The Best of Screen Gems/Columbia Pictures/Sony Pictures Television
In the early days of television, it was practically verboten for a major studio to get into television production. Screen Gems, once the animation side of Columbia Pictures (1940-1946) was revived in 1948 to supply product to the growing television industry. Thus, Columbia became the first major to enter the new medium of television broadcasting. After many years of success it became Columbia Pictures Television on 6 May 1974 until Sony (Columbia's present owner) renamed the operation Sony Pictures Television 16 September 2002. The following are the best of the original studio productions (and early Hanna-Barbera, Castle Rock & TriStar product is included).
