Season 2, and Kathy has much to do with its success.
One of Matlock’s premises is that older women are invisible, and that is precisely how Kathy’s character, Madeline Matlock, operates so well as a lawyer on the show.
In an interview with Newsweek, Kathy shared that she relates to her character in many ways and describes how they fit in together: “So many of the things that Matty goes through, I’ve been through, or I’m thinking about, it’s just been absolutely incredible.”
Playing an older lawyer may seem easy for Kathy since she is excellent in any role, from Molly Brown in Titanic to Annie Wilkes in Misery,...
